Nagla929's Progress

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

I am really struggling. I need to stop finishing my son's food and stay away from the snack foods and desserts. This was somehow easier when I was temporarily staying over my parents house for two weeks while hubby was overseas. Now, I can't seem to stop picking. Maybe I should start checking in daily instead of weekly like I did when I was at my parent's house. Also, if I start using the habitcal, seeing those red squares might discourage me from messing up. :(

Week #6
7/30/08 weight: 137.6 lbs. (62.5 kilos)

Wed. 7/30/08
B: a banana w/ 1 1/2 teaspoons sour cream, 1/4 cup walnuts, and 1 teaspoon sugar; a cup of coffee w/ 1 teaspoon sugar & hazelnut-flavored coffee creamer
L: a peanut butter & strawberry jelly sandwich on white bread AND 1 oz. of Live Active cheese
D: (LC): Lemon Chicken (lightly breaded chicken breast w/ rib meat in a lemon glaze w/ brown rice risotto), 4 fried potato wedges w/ tahini sauce, and 1 glass of soda

I was doing ssssssssooooooo well, today. But then, of course, I had to ruin it.
Snack: 2 Dunkin Donuts munchkins  :D
Oh well, I'm going to mark it and move on. Tomorrow is another day.

Thurs. 7/31/08
B: a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich on white bread
L: a multigrain tortilla w/ refried beans, a slice of American cheese, and a packet of mild sauce
D: white rice, one piece of barbecue chicken, potatoes baked in a tomato sauce, and 2 large olives
Slip-up: While making a strawberry jelly sandwich for my son, I ate about 1/2 a teaspoon of jelly. I'm still counting today as a success, but I'll be careful about "picking" next time. :P

Fri. 8/1/08
Because of yesterday's success, I am so excited about another success, today. Maybe I will try this 21 days of success, thing. It'll give me a small challenge to work towards.

B: grilled American cheese sandwich, pimiento olives, a cup of coffee w/ sugar and hazelnut-flavored creamer
L: (Dole Light Caesar Salad Kit): romaine lettuce, fat-free garlic croutons, and light Caesar dressing (I'm not into the fat-free thing, but this is what came in the salad kit and I figure it would be a "better" choice since dressing tends to have a lot of unncessary calories and I LOVE dressing). Also, 1 oz. of Live Active cheese
D: a multigrain tortilla w/ refried beans, beef, a Mexican cheese blend, pimiento olives, a packet of mild sauce, and sour cream; one "homemade" corn muffin; a tomato salad (diced tomatoes w/ spices)
Another slip-up: a teeny crumblet of my son's muffin. He didn't want to finish it and I didn't want to throw it out. Again, I'm still counting this as a SUCCESS day and will try to be more careful.

Sat. 8/2/08
Thank God, an S day :P
B: a sweet & salty almond granola bar and a corn muffin
L: Domino's Pizza: ate 3 plain slices of pizza from a medium pie, 3 or 4 buffalo chicken kickers with blue cheese dressing & hot sauce, and drank a glass of soda
D: Nothing
Snack: a few sips of orange juice from my son and a McDonald's chocolate chip cookie

Sun. 8/3/08
B: a sweet & salty almond granola bar
L: a little less than 2 slices of cheese pizza and soda
D: a cheeseburger, french fries, about 2 chicken tenders, ketchup, and soda
Snack: an ice cream cone (shared with my son but I probably ate more of it than he did).
Snack: had to finish my son's sweet & salty almond granola bar (a bit more than 1/2 of it; I love those things. I would never throw it out in the garbage :D )
Snack: 3 mini napoleons (a serving is 5 pieces)
Exercise: went to Splashdown Beach water park with my husband and son for about 4 hours (This is what I call "purposeful swimming")

Mon. 8/4/08
B: a banana, 1/4 cup walnuts, 1 teaspoon sour cream, and 1 teaspoon sugar (I'm getting kind of tired of writing this ingredient list but I just don't know what to call this banana mixture of mine) AND 1 oz. Live Active cheese
Snack: a sweet & salty almond granola bar AND 1/2 of a hummus sandwich on white bread
L: pizza on a bagel (a bagel, seasoned tomato sauce, and 2 slices of American cheese) AND 2 chocolate chip cookies that my sister made. If it makes it any better, she made them "healthy"; extremely thin and with applesauce
Snack: vanilla and chocolate ice cream bar
Snack: 3 mini napoleons
Snack: 2 mini muffins, a handful of walnuts, and my son's leftover french fries w/ hot mustard sauce
Dinner: (McDonald's) a crispy ranch snack wrap, small french fries, a chicken nugget, and hot mustard sauce
Snack: (picked at Hubby's dinner from Alexis Diner) some Kriss Kross french fries w/ a ketchup packet and a few bites of the spicy buffalo wrap

I do not know what I was thinking. Writing all this down makes me feel like a human waste disposal. :(

Tues. 8/5/08
B: hummus sandwich on white bread and an almond granola bar
Snack: 6 (What can I say?! They were sitting RIGHT in front of me. :? I swear I wake up every morning with the intention of having a GREEN day and then, something just happens. As I was writing, 6 "homemade" and "healthy" and very thin, chocolate chip cookies
(Who am I kidding?! :( )
Lunch: "fiteera" My dad made it and wanted me to taste it. It is a pastry/dessert and he doesn't make them often. I couldn't just say "no."
Snack: 3 olives and a grape leaf (I need to stop this picking. My goodness, it's like I have no control, no boundaries.)
Dinner: only one plate of food and no vertical stacking; I tried to be good.
4 grape leaves, white rice and potatoes in a tomato sauce, and 2 pieces of chicken made on a barbecue grill
Snack: a banana w/ chocolate syrup and walnuts (I just needed something chocolatey).
Snack: licked batter leftovers and ate a few walnuts (batter: a corn muffin mix w/ an egg, some milk, chocolate syrup, and walnuts)

Another failure day, oh my.
I seem to be on a terrible roll, here.

Week #8
8/13/08 weight: 139.8 lbs. (63.5 kilos)

Wed. 8/13/08
B:

Thurs. 8/14/08
Fri. 8/15/08
Sat. 8/16/08
Sun. 8/17/08
Mon. 8/18/08
B: one loaf of pita bread, some blue cheese and Romano cheese, and 3 green olives
L: (LC): Chicken Pecan (roasted chicken tenderloins in a savory pecan sauce, w/ snap peas & brown rice) AND 1 mug of Lipton tea (w/ two packets of Splenda)

Now, I am not one for sugar substitutes and I know Reinhard advises against them, but I just realized I can have drinks between meals to keep from snacking and the amount of sugar really does add up. I realize that if I was way heavier, there are probably other things I should be cutting out instead of a few teaspoons of sugar. Luckily, I am not that overweight, so this is something that I will start watching.

D: one plate of "Kooshari" (an Egyptian dish made w/ rice, lentils, elbow macaroni, tomato sauce, and sauteed onions)
Beverage: a mug of coffee w/ 3 packets of Splenda and 1 tablespoon of hazelnut-flavored coffee creamer

Yes, finally a GREEN day. :) I am really going to try, again. I previously started ignoring the habits and ate everything in sight and now I gained weight. I will be in control of my appetite, NOT the other way around.

Tues. 8/19/08
B: a glass of orange juice + calcium and a bowl of cereal (Post: Trail Mix Crunch Cereal)
Beverage: a cup of tea with 2 splenda packets
L: a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich on white bread, a banana, and some walnuts
Beverage: a cup of tea w/ 2 teaspoons sugar
Dinner: Did engage in a bit of vertical stacking by eating 2 loaves of pita bread, the rest of the plate included about 2 tablespoons each of "mish" (a cheese mixture) and "fool midamis" (fava beans), tomato and cucumber slices, and about 1/2 of a pickled eggplant and some homemade pickles

I think the beverage thing is really helping me not need to snack on everything in sight. :)

Week #9
8/20/08 weight: 138.2 lbs. (62.8 kilos)

Wed. 8/20/08
B: a cup of coffee w/ 1 tsp. sugar, 1 splenda packet, and 2 tbsp. hazelnut coffee creamer; a banana w/ walnuts and a peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich on white bread

Had a 12:00 PM breakfast b/c I had an early appointment for someone to come and install the new stove

L: (LC): roasted potatoes, broccoli, and cheddar cheese sauce; a glass of OJ + calcium; a bite of my son's chicken tender
D: one "hawawshi" and a chicken tender w/ hot mustard sauce; a banana w/ walnuts

Today is nephew's 4th birthday, but the party will be on saturday. So, I considered today an N day, not an S day. :)

Thurs. 8/21/08

I have previously been weighing myself daily in the mornings. I've resolved not to do this, anymore. I will only weigh once a week on wednesdays because I want to stop obsessing about the number on the scale, but I still need some way to know that I am headed in the right direction.

Beverage: coffee w/ tsp. sugar and hazelnut creamer
B: PB+J sandwich and a glass of OJ + calcium
L: (LC): Lemon chicken w/ brown rice risotto AND a pear
D: "hawawshi" w/ hot mustard sauce
Beverage: a cup of coffee w/ 2 splenda and hazelnut creamer
Beverage: 2 VERY small sips of orange soda

I'm not sure if soda is an S item or if it is just the worst on the list of calorie/sugar drinks that are allowed on N days. In either case, it was only 2 sips, so I'm still considering today an GREEN day. :)

Fri. 8/22/08

Yes! :P Only one more day until an official S day. :P

B: a banana, some walnuts, and a glass of OJ + calcium
L: basmati rice w/ saffron, fried cauliflower stewed in a tomato sauce, a piece of beef, spinach salad w/ grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, fried calamari (some vertical stacking w/ the calamari   ), and fresh lime juice
D: spinach salad w/ grape tomatoes, artichoke hearts, fried calamari, and fresh lime juice AND a glass of OJ + calcium
Snack: Mango-Strawberry Fruitista (my husband was trying to be nice by picking up this frozen drink, so I drank it b/c I didn't want it to melt) :( It tasted good, but I wish I had stuck it out the few hours that were left in this day.

Oh well, I'd been "tasting" too much while I was cooking dinner, anyway and I also had a few bites of my son's food while I was feeding him and another few bites of leftovers while I was clearing the kitchen.

I'm just going to count this as a RED day and move on. Hopefully, I'll be able to be better focused on the N day habits in the days to come.

Sat. 8/23/08

Today is my nephew's 4th B-day party. I am going to try to have an ideal S day w/ 3 N-style meals and a piece of the birthday cake. :)

B: a PB+J sandwich, a banana, and about 3/4 cup of coffee w/ 1 tsp. sugar and hazelnut creamer (left over from hubby who was running late to work; I swear, sometimes I really do feel like a human garbage disposal :( )
