Hi all,
I'm new to SG, although I read about it several months back. It was actually the cost of getting a sledgehammer that kept me from doing it...I just couldn't justify buying a tool that I didn't immediately need to do some work around the house.
Fast forward to a week ago, when I had been on deployment with the Navy for two months and was starting to gain weight. The ship has a couple cardio rooms and a weight room, but I had already done that and gotten soooooo bored with it. Who wants to run for 30 minutes just to "stay in shape"? Not I!
So, remembering about Shovelgloving, I decided I would make this work. Fortunately, I had recently found a spare sledgehammer onboard the ship - they're used for firefighting and damage control. I adopted it, brushed off a heavy layer of dust, and found a convenient place to do my 14 minutes of SGing.
I currently work out either in the helicopter hangar or on the flight deck of my guided missile cruiser ship. I admit, I get a kick out of the pilots and aviation mechanics whose eyes bug out a bit when I walk by their precious helicopters with a 10-pound sledgie in my hands. They, in turn, get a kick out of the weird guy who mimes useful movements.
I've seen a great increase in my willingness and desire to work out. I want great results, but I am currently working on just building up my willpower with respect to the workout habit.
Thanks so much, Reinhard, for your Everyday Systems - the No S Diet is currently helping me wean myself from a sugar addiction, and I plan to Urban Ranger darn near everywhere when I get ashore in several months.
Navy Shugger
Sean,
That is awesome: Shovelglove on the deck of a guided missile cruise ship. I wish I could see that. We've had some good public shugging reported here, but I think this takes the prize. Thank YOU!
And let us know if you make any converts -- I can see it already: Shovelglove as the unofficial workout of the United States Navy.
