Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Finally bought my 8lb sledge at good ol' Home Depot this evening. So now I just have to get started using it.
I must admit I feel weird about it...a little sheepish sort of...slightly embarassed..not sure. I think just 'cause it's so unusual.
Wish me luck.

The embarrassment goes away when you realize that you can now strangle a bull with your bare hands
Good luck! And easy into it slowly -- it's much harder than it seems. And you won't fully feel it till the next day.

Reinhard...I had to laugh out loud at the 'strangle a bull with your bare hands' comment
Can't you just see someone talking to a personal trainer or such and when asked what their fitness goal is they reply...."I want to be able to strangle a bull with my bare hands"... too funny!
Thanks for the encouragment. I'm going to start tonight, as I'll be skipping a walk to give my body time to recover from yesterday. I have bad feet, knees and hips, so I have to be careful to not overdue it or I'll end up injured and quit.
