Just starting out

Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

Just starting out

Hi everyone,

Found this via lifehacker (though my soon-to-be brother-in-law had told me about it months ago and I forgot) and decided to give it a twirl.

I've been doing daily crunches, push-ups, and curls and such for several months now to great success - only to be completely bored and turned off by the routine. I was also concerned about not being able to work out my entire body in the limited time I had in the morning.

Shovelglove appealed to me because it seemed to hit my entire upper body (I bike to work so my legs seem pretty set) as well as promote coordination. It also seemed like a lot of fun, cheap(er than a gym membership), and the author was funny. :)

Today is my 3rd day doing this and I am definitely feeling it. I thought it'd be a bit of a breeze having curled much heavier weights but definitely not! I'm loving it and can easily see myself turning this into a life-long habit.

I even got my fiancee doing it! We can make fun of each other on equal footing now :)

Welcome!

You're beyond me -- I still haven't convinced my wife to do it, though she does do the 14 minutes (yoga) with me while I shug.

Thanks! I think she enjoys the imaginative "hitting people" aspect of it. Heh.
