Take a sledgehammer and wrap an old sweater around it. This is your "shovelglove." Every week day morning, set a timer for 14 minutes. Use the shovelglove to perform shoveling, butter churning, and wood chopping motions until the timer goes off. Stop. Rest on weekends and holidays. Baffled? Intrigued? Charmed? Discuss here.

I recently saw an article on the New York Times website which I thought might interest shovelglovers. Essentially, they've found that short bursts of high intensity exercise can benefit heart health just as much as endurance training (e.g., 40 - 60 minutes on an exercise bike, all week - yuck!)
The article can be read
here.
I don't know about others, but I'd certainly say that for me, shovelgloving is a high intensity workout. My heart pounds during 75% or so of the workout.

Yeah, I think I remember that from the Science Times podcast. That's the big difference with shovelglove, we aren't taking a couple of minutes rest between sets and allowing our heart rate can go back down.

That's certainly how it is with me, 6+ years into it.
Sure, I'm stronger/fitter now. But enthusiasm fills the gaps and the routine as a whole feels as physically demanding (in a good way) as it ever did.
