Online Timer!

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Online Timer!

http://www.online-stopwatch.com/

Found this looking for software timers. I could write my own, but screw that. I workout in my room, although I use resistance bands vs. a shovelglove...

I just tried online-stopwatch.com and it does have an audible alert.

Browser issues maybe? I'm running OS X.

I have to say, this (physical) timer is fantastic.

VERY intuitive to use, and the three kinds of alerts (audible, visual, vibrate) are all quite useful for different situations -- and endlessly entertaining for small children. Not a big investment for a well designed single purpose device.

Now if only I could figure out what my 14 month old did with it.... :-)

Another possibility: If you have a cell phone, you might check it to see if it has a timer. I discovered that my phone has one, and it's what I've been using for my shugging. Assuming my phone is set to the right profile (i.e., not "Silent" :) ), when the timer hits 0, the phone's screen lights up, it plays the alarm sound, *and* it vibrates.

I've been propping my phone up on my desk so that I can see the screen light up from the corner of my eye while shugging. I'm hesitant to put it in my pocket, because even with a sweater wrapped around the end of my sledge, I don't think my phone would take kindly to a hit.

I use the timer function on my wristwatch. Most digital watches have them.
