Tommi's Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Tommi's Daily Check In

Post by tommi » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:56 pm

I have started 2 days ago but discovered the Check In forum now only.
I'll measure things with fingers' width, it may sound stupid but it's an easy way for me to keep track of things.
I will also describe things with a lot of precision because i need this to be very rational, sorry if posts become lenghty.

Day 001
----------
Breakfast: none (i go to sleep late and wake up too late for breakfast)
Lunch: Little (like a coffee mug) of ravioli (leftover) with cabbage and beans, one piece of bread (big like a cigarette packet). One glass (7 fingers height, 5 fingers wide) of wine
Afternoon break: One liter of tea (Twinings English Breakfast), i need to remember buying Green Tea.
I have also drunk a beer (33cl, Nastro Azzurro)
Dinner: half a dish of farfalle all'amatriciana, half a dish of broccoli, another cigarette packet of bread and a tiny (2 fingers wide, 3 fingers tall, 6 fingers long) slice of low salt cheese ("primosale").

Even if i followed the rules (the three Ss), i consider today as a failure, because i have drunk a beer for no reason while working on my computer, completely pointless.
I also should have avoided that cheese with bread, not because it wouldn't fit in one plate but because i decided to eat it even if my stomach was ok.

It takes time to figure these things out. Just keep going.
