Writer110's Vanilla No S Daily Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Writer110's Vanilla No S Daily Check-in

Post by Writer110 » Mon Mar 08, 2010 4:29 am

I have started and stopped No S so many times because I keep getting discouraged that I can't do it "perfectly." So then my thoughts start getting wacky and I start modifying or adding in diet rules and then I just give up.

But in reading over the Testimonials forum I was really encouraged by the amount of people who had to restart - and then it just clicked in for them.

So now I've decided - I'm starting Vanilla No S tomorrow. My Day 1. I want to be on that Testimonials Board 10 months from now! :)

Day 1: Monday: N Day: Success!

B: Coffee & 1/2 & 1/2

L: Croissant
Morraccan lentil soup

D: Wine

Normally I would just throw in the towel because obviously this is a ridiculous day of eating. But I'm going to try to not focus on doing everything perfectly. I didn't have breakfast because I ate way too much the night before and was not hungry. I had a date after work and when I got home it was too late to eat and I was tired. But tomorrow is another day & I will shoot for 3 normal meals.

Thank you Gemma! :) It was a pretty good dinner

Day 2: Tuesday: N Day: Failure

B: coffee & 1/2 & 1/2
croissant

L: 1/2 cheeseburger & a few fries

D: cheese & crackers
beer

Had seconds on the cheese & crackers from my first plate. I have no idea why. I wasn't even hungry. I really have to keep reminding myself that I don't need to stuff myself at night because I am allowed to eat breakfast, whatever I want. If I am starving in the morning I can eat. This may take some time to get used to as my biggest reason in doing this is that I eat a lot at night and never in the mornings. I'd like to balance it out more.
