Dwain's monthly check in 4/27/14

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Dwain's monthly check in 4/27/14

Post by dbert » Sun Apr 27, 2014 4:55 pm

Well I'm happy to report that I have found the nos program to be a very workable system for me.

After one month, I'm down 4 lbs. which is exciting because I at least see a downward trend.

The trend is important to me because it shows the new habits are working and resulting in a steady and gradual weight loss over time.

I'm also enjoy my sledging sessions. They are fun and yet provide a good workout for functional strength and purposeful movement. Great core workout too!

Thanks Reinhard for creating such a workable system!!

That's great. Congrats on the weight loss and the mindset!

My sister-in-law years and years ago was bemoaning the fact that her weight loss was so slow so she didn't even try to stay on track.

I tried to tell her, if you just lose a pound a week, in two years you will be 104 pounds thinner. She said TWO YEARS ????? I told her that the years would pass whether she was working on the weight loss or not so she might as well be doing something.

That was about twenty years ago and she is still just as overweight.

Congrats, Dwain on the successes! Do you see yourself sticking with No S and shovelglove for the long haul, or do you have a different goal in mind?
