One Month Progress

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

One Month Progress

Post by Easy_Rider » Fri Feb 27, 2009 12:59 am

I just wanted to say hello and thank you for the great information on the site. I have been doing shovelglove for one month now and have started to get pretty good results. For starters I'm not really overweight so my primary goal is fitness and strength not weight loss. Having said that I started at 194lbs (I'm 6'4'') and am now at 188lbs. I have been loosely following No-S and I must admit running a couple nights a week. I know running is heresy on this site but I think I read a post where Reinhard said he does "degraded beast". I'd rather run than wallow on the ground.

Anyway shugging is what really got me going. Several years ago I was in very good shape from playing soccer. My fitness has slowly degraded since then. Too much crappy food, drinking, and laying about. Now one month in; my gut is shrinking, my posture is better, I feel stronger, I am starting to see growth in my arms, I lost 6lbs, I have more energy, and my cardiovascular fitness is much better. I really agree with the concept of the daily routine adding to my reserve of will power. I didn't intend to do any running when I started a month ago but I was getting so pumped up by how good I felt from the shugging that it just happened organically. The same goes for improving my diet. Also, I'm getting back to old hobbies I enjoy like playing basketball.

Here's the routine I do currently (each move Right and Left):

Shovel Coal x 25
Churn Butter x 20
Chop Wood x 20
Pull Lever x 10
Drive Post x 20
Hoist Sack x 10

Cycle through twice

Also, I love saying no thanks to the conventional wisdom of you must pay money and dress weird to get in shape. Thanks again.

Congratulations and thanks for letting us know!

I've actually been jogging myself once a week for the last year and change. :-)
