Carolyn's Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Carolyn's Check In

Post by Carolyn831 » Mon Feb 01, 2016 9:34 pm

I've been doing No S kind of half-heartedly for the last month and love the feeling of self-control I'm starting to have.

Now I want to do it for real, but need some accountability. I have about 15 lb of pregnancy weight and am breastfeeding a three month old, so I think I'm going to have to go with four meals rather than three.

4 meals sounds a good idea, and lots and lots of drinks. Remember if you are hungry you can have milk drinks and so on.

Good luck.

Yesterday was okay, but not perfect. Husband shoved a couple of almonds in my mouth in the evening and I probably should consider banana bread a sweet and off limits.

Welcome Carolyn - No S is a really great way to help your body get back to it's right weight without crazy food restrictions. I agree that four meals are probably wise if you are feeding a baby - but remember to change to three when you stop breast-feeding

When I began No S I allowed myself the option of having one snack a day - an option I only needed for the first couple of weeks (to my surprise, as I was previously a 3 meals and 3 snacks sort of person!).

I'd recommend getting the book if you haven't got it. And listen to the podcasts - you need all the support you can get at the beginning. Make sure you eat plenty at each meal until you've settled into the four meals a day with No Snacks, No Sweets, No Seconds. It's worth the effort!
I love Everyday Systems :3

Yesterday was a sick day. I stuck to 4 small meals, but I did eat some sweets. On to better things today!

I didn't realize what an impact chronic dieting has had on the simplest things. I just drank a glass of milk...the first in a very long time. When I was counting calories, I didn't want to "spend" any on beverages, even healthy ones like milk.

Welcome Carolyn! NoS is freeing in so many ways but not too freeing. Just the right amount of structure. Enjoy!

Well yesterday was a total disaster...

3 sick kids, no sleep, and a few big work projects had me stress-eating by noon. At least I made it through the morning? :?

Eating a bowl of oatmeal now and hoping for a better day.

I had my first S weekend and ate way too much (superbowl weekend junk). I was happy to see that the scale hadn't changed this morning though. I seem to have lost about 3 lb since I started 2 weeks ago. Sometimes I weigh a little less, but I'm not going above my new number. I'm thinking about doing a 40 day challenge for Lent.
