Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Hi Dave!
Mmmwah!

Not gaining is what you really want...

I'm sure, over time, you will shed more pounds little by little.
Percentage wise, you lost a whole lot of weight already and just give your body a chance to take it in...

I'm proud of you and your alphabet!!!
Peace and Love,
8) Deb

Happy Daylight savings time! What will you do with your extra hour of power today? LOL..

Day 11 (Mon): S Day 11:11:1

The boys were so excited about Halloween, we decided to really go for it and make it special for them. It was pointless not joining in, so I guess this counts as an S Day :)

Day 19 (Tue): FAILURE!

Don't know how to really describe this one. I did well all day, Had a nice big dinner, and then went for a couple of extra sausages and a round of bread. Once I'd blown it, I ended up having a bowl of cereal for supper.

Day 1 (Wed): FAILURE!

I started today, fully confident that I would have a good day. Everything went well during the day, and then I got home and found that Diane had opened a packet of Tim-Tams. Now I had been waiting until Saturday for those, but I knew that if I didn't get one while they were going they'd be all gone by the time Saturday came around!! So I had one. Then another. Then I snacked until supper. Supper was a bowl of cereal again.

Day 1 (Thu) SUCCESS! 1:1b:0

At last! Through the day was fine, but after dinner was harder. I wanted that bowl of cereal for supper. I lost count of the number of times I slammed the cereal box down and stomped away saying "No. I won't! I won't!"

At one point I even had a leftover slice of toast in my mouth from one of the boy's plates. I spat that out into the dustbin.

But I am triumphant in the end! Back on the wagon!

 :P   :P   :P

And I have certainly considered the whys and wherefores of my behaviour over the past few days. I'm wondering whether the daily check in has something to do with it. I've been a bit lax checking in recently (Other interent stuff needed doing, the BATHROOM needed doing, etc.)

Maybe the daily check in provides that 'AA' moment for me. Maybe it forces me to be held accountable to 'someone' on a daily basis.

It's something to think about.

Wow Dave, that is weird because I've been looking at the cereal box at strange times of the night for comfort food, and I too have been eating a few extra bites at the stove, which shouldn't happen...
(Last night I made jambalaya and I was fishing out the sausage bits before it got put away in the fridge, and then, embarrassingly enough, I ate some of it, cold, later in the night! Yuck LOL.....)

I think there's is a correlation between posting and our excesses and also our triumphs...

Well, you probably understand, first hand, the benefits of
Confession!
LOL..
It's very freeing...

So, yes, in the end, you can turn it around (and it's really never the end till we are food for the worms, and according to Hindus, not even then!)
and triumph, by getting back to it!!!!
A few good days can turn, even a few bad months around...

I took a big break from Yoga, during the period of time that the previous hideous manager was still at the club, simply because I couldn't handle the toxic vibes there, and when I came back, oh mama!!!, it was hard to start again...
Ironically, my NoS wasn't so hot during that time either, and I feel it was not a coincidence...
When we do good things for ourselves, it's one big happy cycle, versus a vicious cycle...

Good for you on stomping, and yelling at the cereal box and spitting out that toast!!!!!!!!
LOL...
Get Hardcore on yer own arse!!!

We have to be our own masters...
But yeah, sharing on the board is extremely empowering and the support is very helpful...

Oh, that reminds me of the Yoga story, now I'm back to it, but it totally felt like I was at square one when I got started again, as five or six weeks away from it made me all weighted down and really tired...
So my point is, with NoS, and exercise,,,,

We just can't disappear for weeks on end!

Enjoy your weekend Dave and keep it up!!!
Love,
8) Deb

Day 2 (Fri): S(ick) Day

Yes, I've not been feeling very well today. Probably caught the cold that my eldest (by 3 minutes) has had. Was all shakey after lunchtime and ended up going for a Mars bar for the sugar rush.

Day 3(Sat): S Day

An official S Day today, and thank heavens! I've really snacked and treated myself throughout the day! Still feeling a bit rough, but better than Friday at least. Did some work in the bathroom.

Day 5 (Mon): S(ick) Day 5:1f:0

Made a mistake yesterday - only had 3 S days by then. Today makes the fourth in a row :?

Now the weird part: At the weigh in this morning, I honestly expected to to have gained - after all, I had 2 failures and three S days last week. I ended up losing 1lb.

How weird is that??!!

HAH! What an idiot! That should have been Tuesday through Friday. D'oh!

No we don't celebrate thanksgiving, but some people over here think that maybe we should! (sly dig) HA HA!

As for the latter end of the weeK: I scrapped it. Friday was 'Children in Need' day. It's a national charity day when people do stupid things to raise money for children's charities. We had a cake stall at work...'nuff said...

...and I'm scrapping the numbering system - it's too hard! :D

Start again Monday!

Day 1 (Mon): SUCCESS!! Monday!

(And I'm only going to report on my weight once per month...) :P

Hi Guys!

Deb: I think your left arm will be safe for quite a while yet!

Ang_grr: It was a bit foggy yesterday, but nothing like on Monday. I'm glad I'm on the bus. All those pile ups sounded terrible.

Its now 7:22 am on Weds morning, and we've got a bit of fog hanging around. I drove into work this morning, so I'm hoping it clears before my journey through rush hour tonight!

Day 2 (Tue): SUCCESS!

Had a BIG plate of food last night. Went to the Robin Hood in Swinton with some mates (2 for 1 deal), so we all had the mixed grill. 80z steak, gammon, chicken breast, 2 sausages, chips, peas, egg, onion rings, and half a fried tomato. BRILLIANT!

Oh, and I checked the scales again this morning, and somehow I lost 2lbs since yesterday. HAH!

Gammon is a ham joint. Or can also appear as a ham steak. Eaten hot, usually with pineapple, sometimes also eaten with eggs, as "eggs and ham" (Dr Seuss style!)

(I've double posted this in the General Discussion - I'm a bad man! Don't worry - I won't be doing it again)

Hello there!

I've not been around here for a while, but when my weight hit 14 stone (196lbs) I decided it was time to do something about it.

I've been NoS'ing now for about 5 weeks now, and using HabitCal to track my progress (Brilliant idea Reinhard! I was using a similar system way back in 2004 when I was NoS'ing originally. Should've just give it a quirky name, eh? :D )

You can see my progress here: http://www.everydaysystems.com/habitcal ... =tonsha&t=*

I've also been Urban Rangering - 4 miles in the morning on my way to work (I normally catch 2 buses, so I'm effectively missing the first bus), and then a quick half hour walk at lunch time (approx 2 miles).

I've made very positive progress with both of these, and seen the weight start to drop, although I've now decided to only weigh myself once a month. There really is too much emotion invested in those little numbers - heaven forbid they go up!

The really great thing is that I can actually *feel* my belly getting smaller. And I've had third party confirmation that this is so - apart from my wife! :D

I don't intend to use my check in on a daily basis, but I will probably update monthly or so, and try and be involved with the forum in other threads.

Nice to be back!
