The Daily Dandelion

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Hi Dandy - I just stopped by to do a quick check-in myself, after many months of absence! Good to hear that you’re doing well. Congratulations on the ‘little guy’’s graduation! Mine went to college, didn’t like it and came home! She’s working though, so all’s good. Keep up the moderation! 👍

I guess it's my yearly attempt at sanity. At least with eating/weight/self.This past year has not been kind to me. It's been a parade of illness, injury and death. Literally.

I long for simplicity.

I certainly picked the right name for myself. You start thinking I’m gone, and I just pop up again.
I’ve been kinda NoSing unofficially for a while, so thought it would be good to check in. Maybe make it a bit less unofficial. For some reason it’s easier these days than it used to be. ( I hope I didn’t just jinx it)

Since my last post, my weight seems totally uncontrollable. It has been steadily increasing. Slowly, but definitely. It’s very discouraging.

Of course, stress plays a huge part, I’m sure. But also health issues are starting to play an ever increasing part.

I’m hoping vanilla basics will help set me back on the right track.

I'm sorry you're dealing with that! That had to be so disconcerting. I hope Vanilla No S can help!)

Thanks, Sammy. I don’t feel like I’m being all that excessive, but I’m up even more today.
Focusing on NoSes for today and not dwelling on other things.

You've got this! For me, No S on its own was not enough to get me to lose (I'm very short). So I had to add 3 mods. So far, my mods are what's helping me lose, I think, whereas No S keeps me sane, if that makes sense.

There may be mods in my future - but I’m trying to implement one thing at a time. I tend to try to do everything all at once all the time and the wheels fall off.

Right now just the ‘no snacks’ part is quite illuminating. I am realizing how much of my eating was habit/ boredom? /Stress? Something to deal with, anyway.

I totally get it. I've been slowly putting in new habits over the past month and a half and it goes so much better if they're slowly implemented. I get it! And omg, my snacking was OUT OF CONTROL. Like seriously. As was my sweets consumptions. It's why I needed my particular mods. And because I'm so short, I knew I needed low calorie density stuff to crowd out more calorie dense stuff.

Today is my third day. I've made it through two days - I know that's nothing - but it's also not nothing. It's two days more than before.

What are your mods?

Every little bit is a step forward in the right direction!!

Here are my mods - I have 3:

1) No sugar or snacks or seconds unless I'm with other people (family, friends, etc.)
2) No fast food unless I am with at least 1 other adult
3) When at home, I eat by the Harvard Healthy plate if at all possible

I have struggled since I was 13 with orthorexia and then in 2019, I developed Binge Eating Disorder at age 31. I was thin my entire life up until 2019 when I became obese and I continued to weight cycle and balloon up in weight. I'm now 37 and I am FINALLY figuring out what my exact problems are. I am in solid recovery now and am doing SO much better, losing weight, and feeling more like a human being again.

I have a similar history - starting when I was in high school. And in the intervening 50 years, If there is a food issue out there I haven't had at some point, I don't know what it is.

At this point, I'm so tired of it all.

Another successful day. Well, sort of. My dinner was a bit large, but I stuck to three plates, so for me that’s a win. My main goal right now is to stop the mindless eating. Normally, when it’s my break time, I automatically pick up something to eat. Tough call at work, eat something. Another 140 or so people get laid off, eat several somethings.

On the plus side, pi day is an ‘S’ day, so I’m already planning what pie to make. 😁

That is so fun! Pie is something we rarely have, but maybe we need to plan something!!
