Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

I didn’t eat as clean as I’d like but as today is Sunday, and I’m getting my period soon, it’s still a pass.
B - steamed cod, broccoli, squash, a small avocado
L - a small gluten free veggie pizza from dominoes with ranch dressing
D - shrimp, squash, leftover ranch dressing (lol)
A coffee with cream, a kombucha.
Still technically a green day but probably too many calories. Slow and steady wins the race.

Another green day. I had two larger meals because I didn’t have time for my second meal at work today.
L - mixed greens, deli turkey, roasted red pepper, radish, two boiled eggs and salad dressing
D - roast chicken breast, squash, broccoli, mushroom, red pepper, black olives, soy sauce and quite a bit of butter
Coffee with cream and a kombucha

Forgot to post yesterday.
B - veggies, mushrooms, deli ham and a little chicken with soy sauce
L - granola and yogurt, puffed quinoa, raspberries and chocolate chips (kinda sweet but I don’t do a no-sweets rule, just three meals)
D - broccoli, chicken, squash, butter
Coffee with cream and a kombucha

Yesterday went well. I had a “sweet” for lunch but I don’t have that rule (as long as I don’t become silly with it).
B - a huge helping of squash soup and two hard boiled eggs
L - a cookie from my work (it was worth it, i work at a bakery and we make the BEST cookies)
D - big salad with poached salmon, blackberries, tomatoes and dressing
Was tempted to eat my boyfriend’s dinner leftovers but did not! Another green day.

My first Fail! Had to happen sometime, I guess. Had been having CRAZY chocolate cravings the last week (it’s my period week). Had three healthy meals today and then finally gave in and had two big pieces of chocolate cheesecake from a local franchise restaurant.
I haven’t been taking “N” days. I had hoped I could just get through on three meals a day forever. As long as I don’t have too many “unplanned” splurges per month, I think I’ll continue to make progress.
Onward and upward!

I think this is something I need to get better at. It’s very difficult for my mind to “enjoy” a treat, when I know it’s not good for me or my goals. Sure it gives me pleasure, but only until the food is done, then it’s regret. I know this is unhealthy but I know I should just plain not be eating this stuff.
Yesterday and today are “S” days for me. Yesterday I had two meals, some cookies in between and fruit for a snack. Today I’m going on a wine tasting/snack outing with my co-workers, and tomorrow is braces, so I assume I’ll be eating mostly soft foods. Back on the wagon on Monday, I’ll do my best.

It is my belief that this sort of conflict feeds into the cycle of overdoing & then restricting and strong emotions like guilt and regret reinforce these brain pathways and help sabotage our efforts. I also believe that one of the tasks we need to accomplish in our mission to be moderate eaters is to find some sane way of dealing with these problematic foods. All the best with your efforts.

Zenviolet, when it becomes really clear that certain foods are just not satisfying, I hope from a physical standpoint more than some kind of moral stance, I think it's the right time to get over the hump of letting those foods go so you can skip the dilemma aspect. I don't know how old you are or how egregious your habits may have been, but sometimes if I need a bit of an excuse-boost, I just say I've had my quota this lifetime; I had decades to get it in, more than most humans in history in a few lifetimes! but I really don't feel like I'm giving up anything with sweets. It may sound torturous, but sometimes when I'm at an event where something I really used to like is served, just remembering some of the rush of the experience of it before will be enough of both pleasure and the sense that I don't want to start that engine again. Like remembering an old boyfriend who was fun but would not have made a good match.
