Gardening day sounds fun!
The peanut butter banana milkshake sounds really good. I am totally going to try that when I get more bananas. Hope your week is continuing to go well!

Lovely!Gardening day is my favourite day of the week and my bubble of children absolutely love it. They got filthy though; sending home dirty, happy, tired children made me feel like I'd done my job well today!

Monday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: pizza, carrot and an apple
Dinner: fish fingers, potatoes, peas and sweetcorn
Survived shopping without buying any unnecessary junk. Except for biscuits for the staffroom at work. Hopefully I'll leave them for other people...

Tuesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: pizza, carrot and an apple
Dinner: pasta with roasted veg and mozzarella.
I might have some grapes and strawberries later, virtually plated with dinner..
Slight stretching of the rules - I did have a tiny biscuit when I took them into the staff room at break time. Hopefully it will not become a regular habit, but I'm going to leave it green because I didn't go on to eat lots of biscuits! Small victories...

Tuesday
Breakfast: boiled egg on toast and a banana
Lunch: chicken soup, bread rolls, cheese
Dinner: pizza
I definitely had too much lunch and dinner but its the first day I've not snacked since, well, the last time I posted probably. I'm not justifying it because it's pretty bad habits I've got into, but hopefully now I'm no longer teaching 1/4 of my class + a bunch of children I've never taught before in school while simultaneously trying to make sure the other 3/4 of my class are OK at home, I'll be more likely to succeed!
Yes, after the strangest term of my teaching life, it is now finally the holidays. I've pretty much moved up to my parents' for the duration. Bit more tricky as there are many snacks here, but they're not mine and I'm here long enough to get into habits. Let's hope they're good ones!
As well as sorting the snacking, I'd like to be more active. I've been for a walk on three out of the four days I've been here (and they were all 1-2 hour ish walks, today's also had a big hill) and planned a bike ride tomorrow. Hopefully I'll also get back into jogging - there are some very scenic and flat routes round here!
Hope everyone is well and did not use the strange situation to eat All The Things (like me)!

In response to your last point, Flying...
I was terrible in the first few months of lockdown! Because I was shopping less, I stockpiled chocolate, intending to make it last for days. ha! You can imagine how that went! But somehow I made my way back to the vanilla lifestyle and things are going better now.
Good luck at your parents’, and have a great holiday.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Ah, I actually did reasonably well at home because I only bought a few snacks and then couldn't go out to get more. It was when I was back in school full time and chocolate kept appearing in the staffroom (often because I'd bought it in ) and I was ravenous by break time and again by 3:30pm, that's when it all went downhill for me!
Although having read back over my posts, at the very beginning I was mega - failing. Then I got used to being at home all the time and did better.
The only way is up! And being back here is a good thing.

Hi Flying pig! Nice to see you!
I am glad you are finally on holiday! I bet just the stress of not having to deal with teaching in such a new and different way and environment will probably help when it comes to sticking to habits. Sounds like you are in a great place for walking too!

Thursday
Breakfast: scrambled egg on toast, a banana
Lunch: courgette soup, cheese, bread
Dinner: teriyaki prawns with broccoli and noodles, yoghurt
Wasn't a big fan of dinner so only a small portion (and the yoghurt after), but did eat too much lunch. At least I didn't snack though - even though I was very tempted to as we had lunch pretty late.
... I'll be honest, breakfast was not that early!
It rained today so no exercise. I should have checked the forecast and done something in the morning. Live and learn!

Friday
Breakfast: boiled egg on toast, a banana
Lunch: chicken soup, bread, cheese, an apple
Dinner: various curries, rice, naan bread, grapes
And I went for a jog... Well.. I spent 14/30 minutes jogging, but that's almost half! Considering I haven't run since January that's not too bad.

Wednesday
Breakfast: cheerios with milk, a nectarine, strawberries, a banana
Lunch: bread, cheese, carrot soup, an apple
Dinner: courgette omelette, potato wedges, mange tout, tomato salad, grapes
Went for a run. 16/30 minutes running. At this pace, I'll be running 30 mins in four weeks... Just in time for the holidays to end
I am having a lovely summer! As my parents have been saying since March, not a bad place to be locked down. Haven't been anywhere except to exercise (and the walks have been straight from the house)... So much more chill than my usual summers going from one place to another. Maybe I'll learn to plan a little less for future holidays - though I might not be saying that in four weeks time!

Ooh I have meal envy, reading your delicious menus!
Well done with the running, and great to hear that your holiday is going well. I’ve been on many more walks and I’m realising that last year I was probably going round shopping centres as a way of entertaining myself. This is better!

Friday
Breakfast: bacon and egg sandwich, nectarine
Lunch: tomato soup, bread and cheese
Dinner: veggie sausages, cous cous salad
Run: 17/30 mins. And it was hot! We (went with my mum the last few times) tried to go early but not early enough - we finished around 9am and it was already quite warm. Now it's proper hot, but it's only forecasted to be a short heat wave (ie today). Spent the rest of the day lazing around reading- hooray for holidays!

Exercising in the heat is tough! Good for you for 17 minutes! That is awesome to see yourself progressing and getting stronger.
Enjoy your lazing around, that is the best feeling on holiday. Especially after a lot of exercise.

Re: flyingpig checkin
I mean it's still North(ish) of England hot- so not exceptional but I'm really not a natural runner so any excuse!
Today I did 20 minutes of running. And a bit of extra walking (accidentally - I go on a straight line path but went too far away from the car park) so it was more like 20/35. It's starting to feel a bit easier (I just felt a bit bored today.. I need something to listen to if I'm by myself I think!), so maybe I'll get back up to the dizzying heights of half an hour running soon.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Sounds like you are doing great! So your goal is 30 minutes of running?
Re: flyingpig checkin
My goal is to be able to "go for a run" and actually run all the time. 30 mins seems a sensible place to start! I was able to do that (or it could have been 20 minutes But all in one go rather than two 10 minutes blocks) in January
Monday
Or I could count it as a sick day... Bizarrely I seem to have suddenly become allergic to this house today. Including the garden The only time I stopped sneezing, sniffling and having itchy eyes was when we drove half an hour away and went for a short walk. As I was many of the seven dwarves (sneezy, grumpy, sleepy...) I ate a load of junk. It didn't help. Atchoooooo.
Hopefully tomorrow whatever it is that's making me react well have blown over... If I'm still sneezing, I'm not running. It's bad enough when I can breathe through my nose!

I stopped sneezing but I didn't stop eating
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
But Friday
And finally went for another jog. Still 20 mins in two 10 minutes blocks but less of a gap between the blocks.
Today we're going on a Long Walk. Even though it seems kinda hot out there (it's supposed to be cloudy but I can't see a cloud in the sky and I just had breakfast outside).

Re: flyingpig checkin
Monday
Lunch was late and I got hungry before it and ate cake. Went downhill from there...
Tuesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: bread and cheese
Dinner: pork medallions, potatoes and veg
Went out for dinner for the second time since restaurants reopened. Restaurant portions seem to have grown - I'm full! I shouldn't have eaten it all, it wasn't even that delicious (but it was nice not having to cook or clear up!). Last week when we went out for the first time it was amazing! But I was so stuffed afterwards...
In terms of exercise, Saturday's long walk was indeed long. And sweaty- it was supposed to be cloudy but it wasn't! We're not having the heatwave of the south of England (all my friends at home are melting) but it's pretty warm. Then yesterday I went jogging, did twenty minutes all in one go. Might have to try an evening jog tomorrow as we need to leave early to go on a walk I want to do that is too touristy to leave till later. My parents live in a national park - as many people have decided to holiday in the UK rather than abroad we have to choose our activities carefully to not end up in really busy places even though it's normally very quiet!

Hi Flying, your walk sounds great! And the jogging - 20 mins gains my respect!
I’m in the South East of England and the heat is just terrible! If you do a 5 minute chore you are drenched and have to sit down! Though we had thunder and rain this afternoon so it’s a tiny bit fresher now.

Urgh. I have no excuses. Except it was hot. And I didn't take enough water on (the very lovely) walk. But still, that does not mean I need to eat all the cake.

Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: Thai salmon, rice and runner beans
Tea: scones with cream and jam, cheese and crackers
Slightly adapted virtually plated to fit in with my dad's baking plans, which were necessary to use up the clotted cream that has been in the fridge far too long.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Thats great that you were able to jog for 20 minutes! Especially in the heat! I know it really makes your a person's body work harder to exercise in super hot humid weather.
Re: flyingpig checkin
Friday
That's supposed to be S day coloured... My parents bought a voucher for afternoon tea at a charity auction a long time ago and thought they better use it before everything gets locked down again (ever the optimists over here!). It was very lovely but much cake.
Funnily enough we actually had to book for 11:30am so it wasn't actually afternoon tea. Didn't make it any less delicious. And I've only had a few little things this evening as I was still full.
In jogging news, did 22 minutes in a row this morning. At the start of the run I said something about how it was nice to be a bit chilly when jogging. By the end the sun had come out... Defo not chilly!
Still, not sure it's gone over 30 degrees (Celsius) here, whereas it's been 34ish for several days at home (I think its cooled down now).

22 minutes!! Onwards and upwards!
Funny how cake keeps coming into my life, too. Very tricky to avoid it sometimes!
Hope your weekend goes well.

Monday
Breakfast: peanut butter and jam roll, an apple
Lunch: cheese, soup, bread
Dinner: tagliatelle lentilaise (like spaghetti bolognaise but not ), grapes
Ran 25 minutes yesterday. Same planned for tomorrow.
Today I had much hair cut off- probably a few hundred grams of weight loss

But I bet that shorter hair feels cooler during the summer.

Well the heat is finished - here at least. Recently we've had thunder, lightning, cloud, fog, wind, drizzle and today's highlight: heavy rain. Welcome to an English summer!
Managed to squeeze a run in while it wasn't raining. My hair blew around a bit but I'll get used to it not being tied back. Did 25 minutes. Was (just about) faster than the last run.
Tuesday
Breakfast: cheerios with milk
Lunch: soup, bread, cheese, mango
Dinner: salmon, green veg (beans, cauliflower, broccoli, courgette - the garden is going wild with all this rain after lots of sun!) and potato wedges, an apple

Congrats on the hair cut! Are you liking it? I also cut off my hair about a month ago and I love it. I have been wearing stretchy wide cloth headbands during work outs to keep my hair off my face. Don't know if that would work for you or not. Good for you for getting in a run!

Pinkie - do those headbands make you extra hot though? I haven't been wanting to pull my hair off my forehead because of fear of a burn, too. So my hair has just been floppy-floppy-floppy this summer.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Auto, no not for me, but maybe because I have bangs now and the bangs make me SUPER hot! A headband getting my hair off my face feels so much cooler! The ones I found are very thin and they spread wide so it distributes across my head. I also think they have gotten thinner with washing! Of course, a lot of my workouts involve a bike helmet so I am used to having something on my head. When I am not riding I have my headband and a hat or visor of some kind to protect my skin. I burn so easily its sad.
Re: flyingpig checkin
Need headband. Went for long walk on Thurs and hair was constantly flapping over my face, going in my mouth etc....
Have a good weekend, Flyingpig and all!
Have a good weekend, Flyingpig and all!
Re: flyingpig checkin
I realised that because my hair is longer at the front (it's a backwards bob or whatever they're called) I can actually tie the front back into a half ponytail. No more flappy hair!
I've had hair this short before but not for a while. I do like it, I'm just terrible at remembering to book hairdressers appointments at the best of times, let alone when they are shut for several months so it had got way longer than it had been for years.
Today's run was a winner - 28 mins and many Strava personal records. Still not sure I'm enjoying it enough to be able convince myself to carry on at home, but I'm thinking about running home from work sometimes and then having to walk in the next day.
Eating is not going so well...
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
They're not complete distasters, but a bit of cake here, a helping of ice cream there, a few pringles...
Excuse of the moment: it's too rainy. We've not really done anything this week (except a granny visit) as the weather has been a bit rubbish, so I've got bored.
It would seem there is no good weather for my self - control
Mark it, move on...

That is my hair too flyingpig! I kept it that way on purpose so I could tie it in a tiny ponytail at the back. It's pretty subtle though.
Octavia yes you need a headband!
Flyingpig good for you with your runs! What an awesome feeling to break Strava records.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Today was a very frustrating
Monday in terms of eating... I just competely forgot that I should say no to cake
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Snack: plum cake- my dad held a selection of cake in front of my face and I just took a piece and ate it before I thought about it.
Lunch: some veg pasta, bread roll, cheese
Dinner: cheese and bacon burger and chips
I'm pleased that I did not let the cake fail descend into wth-type behaviour. We went out for dinner this evening and I did not have a starter or pudding even though others did.
In exercise news, another 28 mins this morning. Broke more Strava records. I had my aunt hot on my heels for the last few minutes so I sped up to not be overtaken. She'd actually gone much further than me anyway, but it was good motivation to have a last minute spurt. Followed by a 3 hour walk up a hill at quite a pace - my brother was leading and he's speedy!
My legs are tired now though, will be glad of a rest day tomorrow. When I will try to remember to say no to cake.

I sometimes blank out too and seem to have forgotten it's an N day. Kudos for writing it down on here and getting back on track after that, ESPECIALLY with going out for dinner!

Haha my brother is literally the opposite of a go getter! I think he walks fast to get the walk over and done with. And to wait smugly for me and make "helpful" comments about how slow I am
Well this week has been a disaster food-wise..
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
But the holidays are almost over. I'm driving back home tomorrow and then there's a bank holiday on Monday before work starts again on Tuesday. We're easing into the new school year (two training days, then two half days for the children with time for us to meet parents in the afternoon if needed or do other work), so I'm hoping it won't be too stressful and cause me to eat all the things.
Did another 28 minute jog on Wednesday and then finally reached the 30 minute goal today Including the 5 minute walking at the start and end, I did 4.6km altogether so still not couch to five k, but getting there.

Congratulations on reaching 30 minutes straight of jogging! That is amazing! It must feel so good! You are definitely getting there.

Re: flyingpig checkin
Well didn't go running today but..
Monday
Breakfast: peanut butter and jam on toast
Lunch: salmon and rice salad, hula hoops, strawberry smoothie
Dinner: roast vegetables and chickpeas with cous cous
May have had a few nibbles of lunch things while making packed lunches for work but as I made two weeks of sandwiches for the freezer that won't happen again for a while
Might run home tomorrow, we'll see...

Failed to run home... Left my jogging stuff at school to try again tomorrow.
Tuesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, carrots and cucumber with humus, a couple of cherry tomatoes
Dinner: tofu and veg stir fry with noodles, an apple and a few grapes
Day 1 of work and I already forgot to eat my lunch until the last possible minute. Surprisingly busy considering there are no children yet. Not sure why I'm surprised to be honest...

Boom. I think staying green at work is easier when the main staffroom is off limits (we are technically allowed in but as we have another one in our building it seems silly to add to any crowding) and I've actually barely had time to go in the staff room at all. Today was the first time I took a proper lunch break and it was very weird... Didn't know what to do with myself!
Jogging on the other hand has been a disaster. My jogging things sat in my classroom cupboard all week. At least I brought them home for the weekend...

Yay its the weekend! I have had a harder time sticking to my exercise now that school is in swing as well. It's an adjustment, you will pick it back up I think once you get used to your new routine.

Finally went jogging yesterday. And it actually felt quite good. So hopefully that will inspire me for tomorrow...

Thanks
Wednesday
Breakfast: porridge with strawberries
Lunch: cheese sandwich, an apple
Dinner: roast vegetables with harrissa dressing and cous cous, mango
And then I went shopping (for lunch things - didn't have anything else in today hence why lunch was a bit meagre) and managed not to buy any junk. Except for some chocolate to give as a gift.

Monday
Breakfast: half a peanut butter and banana sandwich, apple pie (it did have sugar in the apples but not in the pastry)
Lunch: cheese sandwich, carrot, humus, cherry tomatoes, grapes
Dinner: leek and mushroom risotto
Probably shouldn't still be eating the apple pie but I made a way too big one on Saturday. Its not actually that exciting - mostly just stewed apple so I decided having it for breakfast was OK. Better than having it for dessert!
I think I'll abandon jogging this week - we're having a brief heat wave. It's quite cold in the mornings but still only just getting used to getting up in the dark! And now it's still mid 20 celsius so not ideal. I have planned a walk after work tomorrow so that might be enough!

I hope you get a nice walk in during these last days of summer! Where I am at it is so smoky from wildfires that outdoor activity is really just not possible. My dogs are getting cabin fever!

Re: flyingpig checkin
Nice work on the jog/walks! When I was a Jaycee a long time ago, I organized 5K's for our charity a couple years. Then I was obligated to run in them. An accountant friend at work, ran in his first 5k. He later went on to run in marathons, and said that first 5k was what got him started.flyingpig wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 10:39 amHaha my brother is literally the opposite of a go getter!

Tuesday
Breakfast: half a peanut butter and banana sandwich, apple pie
Lunch: cheese sandwich, orange pepper, cherry tomatoes, grapes
Dinner: tofu stir fry, stewed apple
Oops, forgot to walk. Hadn't arranged a time or place with my friend so forgot competely about it only realised when leaving work (too late to fit in a walk before dark). I was pretty hot and bothered (we're not allowed the air con in school and our building is like a greenhouse) so maybe for the best.
Sorry to hear about the fires, automated! I hope you get some relief soon.
I hope I get back on the running wagon soon!

...the little UK heatwave is certainly stopping me from running! I’d rather go in the freezing cold...

Another green week Today was the first day in ages when I was tempted to just find some chocolate and eat it... But having had such a streak of greens was actually very helpful because then I decided I would rather keep my streak

Who woulda thunk it?
I think that possibly my first ever 21 days success, without a sprinkling of weekday S days. I'm not looking through nearly three years worth of posts, but I checked the beginning when I was quite compliant and I stuck in a lot of random S days.

My freezer stocks are running low and they're talking about a new lock down. Bad timing...

And completing the green week:
Friday
Breakfast: scrambled egg on toast
Lunch: tuna sandwich and grapes (it was so cold in my classroom my humus was still frozen (I took it out the freezer first thing) so a bit of a meagre lunch - I'm not keeping the door to the outside open any more next week!)
Dinner: a sort of improvised veggie pad thai with a fried egg on top

Monday
Breakfast: scrambled egg on one slice of bread, peanut butter on another
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cucumber, red pepper, humus, cherry tomatoes and an apple
Dinner: leek and mushroom risotto
Did a whole bunch of running around to get my car fixed after work today, so I am tired out. It failed its MOT so I'll be getting my 10,000 steps a day until that's all sorted.
Haven't been jogging for over a week, but did make myself go for a walk on both Saturday and Sunday, despite the fact that summer has suddenly stopped and its now coat weather (my parents have had frost already).

Re: flyingpig checkin
We've had a couple of lovely crisp days (that's when it was coldest) but also some warmer drizzlier ones.
Tuesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, carrot, red pepper and an apple
Dinner: sweet potato and green lentil curry with naan
So much walking without a road - worthy car... In boots I haven't worn since the spring... Turns out they are not very comfy. My feet are not happy.

Wednesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, a cherry tomato (possibly the last one from the garden, unless any manage to ripen in the drizzle), an apple, some mango
Dinner: leek and mushroom risotto
Another 16000 steps today. Hopefully will sort my car out tomorrow!

Thursday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cherry tomatoes (they did ripen in the rain!), mango and an apple
Dinner: chilli beans and brown rice
Car is now fixed, so only 8000 steps... I do like a walk but the 40 mins home when it was raining and I was hungry was making me a bit grumpy. Phone is now broken...

‘It never rains but it pours’, as my old dad used to say. You deserve a streak of good luck! Hope the weekend goes well.
Re: flyingpig checkin
You might be a little less sympathetic when I tell you that my car failed its MOT because I ignored the advisories last year (it needed new tyres and I live literally opposite a tyre shop). And my phone is broken because I dropped it down the toilet I'm just not very good at adulting.
My weekend has been good though. Went to the beach yesterday and to someone's house for lunch today. Also made some questionable food choices but it is the weekend.... And at least I'm eating the sharing bag of crisps etc instead of dinner rather than as well as.
