Strawberry Roan's 2014 Daily Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Strawberry Roan's 2014 Daily Check In

Post by Strawberry Roan » Fri Mar 21, 2014 7:30 pm

First of all, I am happy to be back! My husband was in the hospital for 129 days and I stayed with him EVERY SINGLE DAY ! Although it was suggested that we come home on hospice on more than one occasion, he fought through it all and is now home and expected to fully heal. He had a below the knee amputation on Halloween, it failed and he had an above the knee revision of the amputation twelve days later. Multiple infections, wound failed to heal, 100 days of hyperbaric chamber treatments two hours daily, etc..... But he is home and we are happy! He is on a wound vac and under the care of home health but they are very optimistic that he will heal, get fitted for a prosthetic and be back in the field on his tractor in no time.

(I want to thank you oolala for your kind message)

____________________________________________________

Now, back to NO S. I did pretty well at the hospital considering that I did not have access to my monster daily salads that I am known for (the cafeteria sold salads priced by the quarter ounce - yes they did - mine would have cost thirty dollars a day

I walked a lot for exercise and to relieve tension - and had access to the fitness equipment in the rehab department. I worked hard not to lose weight which I tend to do when I am stressed, weight is okay right now but I need to get rid of bad habits like diet soda and junk food from vending machines.

SO, I shall do just that.

Today I have eaten Cheerios with 2 pct milk for breakfast with a banana

Peanut butter and honey sandwich for lunch

Coffee with french vanilla creamer (couple of cups) and lots of water. I love water.

Will have my beloved salad for dinner with some spaghetti topped with salsa, cheese and Italian herbs.

Happy to be back and thank you all for your kind words on my thread last fall.

Oh, and I turned 65 in March. Happy Medicare to me :D

Morning No S er's....

Had a great day yesterday, got in my exercise and ate exactly as planned - well less than planned. The monster salad filled me up to the point that I didn't even want the spaghetti. Didn't even want M and Ms that the hubby offered me - He said, But look, it's a shareable bag!

Wasn't really hungry this morning, made steel cut oats with blueberries and a squirt of local honey, only ate a few bites. Probably because I am a little nervous as my husband is out on his first trip in five months (with the preacher and some other friends). They are going to the hardware store, barber, feed store, local diner, etc. I am sure he is very excited to be out and about but I am worried about him. But he will be fine.......

On a side note, just three days of no diet soda and I no longer look five months pregnant, three maybe. 8)

Hubby had a wonderful time on his trip with the guys, they are excellent carpenters and did wonderful modifications to the back stairs leading to the entrance to the house through the deck and to the Master Bath shower. Love those guys!

Had a Progresso tomato rotini soup for lunch at 1:30, it was great!

Drinking unsweetened tea and water. Craving Diet Dr Pepper :x

Dinner was three small slices of cheese and veggie pizza (out of 12) and a large spinach salad with lots of fresh apple chunks in it - topped with pomegranate vinegar.

No snacks, lots of exercise and plenty of water.

Hopefully I am back on track.

Morning Journal

Having a great day, felt so much better when I woke up today. Although the old habit of first thing in the morning looking for cookies or something to have with my coffee almost reared it's head. But I ignored. Snacking is easily my worst habit. No real hunger attached, just snacking.

Just ate half of one of those big muffins - cranberry/orange/flax/cinnamon - yummy.. We are having a family dinner this afternoon and instead of making a cake with icing, etc. - that almost nobody eats anymore - I thought the muffins would do double duty as breakfast/brunch and an after dinner with coffee snack later.

Have to get my exercise in early as I will be busy until late I am sure.

Enjoy your Sunday all.

Lunch/Dinner was crispy baked chicken, glazed carrots, garlic mashed potatoes, corn and my daughter-in-law brought deviled duck eggs - she bought duck eggs for two dollars a dozen at an Amish farm stand. They were slightly bigger but not much and tasted the same.

Ate sanely, might have another half a muffin with some hot coffee or tea later tonight.

Still have to exercise but the company is all gone so there is time.

Great granddaughter and her mommy and daddy came by to surprise my husband - she will be a year old this week and is just, well, precious. (Gratefully they loved the giant muffins and took three home with them)

On to Monday 8)

Thank you so much ironchef. Feeling even better tonight, my husband had his two week post discharge check up today and the doctors said he is doing great. Only about two more weeks of wound vac/ home health ! YAY !!

Today is going very well, didn't eat anything until about three, too nervous about the doctor's visit (our son took him, I was at work). Once I got the good news, I had a late lunch of sliced apple, cheddar cheese and pretzels.

Dinner is my big salad with lots of veggies and fruits, along with a couple little pieces of leftover pizza.

Got in some walking today, not enough but the weather is warming up so I will make up for it the rest of the week. I like to walk around town on my lunch hour and look at all the pretty flowers and trees starting to bloom.

Although the fridge at work is stocked with diet soda, I didn't have any. Just hot green tea and iced water.

To your health all,

on to Tuesday

Happy Tuesday, fellow Journalers.

Had a great day, breakfast was the final cranberry/orange/pecan muffin - had it at work with hot green tea.

Drank LOTS of tea and water today.

Lunch was a cheese stick, apple and pretzels. Also was cleaning out the cabinets at work and found some Snackwell fudge cookies. Had to eat one to see if it was stale - let's just say it was v e r y chewy

Dinner is a piece of leftover pizza and leftover spaghetti with fresh salsa and melted cheese (have to stock up on salad stuff tomorrow). Skipped the garlic bread as I would have eaten four pieces for sure

Got in some walking today and it felt great.

And great that you got a nice walk.

Thank you all so very much for your kind words. This is, without a doubt, the most supportive board I have ever been on. Everybody wants everybody else to be the very best they can be!

I want to try and read everybody's threads to catch up as soon as I can. I have been so busy at work and at home. But everything is going great!

Today went well, I ate leftover pizza and a cheese stick for breakfast/lunch and then ate a 20 grams of protein bar in the afternoon. But now I am not hungry for dinner  Drank lots of green tea, iced water and then hot lemon water!

That's okay, if I am not hungry, no need to eat. I listen to my body to the extent that I can. I am sure I will catch up the next couple of days, I do know that I need to go shopping for lots of fruits and veggies!

Got in a nice walk again today, a bit windy but still Spring-like.

Thanks again.

To your health,
Berry

Happy Thursday Fellow Journalers :D

Cleaning out the freezer today in preparation for a BIG shopping day tomorrow.

So, naturally I ate the end of the frozen onion rings (baked in the oven) and a Dreamsicle bar for lunch. (No breakfast).

For dinner I plan to make a wild rice, mushroom, and broccoli casserole topped with cheese and crushed white corn tortilla chips. that get nice and cheesy/crunchy under the broiler. Oh yeah!

With a mandarin orange/walnut/spinach salad with a red wine vinegar dressing.

Off work today so I got in double the amount of exercise, did some walking along with biking, the glider and Ab Coaster Pro. I always say that my saving grace (if I have one  ) is that I love - make that crave - exercise. Always have.

Hope everybody is having a wonderful day.

To your health all,
Berry

Good Friday Evening my wonderful fellow journalers -

Had a great day shopping with friends, didn't eat breakfast - had a nice lunch of chili and a side salad (not huge but nice) and unsweetened iced tea. I told myself that I would have diet soda as I haven't had any all week, but once I got there I realized I was doing so well without it and the puffiness it brings me that I had my tea instead. It was fine

For dinner I made my husband tacos, I didn't want the shells or any meat so I ate the taco fixings as a salad - lettuce, tomatoes, olives, sour cream, cheese, etc. It was great. I also had a key lime Greek yogurt and some mandarin orange segments. Quite refreshing.

Got in lots of walking today shopping so that will be my exercise for today.

Bought about every conceivable healthy food I could think of. We are stocked to the rafters! Cannot wait to enjoy it all.

Enjoy your evening all.

To your health,
Berry

Hahaha, that "end of the freezer" meal made me laugh. We got a new fridge last week, so a few of the same things happened, e.g. "What do you call this honey?" "Oh, this is clean out the freezer and pantry pie".

Happy Saturday fellow Journalers -

Busy, busy day. Lots of company coming and going - just short visits to say hi to us and see how my husband is doing but I didn't even get around to eating anything until after 2. Rather than scarf down something bad for me, I took my time and made me a nice salad topped with pomegranate vinegar and added a scoop of cottage cheese with some pineapple chunks sprinkled with cinnamon on the side of the plate. So many good veggies in my salad - the cucumber and grape tomatoes were wonderful.

Loved it all and glad I took the time to do it rather than grab some chips or something.

Aww, thanks. We are very simple Ozark people - nothing fancy here. I do love good healthy food, tho.

Tonight we finished off the crunchy, cheesy, broccoli casserole. Yummy. I was so craving it the whole time we were in the hospital. As good as I remembered.

Got in two hours of exercise today, drank lots of hot lemon water and unsweetened tea. Probably won't eat anything else - will probably just take a hot bubble bath, read a book and head to bed with the hubby to watch some tv.

To your health all,

I lied, there is a single serving left of the casserole. It shall be mine tomorrow for lunch perhaps  Each time it is warmed up, it gets a fresh layer of broiled cheese and crunchiness. Because somebody (that would be moi) eats more than her share of the other layer while it is bubbling hot.

Happy Sunday All.

Breakfast Brunch (at 11) - low fat vanilla yogurt parfait - layered with sliced banana and Kashi Go Lean cereal, topped with cold milled organic flax seed and cinnamon. Forgot I had bought the flax seed - I sprinkle it on almost everything! Drank some coffee earlier, switching to hot lemon water now.

Going to do a lot of yardwork a bit later, that will be my exercise for today probably.

Ahhh, several hours work of raking and bending and lifting and carrying. Got a lot of cleaning done, my perennial beds look great and the daffodils are everywhere in full bloom. My neck and shoulders hurt so the hot bubble bath tonight will really feel good.

Ate my rice dish about 2 while taking a break and watching E reruns of the Voice. It was great, didn't put it in the oven as it was too hot to do that for one little serving of food - just sprinkled some cheese and crushed tortilla chips on it and warmed it in the microwave.

Dinner was a giiant veggie salad with cranberries, apple chunks and sliced pecans. Red wine vinegar. Very filling.

Ready for Monday, to your health all,
Berry

Thanks ladies for stopping by and for your comments.

I really do love to eat !

For breakfast I had a 20 gm protein bar with hot lemon ginger tea. Very busy morning at work, luckily I wasn't even hungry until about 2. I made me a pretty plate of sliced cucumbers, halved cherry tomatoes, cubed boiled egg and a diagonally sliced cheese stick. I arranged it all very nicely - then ATE it

Got in some walking around town, very pretty Spring day.

Dinner was a small spinach/carrot/black olive salad topped wiht Texas toast, lemon pepper onion crisps, and drizzled with rice wine vinegar. And as if that wasn't enough food, I made me a little saucer of a scoop of cottage cheese surrounded by alternating sliced of peaces and avocado. A perfect, buttery avocado.

It was all so good, so pretty and I enjoyed it so much.

Now off to take a bubble bath before Dallas comes on so I can watch it in bed with the hubby.

To your health all,
Berry

Why, I am blushing. Not only from your kind words but from all of the errors in my last entry. I really should re-read my words after submitting them but was really in a hurry last night. Pardon Moi !

Thank you very much and I will indeed feed and water the horses at 6 a.m. before getting ready for the corporate world.

And, please let me rephrase my last post to read Texas toast croutons - not Texas toast - although I certainly would top a salad with a huge hunk of Texas toast as well, but that might lack in refinement

:D

Decided to take a banana and orange to work from the fruit bowl on the island - will find a use for each of them I am certain. Also have plans for another avocado tonight as they are at their peak of ripeness.

Have a wonderful day my fellow Journalers, or as I like to say -

Happy NCIS Day......

Now you've gone and done it - cornbread!

I LOVE cornbread. The problem is if I make it for just me and my husband, he will eat one piece. I will eat the rest

I am craving ham and beans (great northern) with chopped onions and a couple hunks of cornbread. Oh yes, I am.

But in the meantime, for breakfast I had one of the 20 gm chocolate chip protein bars with hot green tea and lemon, very yummy. Like it better than the peanut butter kind that I often eat.

Lunch was my orange peeled into segments then chopped - and some thin stick pretzels. Had clients in the office for several hours doing trip prep and it was too cold and rainy to go outside so I didn't put together a composed plate of food like I enjoy doing so a couple hours later I had a Greek yogurt (Dannon Light 'n Fit blueberry). Was going to eat my banana, spread with peanut butter and dipped in flax seeds but was not hungry for that. I shall leave it at work for tomorrow.

Added a mozzarella cheese stick and a boiled egg to my after lunch for added protein and now I feel great.

Plan to have a nice dinner, whatever it is will have avocado drop by for a visit.

Which it did, I added avocado slices and pineapple chunks to my giant dinner salad. Loved it all.

(and went by the store after work and got a ham chunk to make ham and beans and cornbread when I am off work this weekend.) 8)

Morning all, Happy Wednesday!

At work, eating my banana spread with peanut butter but alas, there are no flaxseeds here - I shall have to buy some at lunch. The peanut butter expired Dec 2013 but I like to live on the edge  Note to self, buy more peanut butter as well. Luckily the jar is almost empty.

Drinking Lipton red gogi berry and raspberry green tea. Not even sure what a gogi berry is but the tea is yummy.

Late lunch of one of the Progresso Light soups - Southwestern black bean vegetable or something like that (beans, carrots, tomatoes, corn, spicy broth, etc.), pretzels and cheese stick.

Couldn't decide what to eat for dinner (made hubby a taco salad but I wasn't into that and too tired and lazy to make my monster salad) - so I had some vanilla non fat yogurt with mandarin oranges stirred in. It was quite refreshing.

On to Thursday!

To your health,
Berry

Happy Thursday All,

Beautiful Spring day here - much nicer than it has been the last few days. It has been damp, windy, cold. Downright blustery !!!

Glad it is nice because I am off work and want to do some more clean up in the yard. Already fed the horses and picked up some sticks, etc. (We grow sticks as a cash crop here in the Ozarks) Second only to rocks.

Felt a little off last night, was afraid I was catching the virus going around but I feel better this morning. I always listen to my body and let it try to heal itself, thus I ate very lightly before bed.

Not sure what breakfast will be, probably Cheerios with 2pct milk and a banana - we need to use them up before they go bad. Seems like bananas go bad rather quickly anymore, doesn't it? And the last thing I need to do is bake some banana bread - trying to cut back on that type of thing. Just drinking some hot lemon water right now, just like my grandma did every morning.

Will definitely get in a lot of exercise today, both outdoors and in. I really miss it when I don't get some vigorous exercise so am looking forward to that.

Just did three miles of aerobic walking with Leslie Sansone. (video) I am a daily recreational walker but this is really a work out. Felt great. Probably won't' eat breakfast as I just don't feel like it, but do plan a nice fruit, veggie and protein filled lunch. I LOVE TO EXERCISE and I LOVE TO EAT - a necessary combo :D

Breakfast/lunch was a little cottage cheese with pineapple and a big salad.

Dinner was TWO spicy black bean veggie burgers topped with melted mozzarella cheese, salsa and avocado. No bread. And a banana spread with peanut butter and dipped in flax seed.

Also got in some heavy work on the exercise bike this afternoon.

All in all, a great day. Didn't get to do as much yard work as I had planned being it rained but that's okay as I did the laundry, dishes, vacuumed, etc. so I can do outside work later in the weekend.

On to Friday, to your health all.

Happy Friday fellow Journalers - today is my all day shopping/eating trip with friends. A weekly event for the past decade or so. We always have a lot of fun.

Won't eat breakfast before I leave but might try to get in the Leslie Sansone aerobic walk video. That was actually quite a little workout and a lot of fun.

Afternoon all - had a great day of shopping. Bought some more healthy food - a big bag of apples and a bigger bag of grapefruit as well as some more Pure Protein bars - (21 gm) got the chocolate/chocolate chip this time. They are very handy for work if I have a desk full of stuff to do, I can still eat one of them with some hot tea for breakfast.

Had a fun lunch at Burger King with my friends, I am SO proud of me, no diet soda yet again. Unsweetened tea. Had the veggie burger and the Satisfries - they were fine. I didn't see any difference in them and regular fries. The calorie count was still 340 or so for a medium serving (I don't really mess with calories too much but we were reading the nutritional handout while eating) However, it is the fat grams that one is saving. Luckily nobody got the angry burger, I think it is about 800 calories and 51, yes 51, grams of fat !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got extra lettuce and tomatoes with my burger so it was quite filling. And quite messy - I had about ten napkins spread about the table.

Ham and beans simmering on the stove so that and CORNBREAD  will be dinner tonight and probably tomorrow night.

Think I will do another session of the walk video, it really energized me this morning. And I bought a new pair of Sketchers today!

Made it through dinner with only one piece of cornbread. Which was plenty, one small bowl of beans. One ruby red grapefruit for dessert.

Did some more walk video and a vigorous bike ride.

Off to the bubble bath, another great day in the record books.

Bring on Saturday!

To your health all,
Berry

Morning all. Happy Saturday. It appears to be a sunny, pretty day but the last few days have fooled me so we shall see.

If it is nice, I will do some yard work. If it is not, I will just continue to say that I will do some yard work tomorrow - or the next day

Planning a day filled with healthy food and beverage choices combined with vigorous exercise.

Because I am worth it.

Did my power walk, then drank some hot lemon water and ate a breakfast of nonfat vanilla yogurt with a handful of Kashi Go Lean stirred in, half a chopped apple, flax seed and cinnamon.

Lunch was a small salad, made my husband bacon and french toast as he hadn't eaten anything but a protein bar for breakfast. He is still drinking the Ensure, Ensure clear juices, Pro Source liquid protein supplement, protein bars and high protein ice cream that the hospital loaded us up with when he was released.

Did at least two hours of hard outdoor work.

Dinner was one normal sized bowl of beans and ONE piece of cornbread.

Had another wonderful day, on to Sunday.

Happy Sunday All !

Did my powerwalk aerobic video first thing this morning to energize me. And it did ! Should be able to get in some more yard work today, might plant some sunflower and phlox seeds.

Breakfast was nonfat vanilla yogurt with a handful (literally) of Kashi Go Lean cereal, dried cranberries, chopped pecans, chopped apples, cinnamon and flax seed. Certainly a breakfast that lasts a long time as each bite has to be chewed - and chewed - and chewed. Tastes so crunchy and refreshing.

Lunch was a big, juicy, red grapefruit along with a couple of slices of apple spread with peanut butter that my husband couldn't finish. Both were great.

Got some of my flower seeds planted - spread some back into the woods for the wildlife to enjoy. Planted iris plants that way years ago, while dividing my beds, just threw them back there, they don't actually need any planting. Now there are hundreds.

Packaged up some heirloom hollyhock seeds for some friends who have requested them - the original seeds dated back to my great grandmother's garden. They are the original single petal variety, not the ruffled ones sold most often today. Both are lovely, the newer ones remind me more of carnations than hollyhocks.

Got in another session of aerobic power walking (this was 2 miles, this morning was 1) on my computer while watching the Cards play on tv - true multi tasking. It was a fun workout. I really like Leslie Sansone, Denise Austin is just a little too perky for me.

While the laundry was washing, I listened to some country music on the radio and did 45 mins on the exercise bike. Loved both. Then I made me a salad, a big salad.

I told my husband that I know why people just grab a bag of chips or cookies or something when they are hungry (which I was). Making a salad involved, washing and tearing the red oak lettuce into bite sized pieces, chopping a chunk of cucumber, chopping up a boiled egg, slicing black olives, halving grape tomatoes, grating some cheddar cheese, then opening and adding Texas toast croutons and onion lemon pepper crisps. adding some pineapple chunks along with getting out the pomegranate vinegar. Worked up even more of an appetite making the salad :D It was, of course, great. Ate half, will eat the rest a bit at a time until dinner - making the husband a small salad, oven baked tilapia and broccoli/cauliflower pieces (I shall eat a few bites of the latter probably.)

Then wrap up yet another wonderful day in the Ozarks,

Bring on Monday, back to work.

Happy Monday Journalers!

Let's see, drank a couple cups of coffee with French vanilla creamer before I came to work, drank hot lemon tea and ate a 21 gr protein chocolate bar for breakfast. Went for a vigorous walk at lunch, then stopped in Dollar General and looked around. Saw a can of seasoned butter beans that was calling my name saying, I am a dollar, try me. So I did. Am eating them right now and they are yummy. Had intended to go next door to Subway and get a Veggie Delite but that can be for another day.

Only one in the office today so I used the huge conference table to work on medical paperwork  Needed every square inch.

Had some pretzel sticks and an orange mid-afternoon.

Dinner for both of us was a rustic homemade pizza topped with tons of caramelized veggies, olives, mushrooms and fresh herbs. We both loved it.

Bring on Tuesday!

Happy Tuesday!

Cool but sunny with blue skies. Will get in another great walk at lunchtime. Kinda have a headache this morning, feels like sinus pressure as it gets worse if I bend down to get something and then raise my head back up. Drinking hot lemon ginger tea, that fixes about everything

Think I ate too much salt yesterday, the beans which I heavily salted, the pretzels and then pizza last night. Feel a bit puffy so will watch it today. I actually have hypotension so have been advised to eat as much salt as I want but it does tend to bother me if I overdo.

Breakfast was nonfat vanilla yogurt, Kashi Go Lean, chopped apple, cinnamon and flax seeds!

Too cold and rainy to walk, hope to get in some exercise tonight. Lunch is one of the Steamables from Green Giant - roasted veggies (potatoes, sugar snap peas and red peppers - in a herb/olive oil sauce. Very good, first time I have tried it - certainly is warming me up on this dreary day.

Had a grapefruit and protein bar a bit later as I was getting awfully sleepy........

Had two pieces of leftover pizza and a salad (with chunks of peaches in it ) for dinner. Got in a little exercise, not as much as I am able to do on my days off work but hopefully it will be a sunny, warm day tomorrow and I can walk at lunch.

Ready for Wednesday,

to your health all.

Oh, Berry! I have been trying to catch up on missed threads after a long absence on my part, and just caught up with yours. What an ordeal you and your husband have been through these past months! I am so glad to know that he is doing so much better now.
I am maintaining along, thankfully, and enjoying my family, my life and my food. This year has been somewhat stressful as I changed "hats" in my school from a collaborative/regular ed. English teacher to the school's reading specialist. Openings for middle school reading specialists don't come along very often and it's what I've always had in my heart to do, so I went for it - and here I am!
Glad you are still eating those wonderful sounding meals, working, and enjoying all your exercising! So good to catch up with an "old friend!"

Oh my gosh, how good to "see" you. Very happy things are going so well for you, how wonderful to be doing something that you have always had in your heart to do. I am sure you are doing a great job. It seems that everything in your life is going along smoothly, I am very happy to hear that.

Thanks for your good wishes, my husband had a check up today and his surgeon simply said, Wow. He is healing even better than they had hoped for and I am very grateful - but certainly never grateful enough for all the blessings in my life.

Good friends like you among them. So happy to see your post. Now I am dashing over to your thread to see what's up.... :D

Thank you both so very much, I really appreciate the kindness we are shown.

Noel, I went to your link yesterday and ending up reading your blog for a long, long time. You are such an interesting person in so many areas of your life. Keep it up!

Breakfast today was a protein bar and tea - spilled the tea all over my paycheck and message pad  Luckily the bank cashed it anyway as they are next door to the office and know they are good for it. haha... It was just slightly smeared, but legible. Sorta....

Didn't eat anything else until about three, busy busy busy. Today is my Friday as I only work part time so I always leave things cleaned up for the week before I leave. Ate a Greek low fat blueberry yogurt, cheese stick and pretzel thins for lunch with ice water. It was enough to hold me until dinner time.

Had a nice walk at lunch time, up and down a lot of hilly neighborhoods - good for the legs. Close to 70 with blue skies and bright sun. Loved it.

Wasn't hungry for dinner so just used the time to work out really really hard on the exercise bike. Now it is time for a hot bath, a good book and tv with the hubby.

Off to Thursday - shopping and eating day with friends

Gosh, how nice to see you all stop by for a visit. Thank you very much.

Today was a fun busy day. It was very warm, low 80s but felt great. Went out with friends for a few hours of shopping and roaming around the stores. Ate at Wendy's, ate the small chili and iced tea. It was fine.

Dinner will be a salad. I got LOTS of yummy fruits and veggies today and lots of great yogurts and protein bars and stuff. I love good food. :P

Ready to hit the exercise room for a while before I relax before bed.

Thanks again for your kind words,

On to Friday, to your health all,

Happy Friday - another beautiful day on the horizon.
Already walked around the yard checking on my flower beds, everything is gorgeous. Bought two new windsocks yesterday and they look so pretty, put out the flag and it is proud to be flying over this farm :D

Cannot wait until the bedding plants are out and I can hang all my baskets and fill my planters.

Came in and did the two mile Leslie Sansone power walk and now I feel great!

I just love life in general and am happy happy happy! Hope the same for each of my fellow journalers.

Breakfast was pancakes, bacon, and pomegranate juice for my husband, chopped up grapefruit and orange sprinkled with cinnamon and flax seeds for me Drinking coffee with french vanilla creamer.

No lunch, got in another 3 hours of power walking video, also did about an hour of strenuous yard work, raking up debris and piking it up, carrying it to a brush pile - repeat - repeat - repeat !

Dinner was a big salad for me, made mini tacos, taquitos, mozzarella sticks and sliced avocado - with salsa and sour cream on the side - for my husband. I was too stuffed from my salad to eat anything more than one slice of his avocado and one mozzarella stick.

Drank unsweetened iced tea and water all day, haven't had a diet soda in several weeks. Don't plan to. I can do this !!!

Had a great day, love that I am able to get more exercise on my days off. Also got a lot of housework done as well. So, bring on Saturday :D

Happy Saturday All !

Ready for another great day. Tried on a lot of summer clothes early this morning and everything just slipped right on, I can tell all the exercise is paying off.

For breakfast, I took a large red grapefruit and large orange - sliced them into rounds and arranged them overlapping like a pinwheel on a big dinner plate, then sprinkled it all with flax seed and cinnamon. Looked almost too pretty to eat, but I ate it :D (Less calories than a glazed donut if one were counting those)

Already got in my 3 mile Leslie Sansone power walk and will get in lots more exercise today. I get up very early, by five, - 7 days a week - so I have lots of "me" time. I am worth it.

Got in another two hours of power walking with Leslie this afternoon as well as yard work - weed eating

No lunch, it is going on six and I am just now resting from my day.

I made myself a salad consisting of baby spinach leaves, chopped cucumber, cubed avocado, sliced pear, halved cherry tomatoes, grated mozzarella cheese, tri color tortilla strips for color and crunch and pomegranate vinegar. So pretty. My husband said I should open a salad shop. I said, I am too busy making salads :D

Dinner a bit later will be spaghetti, no meat - ( will top mine with fresh salsa that my daughter-in-law gives me using herbs from their own garden - after it has been tossed around in some olive oil ) and a slice of garlic bread.

Then I will wind down for the day and be ready and anxious to embrace Sunday.

To your health all,
Berry

Happy Sunday All. Pouring rain, lightning, thunder here.

Should be a nice relaxing day indoors, that's fine by me. I am sore all over from weed eating.

Just did my two mile power walk tape, let's just say when she gets to the four minutes remaining mark and says, All right we will be slowing down now, I say.

Good :D

Had unexpected company last night, I whipped up a chocolate pudding Cool Whip confection for them but I didn't want any. Everybody else loved it.

Breakfast/brunch was notfat vanilla yogurt, a handful of frozen blueberries, flax seed and cinnamon. Very good.

No lunch, but got in some outside work after all. Also got in some time on the exercise bike, glider and Ab Coaster.

Dinner was a layered dish of white corn tortilla chips, melted nacho cheese, (chili with no beans - him, not me ) salsa, sour cream, sliced olives and avocados. Very, very filling.

We always have lots of avocados the week after I go shopping at Aldis (they have the BEST ones for 49 cents). Then it is a week or so before we have them again.

Had a great day, ready to head back to work tomorrow.

To your health all,

I may look into those walking tapes for when it gets in the triple digits here. Sounds fun!

Happy Monday, gloomy day here. It was 80 yesterday, it will be 23 tonight. Poor blooming flowers and trees

But, warming back up to the 70s in a few days.

Had a high protein peanut butter/chocolate chewy bar for breakfast with hot lemon ginger tea. Will cut up an apple, banana and orange and eat a bit later sprinkled with cinnamon and flax seed.

Had my cut up fruit for lunch, then a cheese stick and some pretzel thins. Drank some more hot tea and some hot lemon water.

Dinner was a nice, big, colorful salad.

Got in some exercise in the yard picking up sticks, lawn furniture, hummingbird feeders, etc. from last night's storm that blew through but not a whole lot. Luckily I get plenty on my four days off each week.

Ready for a long hot bath and then the season finale of Dallas. Mondays are my hardest day at work as I have Thursday and Friday work to catch up on as the other girl really only answers the phones, she doesn't draft documents or anything. But, I love love love my job !

Strawberry,
Is Dallas still on? Wasn't that show from the 80's? Is it some kind of a remake?

Hi - this is a TNT series, a continuation of the other series from the 80s, the main storylines revolve around John Ross and Christopher (JR and Bobby's sons) and today's modern energy needs - along with Sue Ellen still being a drunk and Bobby still whining and Cliff still scheming, etc. Some of the other old stars show up now and then so that makes it fun.

Lot of money and sex and back stabbing - all the good stuff in life :D

Thank you so much, Merry. When people say they don't like fruits or vegetables, it makes me so sad :( .

Last night I caramelized some red, green, yellow peppers, added some onions, a few mushrooms and black olives - added this filling to an omelet - topped with grated cheddar cheese - made some toast. It was so good!

Today for breakfast I had a peanut butter chocolate protein bar and hot lemon water, followed a bit later by a banana spread with peanut butter sprinkled with cinnamon and flax seed.

Ate a handful of pretzels midmorning for the salt effect, my blood pressure was about 100/50 this morning so I needed a boost. It worked.

Lunch mid afternoon was a cubed avocado, diagonally sliced mozzarella cheese stick and boiled egg cut into eighths. Sprinkled all with salt, pepper and a smattering of flax seed (Yes, I do love my flax seeds!). It was great and very filling.

Will probably eat a grapefruit before I go home then make a monster salad with red oak leaf lettuce, romaine hearts, baby spinach leaves, cucumbers, tomatoes, dried cranberries, lemon onion crisps - topped with strips of Morningstar farms grilled "chik'n" patty. Then drizzled with balsamic vinegar. Heck, I think Texas Toast croutons might stop by as well... My salads are so huge, about four inches high on a dinner plate. When I am out and they serve a "dinner salad", I just

Got in a very brisk walk today at lunch. Thought it was too cold and windy but once I got going, it was okay. Felt good to breathe the fresh Spring air. Yesterday morning set a record low here of 25 degrees.

Oh, and great news ! My husband got a wonderful report from the vascular wound care specialist on Tuesday. They took him off of the wound vac and he is almost off of home health. YAY !! I could not be prouder of him for the grace, strength and good humor he has shown throughout this ordeal.

Thank you all so very, very much. I am this happy :D The nurse told him today that he could start mowing on his John Deere if he only stayed out an hour at a time. He was happy to hear that.

Didn't eat breakfast today, went to a committee meeting that was scheduled at the last minute, for a non-profit group I volunteer with - my friends and I (who are also part of the volunteer group) had to postpone our trip to the tearoom. Will do that another time. Didn't eat at the meeting, they had steam table type food - fried chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, etc. with dinner rolls, and lemon cake - nothing I wanted to eat.

So, I drank a couple glasses of unsweetened tea there then when I came home I made a small (hard for me to do) salad and ate it with a cut up grapefruit.

Think I will make pizza for dinner, that sounds yummy. Also need to get in some exercise. NOW !

Got in my two mile aerobic power walk video and about 45 mins vigorous biking. Did indeed make pizza and it was great. Have some visitors coming over from church,

bring on Friday, I 'm ready :P

Hello Friday - here I am

Beautiful, beautiful day here in the Ozarks. I plan to do some yard work today, picking up stuff on the property before we mow (we maintain several acres as "yard", flower beds, etc. so there is always something to pick up.)

Ate strawberry/banana nonfat yogurt for breakfast with a handful of Kashi Go Lean, chopped apple and pecans, cinnamon and flax seed.

Wishing all a healthy, fun filled day.

Got in a LOT of very hard yardwork today, was really exhausted when I took a break. Ate a small bit of salad, an orange, and some pretzels for lunch, dinner will be the rest of the salad, leftover pizza for me (shrimp for him) and oven baked onion rings. Nothing to drink today but coffee this morning and then cold water all day (we have two spring fed wells on the property so the water is always great.)

Did manage to summon enough strength to do my two mile power walk tape and I am glad I did. Would have been easy to say no.

More yard work planned for tomorrow..
:D

To your health all,
Berry

Happy Saturday!

Great, great day around here. My husband got to mow the yard on his beloved John Deere this morning. He was very happy - and the yard looks great. He can only do 30 mins at a time, which is more than enough for right now.

I worked very hard in the yard as well so we are both taking a break.

Ate no breakfast, lunch was a taste test ramekin of the coconut cream filling for a pie I am baking for tomorrow. Our church has a big dinner following the morning services (all extended families are invited so over the years it has become where everybody has their Easter dinner - regardless of their church affiliation they are welcome to come after services there and share the meal and an afternoon of singing. ) Tomorrow will be our first day back since last October so it will be emotional for all.

The pudding/pie filling was wonderful, by the way :D Am also taking a pasta salad, the Suddenly Salad original that I add chopped tomatoes and cucumbers to along with some halved black olives. I then add a little pomegranate vinegar to the packet of seasoning and a little olive oil. Everybody seems to enjoy it, they ask for it every year.

Ate the end of the leftover pizza and some pretzels mid afternoon. Am making breakfast for dinner - pancakes (or waffles, whichever he wants) and bacon for him and faux (Morningstar Farms) sausage for me). Maybe hash browns. That sounds good.

Happy Easter Sunday and Happy Monday !

Cannot believe the weekend is already over - and I always have four day weekends!

Had a wonderful day at church yesterday, quite emotional. I cried off and on for the first fifteen minutes, easily. Everybody was so happy to see us back and my husband doing so well. Then I dried my tears, enjoyed the service, and ate some yummy food. I had a spoonful of about six different sides like homemade noodles, cheesy potato casserole, fresh green beans, sweet potatoes, veggie lasagna and unsweetened tea. No dessert there although there were many. There were leftovers of the pie I took so I had a slice of it later in the evening, it was good. Will eat another slice tonight and it will be gone.

Speaking of unsweetened tea, somebody had poured me a cup of Diet Dr. Pepper and handed it to me as they know that is (was) my drink of choice. I gratefully accepted it and took a few drinks and immediately got the hiccups. So I quietly gave it to my husband and went and got some tea. My body said NO NO NO !!! to the diet soda.

Back to work today, it is raining lightly which is needed as there are lots of flower seeds and plants around here that will welcome a drink.

I did have a glass of white wine while enjoying my hot bubble bath. Worked very hard in the yard the last few days and my body hurt all over last night. But I feel great today !

Wishing all a healthy day.

Had a high protein chocolate/peanut butter bar and a grapefruit for breakfast. Think I will have some of the good butter beans I got at Dollar General last week (if they still have them, I shall take my lunch walk up there and see - and some pretzels at lunch.) That will give me some salt.

That's funny about getting the hiccups when you had the diet soda! Immediate body rejection. ;)

Hello all, I so love it when visitors stop by. And thanks for all the kind words for me and my husband. It was funny about the diet soda that my body said NO, I do not want all of those carbonated bubbles right now !

Doing great, have been "doing" something nonstop the last few days. Bought my bedding plants yesterday while out shopping with friends and got everything planted. The seeds I planted last week have all sprouted so everyday I get to check on them and encourage their growth :D

Been eating pretty "clean", made homemade lasagna Thursday night and will be eating it off an on the next couple of days. One small square, one slice of garlic toast - big salad. Stocked up on lots of fruits, veggies, protein bars (have to have the ones that are at least 20 gm or more) Greek yogurt - I bought Aldi's brand this week to give it a try - cottage cheese, pretzels, eggs, cheese, lots of goodies to see me through the week.

Hope everybody is doing well, I need to step up the exercise program this weekend as I have been a bit lax, getting most from yard work and walking the past week or so.

Think I will have Honey Nut Cheerios, 2pct milk and banana - sprinkled with cinnamon and flax seed for breakfast.

Ahh, time to rest. Got in a lot of yard work (and house work) this morning. But now it is almost one o'clock and time for a break. Would have been easy to grab something quickly that might not have been the wisest choice but I took the time to make a spinach, endive, sectioned red grapefruit, sliced boiled egg, chopped cucumber salad topped with red wine vinegar and flax seed. Tasted great - shall watch tv a while and then hit the exercise bike.

I really can see how difficult it must be for those so tired and so busy to just grab anything, cookies - chips - candy - a sandwich of lunch meat - anything to get food into their bodies or their children. I have the luxury of doing what I want when I want and eating what I want (unless we have family dinners, etc.) Last night I made my husband breaded pork cutlets, mashed potatoes and green beans. I ate a salad. We both were happy. I admit to being very selfish about "me". I take care of others but I don't neglect my food time, exercise time, bubble baths, etc. I love me and want to take good care of me so I will be around a long, long time - to, naturally, take care of those I love. :D

Thank you very, very much Diligence. So happy to have you "on board". Please post more often, just join in and tell us how your day is going.

Happy Wednesday ! Everything is going great here, busy - busy - busy.

Last night I finished off the lasagna and had a big, big salad. My husband said "You will never finish all of that." I said, "Watch me". So he sat there eating his fried chicken and cole slaw (from the deli, I never fry chicken at home) - watching me eat my salad. He even stole some of it off my plate. :D

Been loving the Aldi's brand of Greek yogurt, very good! Today I think I will have the pineapple one with my protein bar and hot tea.

Yesterday I cut up a cucumber, apple and banana, put them on a plate and said - This has to be the plainest looking plate of food in the history of culinary arts. So I sprinkled it all with flax seeds and that helped a tiny bit. Today's plate will be chopped cucumbers, cubed boiled egg, black olives, cherry tomatoes and fresh orange pieces. That should be a bit more colorful !

Yesterday my boss and I were in the kitchen at the same time at work (we work out of an old, historic stone home). She was looking in the cabinets and said, Hey who put BUTTER BEANS in here? I said, Uh, that would be me. She said, I HATE butter beans. I said, Then I guess you won't be stealing them. YAY ! I love butter beans, they are very, very high in protein and fiber as well.

Been too windy, rainy and dreary to walk on my lunch hour, hope today will be a bit improved as I want to stroll up to the greenhouse/plant place and see what they are offering.

To your health all,
Berry

:D Thanks !

I did eat my butter beans yesterday at lunch, nice and hot with lots of salt and pepper. Yummy ! Only thing better would have been a big ole hunk of hot cornbread to go along with it.

Breakfast was black cherry greek nonfat yogurt and a protein bar with lemon ginger green tea.

Dinner was a big salad. All were very satisfying. I love good food!

Got in some exercise walking around yesterday, had company last night so I didn't get to hit the exercise room at home. But, we had a wonderful evening so it was more than worth it.

Off work today so I can get in my Leslie Sansone power walk video and some time on the equipment as well. Will probably do some yardwork as the weather seems like it is going to be very nice.

I am feeling strong 8)

Hope the same for each of you ! Happy Thursday !

Berry, I laughed at your post on Wed. when your husband told you you'd never eat that salad and your response was "Watch me!" I bought a huge bowl and roller/cutter like they use at Subway to make those delicious chopped salads so I could make my own at home. The first time I made one it ended up so huge that my husband said the same thing...only he was right! I ended up eating what I could, then taking it for lunch the next day and finishing it up the next evening! But I love those salads!
Love reading your posts too. Glad everything is going well for you and hubby!

Thanks so much, mimi. I love Subway salads and Veggie Delite subs as well. Luckily, the facility my husband was in had a fitness center and Subway attached to it !

Almost didn't find my thread, I have been away toooo long. Lots of stuff going on, I am usually too tired at night to even turn off the computer. Working hard at the office and really working hard in the yard and gardens. Not getting enough exercise on the machines - especially the AbCoaster Plus - but am getting in a lot of walking and outside activity.

Eating pretty good, glad to have the Mother's Day goodies (and several May birthdays) behind me. Behind me is probably where all the goodies ended up   Now I am back on track, hopefully. I threw out of last of a lemon pound cake I had made last week - gave it to the birds. We used it as the base for a strawberry shortcake and it was yummy!

I really feel better when I eat as clean as possible. I don't like to feel like I am "full", I like the feeling of being just a little empty.

Having some hot lemon tea right now, will have some homemade veggie chili and crackers for lunch and a big salad for dinner. Will take a nice long walk around town and see what is blooming in all the yards.

My very, very best to all.

Thank you very much as well. I truly am a very happy woman and very grateful. My husband should be removed from home health this Friday, then he will be transferred from the wound care hyperbaric clinic back to his surgeon - thus starting the process for the prosthetic and rehab with his new leg ! An exciting journey we are on - together.

Thank you very much ladies - I do love this board !

Ate as planned yesterday, walked four miles and saw such beautiful scenery.

At work right now, just ate a toasted cinnamon raisin bagel and am drinking coffee with half and half.

Plan to walk again today, will probably eat some yogurt at lunch before it expires as today is my last day of work until next Tuesday.

Planning another big veggie/fruit salad for dinner - various lettuces, chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, halved black olives, sliced boiled egg, fresh crisp green pepper rings, shredded cheddar cheese, garlic/cheese croutons and lemon pepper onion crisps, pomegranate red wine vinegar for drsing (because the fastest way to ruin a good salad is with a bad dressing) - think I will add sections of a fresh orange and sliced avocado to it tonight. For me, buying a lot of salad fixings is the best way to ensure that I eat well because I hate to waste fruits and veggies. I love to plan my salads, picture how pretty I can arrange everything on the plate and anticipate the meal!

To your health all,

Did get in my vigorous hour walk, beautiful breeze was blowing and the town is filled with lovely flowers in bloom. Came back and ate some pretzels as I know I needed some salt (hypotension) and drank a bit of diet Coke - being I went 8 weeks without it and proved I wasn't addicted. :D Don't really need it so I can certainly do without it. Then I ate two little cups of yogurt that I wanted to use up - an orange dreamsicle one and an apple turnover one. Both were refreshing and now I can restock the fridge next week.

Well, thank you for stopping by. I love kale but being in a very small town it isn't always available as lots of people are eating it now. Which, as Martha would say, is a "good thing".

Ate as planned last night, I love the whole process of making my huge salads. I use a big dinner plate so I can arrange everything and make it look pretty. Fruits and vegetables are such a gift to be enjoyed!

My son has a good friend in Australia, such a beautiful, beautiful place - so let me envy you.

But, I hear you about winter. I live in the Missouri Ozarks and we had a winter for the records books. Literally  Certainly makes us appreciate the rest of the year. I LOVE to walk around town. It is a little historic town so there is no traffic, I mean really no traffic, other than the one "main" street. So I can walk for an hour uninterrupted and get in a good workout

Happy Thursday All !

Cleaning out the fridge day, had cottage cheese and strawberries for breakfast,

shells in garlic cream sauce and peas for lunch (taken from a thread on the homepage of this board about depression era cooking - mixed them together and they were quite yummy. Enough left for another meal.)

Will have another giant salad tonight. :D

Going outside to do some work, even plan to hit the exercise room a bit later and do some biking and AbCoaster Plus work.

:D , going shopping for some more good food like strawberries and cottage cheese today.

Everything is going fine, pretty busy this time of year taking care of the yard and gardens, did a LOT of work last week cleaning out some stuff, donating, etc. Neither of us can stand clutter so I try to keep on top of things.

Exercise is going well, mainly outdoors right now. Still eating my hearty salads, almost time for the fresh tomatoes from the local Amish farms. I can make a meal of sliced tomatoes and sliced cucumbers - and often do

Thanks, eschano! I did get some beautiful strawberries yesterday, along with lots and lots of other goodies. Had honey nut Cheerios with half a banana (husband had the other half) and one huge sliced strawberry in it for breakfast. Very pretty, very yummy.

Had a sandwich and homemade cole slaw for lunch, large salad and two pieces of pizza for dinner.

Happy Saturday All,

I was just watching a morning talk show and there was a beautiful young woman on (Miss South Texas) who went from being size 24 and 230 pounds in high school to totally transforming herself. On to the Miss Texas and perhaps Miss American pageant.

She said she took all the cruel bullying about her weight as a challenge to do something, rather than wallow in pity.

She said, Real power comes from not letting someone else define who you are. She said rather than spending her life saying it didn't matter what people said about her, she changed what they were saying.

Very well said. I hate bullies but she decided that the fastest way to shut up somebody saying that she was fat was to no longer be fat.

She took back her power, I love it. :D

Hope everybody is healthy and happy today :D

Had a peach Greek yogurt for breakfast, haven't eaten anything else yet. Might have a cheese sandwich or something for lunch and then a big salad for dinner.

Looking forward to hitting the exercise room a bit later - will listen to the ball game so the time will fly.

And indeed it did. Got in almost an hour of intense biking and it felt great. Had my sandwich and a handful of chips for lunch. Will add some fruit to my salad tonight and call it a day!

Ate great, exercised, drank a lot of water - no junk, no diet soda. I am proud of me

On to Monday!

Happy Monday All.

Had a great day,

ate a peanut butter protein bar (21 gm) for breakfast with hot lemon water.

ate a Green Giant Steamables - cauliflower/broccoli/carrots in cheese sauce (whole bag 145 calories) - drank a Pink Lemonade Wylers to go (the little straw thing that goes in a bottle of water - 5 calories. Had never had it before, there was a pack in the office kitchen for me to try. I really liked it ! Will get some more for the larder when I go shopping again :D

Dinner is a - well, let's see - SALAD ! Just made it and am preparing to dive in.

Got in some exercise, will do a little more! Drank a LOT of water as well.
