Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: pizza, cucumber, red pepper, a kiwi and an apple
Dinner: some crisps (probably too many pringles), curry, rice, naan, samosa etc, a small piece of cake
It was our staff social, we had a buffet of Indian food so I'm going to count it as a non-weekend S day. I did dance a bit and use the (children's) outdoor gym equipment (in the dark) so went some way to "undoing" it. That's what teachers get up to in school in the evenings

Lunch: green lentils, bulgur wheat, tomatoes and pepper all cooked together and topped with seeds, followed by a kiwi
Snack: peanut butter and banana milkshake
Dinner: cheese sandwich, cucumber, an apple and a few cashew nuts
Almost a green s-day. This is what I was aiming for all along... The lunch sounds random, but it was surprisingly delicious. It did have a lot of herbs etc in it. Attempting something similar with red lentils and rice today but it's looking a lot more mushy...

Snack: a slice of pizza, a selection of small cakes
Snack an hour or so later: handful of cheesey puffy snack things
Urgh. Don't stick me outside policing an inflatable assault course full of overexcited 11-year olds on the first day of a heatwave for a couple of hours and expect me to say no to pizza. Or cake.
But now it's so hot and I'm still kinda but not really hungry. I got gifted some popcorn (random, but it came with a cinema gift card so it made sense) so that might be my dinner. After I've had a shower. Urgh, hot, tired, sweaty. One more day of school. Only a half day really. And I can stay inside in the air con tomorrow!
In reply to your lovely comments, I do love fruit and veg. Usually. When people don't wave cake in my face. And I bulk cook and freeze in individual portions to make life easier, so it's all much more lazy than it might sound!

Statred the holidays with a busy day helping my parents pack up their old house, then a spot of tidying my new classroom and finally an evening at the beach with a picnic. Considering it was the hottest day ever (in England, in July) I'm quite impressed with my own productivity. But I did only go into work because there's air con and it was much cooler by the sea! So I pretty much avoided the heat all day - no excuse to eat ice cream!

Your Wednesday "fail" sounds like a relatively harmless day. Well done! I totally agree that there are some days it's not worth trying to adhere to all the rules. That being said, you really did well! I'm starting to slobber reading about what you ate on Thursday as well. Is that weird? Maybe so.
Congratulations on being out for the summer! I hope you get some relief from the heat. Our big heat wave (so far this year) broke a couple of days ago, thank goodness, and now we're back to "only" high 80s F. Whew.

Oops, Wednesday was supposed to be a non - weekend S day, I'll edit the colour to a more yellow orange! And I just remembered I had more chocolate, I'll add that in too!
It was a really good picnic yesterday evening, if I say so myself.
Our heatwave was a short one. It was 34C (93F) here yesterday (it got up to 38 (100) further east) but today its 25ish (77) which is much more manageable.
Today has been a proper fail. I'm slightly annoyed with myself because I said no to the cake my friend offered me at around 4pm, came home, had dinner and then ate half a tube of pringles and a massive bar of chocolate. I think it was partly because my meals were all a bit small, so better avoid that in future!

Lunch: cous cous and bean salad (two left over salads mixed together), cheese puffs, an apple
Snack : three strawberries (I was going to count these as part of dinner at the time... But as I failed anyway I may as well confess properly)

Urgh. I should have had mango instead. So silly.

...for a moment I thought I was reading one of my own posts....the words ‘Pringles’ and ‘massive bar of chocolate’...
I sympathise, flying! it’s something I occasionally do...refuse a nice polite snack only to go home and have something worse. Tricky! Willpower does run down. On good days I can fight this using extra drinks. I’m trying to rebuild this very habit at the moment.

I think Octavia and I do both live in the south of England, so you might be right, automated. Next time I'm buying a tube of pringles, I'll give any likely candidates a knowing smile

Norway!! Yes! How fantastic! I'm particularly pleased that you got out of town ASAP after finishing school! It's great to get some physical separation for a bit to help the mind settle down and truly relax for the work-mode.

Holiday days are too long and full of lovely things to remember all the food. Or even what day of the week it is really
Yesterday was yellow; after my comment on the pervious post we were then presented with all kinds of Norwegian dishes including a lot of lovely fish and little pancakes with fresh blueberries in the afternoon.
Today was also yellow because there were chocolate brownies for pudding. But I did have a nectarine rather than an ice cream mid-afternoon. You win some, you lose some. Not even lose, I very much enjoyed my brownie!
Yesterday was yellow; after my comment on the pervious post we were then presented with all kinds of Norwegian dishes including a lot of lovely fish and little pancakes with fresh blueberries in the afternoon.

Oh holidays...
So I slightly lost track of what day it was and was way too busy relaxing, travelling, eating ice cream and generally having a lovely time. Lots of moving (did 40000+ steps one day) but also lots of food.
Buuut... It's September now, work starts on Tuesday, back to normal life.
To kick start myself into healthier habits I thought I'd set myself the challenge of having no sugar in September. So anything with sugar as an ingredient (apart from bread - I make it, it probably has less sugar than bought bread) was going to be a no go in September. Fruit etc still fine, just no chocolate etc at the weekends.
Well, it lasted until 12ish, when I completely forgot and had a biscuit after church. And then chocolate after lunch.
I told my housemate this tale, and she said "well, it's still the first of September, you can still start from now!"
So, with that advice, I'll try again from now! See if I can last longer than 12 hours.
Also, back to logging what I eat. It helps.

Six weeks of holiday are a definite teacher bonus. But it does make going back after the summer a bit of a shocker. At least we've got two days without children to ease ourselves back in.

Lunch: bread, cheese, crackers, slice of turkey, humus, crisps grapes and a plum
Dinner: fajitas with refried beans, veg, avocado and salad
Meals were probably a bit big but at least there were just three of them and there was no chocolate. Win.

my husband bought this new Dark chocolate peanut butter - a company called Fix and Fog. I haven't tried it yet but every time I see it in the pantry I think of my dear flyingpig.

Ha, amazing. Breakfast: a nectarine, a kiwi and a banana
Lunch: bean and tomato salad with tortilla crisps, mango
Snack: cashews
Dinner: trout fillet, noodles and broccoli (all soy sauce / sesame oil / garlic and gingery. Nom)
Great food today. Keeping up the no sugar in September thing made me have to be a bit more thoughtful with my snacking. Hopefully I'll remember tomorrow when the biscuits appear after church.

Kinda struggling with ways to make weekends S-y without sugar cos it turns out I'm not really into savoury snacks... was tempted not to do anything different to a weekday, but I don't want to give myself an excuse to cave mid week.

I think they have smoothies that are just fruit so that might be a compromise. Or just a cup of tea, but I don't want to put the youth off ordering whatever they want. We'll see...

You could order last so it won't effect them. I don't know the age of the youth but, if there are a lot of them, they are unlikely to notice what you order. A smaller group might notice but most likely will not care. A couple of other possibilities, depending on where you go, are steamed milk and flavored seltzer water.

Not sure how the ice cream social thing went - but I can promise you that if I order something sugar-free, my kids go right ahead and order whatever they want. maybe teenage girls are a little more impressionable, though.

I'm still hungry, even after my extra dinner. Not sure whether to have some yoghurt, or just distract myself with washing up.

Well, the downward slope that you may have seen starting continued, but I think I might have hit the bottom and be on the way up. Phew.
So the last week was competely red, and so was today, but my only S today was a kitkat at about 5:30pm. Considering the cake/chocolate/general junk quantities that have been consumed recently, one kitkat is a minor miracle.
Don't know what went so wrong... Perhaps it was trying to have no sugar at all, perhaps it was the start of the year, perhaps it was the old habits bursting through. I also think I haven't drunk enough water so should up that.
Onwards and (hopefully) upwards...

So I'll have to repeatedly remind myself that for the rest of the week.
At least my just woken up self had the wherewithal to grab some fruit so my lunch was reasonably healthy. The banana was going to be a quick breakfast but I left it in the car and only found it again when I went out to buy lunch.

I didn't have time to think about being hungry to be honest... I never am when I'm actually teaching but as soon as the kids leave the room, I'm ravenous.

Teaching keeps me energetic, but it doesn't block my hunger! I get sick to my stomach when I need to eat, which is very distracting while I'm teaching!

Yay to start of an academic year illness. Last year it was the three week cough, this year I have a fuzzy ear. It's weird and really annoying in a classroom full of noisy ten year olds. It started feeling blocked on Saturday and seens to have got progressively worse since then. I'm hoping it's just a virus (I do like to get one cold symptom at a time) but maybe I need to go to the Dr's...

I had a similar ear problem a couple of years ago, very disconcerting, it did eventually go.
I had my head over a bowl of steam Vix as one treatment.
Gentle nose blowing to try and pop it helped too. Perhaps get it checked out first though.

Oh, sorry! I also am dealing with a start of year cold, and yesterday I was swimming and one of my ears did a weird pop and then was hurting for awhile. Creator and I had a good time discussing the anatomy of the middle ear and how mucus plugs up the eustacian tube. That kid really puts up with his nerdy mom. BTW, he's 10. He could be in your class! If he were, he would CONSTANTLY raise his hand, offer to help with everything, be kind to his classmates but a little silly, and at recess would often play by himself which might worry you a tiny bit. But he's a sweet soul.

Well. Went for my second ever doctor's appointment as an adult (I am really healthy, that's why I moan so much I'm ill!). The doctor said the ear is just waxy and after using the ear drops my face has stopped tingling (I was feeling very strange on Tuesday) but still stressful in a noisy room as it still feels blocked. I'm dubious about wax being the only problem as they apparently both looked the same but only one ear feels funny. But I will dutifully follow the doctor's instructions. And keep trying to pop it by yawning / blowing my nose /having steamy showers.
Automated, I would love to have Creator in my class - he sounds awesome.

Yikes! That’s happened to me twice. Really miserable but they should be able to get the wax out for you. I went to a specialist both times & the relief was immediate! GL!

Unfortunately in my month or two of eating way too much sugar, I've given myself toothache. Good time to get back on the wagon, and I'll be off to the dentist tomorrow
In more positive news, I went for a run this morning. Out in the dark and damp at 6am.. Can't honestly say I enjoyed it but I think two 8 minute blocks of running at that time of day is quite an achievement for this very unfit person.

Dinner: sausage, bacon and egg sandwich, vegetable crisps, orange and mango smoothie
Snack: 2 chocolate mini rolls
Such a silly way to fail, especially as I then feel asleep about half an hour later. I was clearly tired, a bit annoyed at myself for buying dinner on the way home and thought mini rolls were the answer... Oh well, there have been more disastrous red days.

I started this week fully prepared to be green, but by 5pm when I'd watched people eat amazing looking cake at lunch time, sat in a staffroom full of gingerbread (my fault - I baked it and brought it in, needed to check a recipe I'm using with the children) and then had an hour long meeting with the headteacher that was very productive but also brain - frying, my resolve had somewhat weakened. So when I sat down to fill in a boring form next to a box of chocolate gingerbread matchmakers (a type of long think stick - like cookies), i ate them. And then the biscuit floodgates opened.

Well, it's been a while.
Firstly, a late Merry Christmas and a punctual happy new year to you all! Hope you've all enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to 2020.
I spent December getting into terrible food habits so now it's time to go cold turkey (well, today's turkey was hot...). Went OK today, but there are still a lot of festive snack options around to avoid.
I also might do Vegan-uary once I get home (I'm at my parents at the mo and it wouldn't be fair to launch a new dietary requirement at my mum with no notice), mostly to stop myself eating all my Christmas chocolate in the first weekend in January. I'll just eat it in the first weekend in February instead...
In non - food news I have (yet again) resolved to do more exercise. Been jogging twice so far this week and hoping to go again tomorrow. Its easier when the views are amazing and the trail straight and flat (my parents live in a national park). Let's see if I'll be able to keep it up when I have to get up early for work and only have boring suburbia to run (at a snails pace) through. I would really like to be able to do park run, but at the moment I'd feel too self - conscious about how slow I am.

In non - food news I have (yet again) resolved to do more exercise. Been jogging twice so far this week and hoping to go again tomorrow. Its easier when the views are amazing and the trail straight and flat (my parents live in a national park). Let's see if I'll be able to keep it up when I have to get up early for work and only have boring suburbia to run (at a snails pace) through. I would really like to be able to do park run, but at the moment I'd feel too self - conscious about how slow I am.

Thursday 2nd January
Breakfast: porridge with banana, peanut butter and cinnamon
Lunch: various curries, Indian snacks (samosas etc), rice and naan. Plus more naan. And then some extra naan. Did I mention the naan?
Dinner (sort of): queen of puddings (it's breadcrumby custard topped with jam and meringue- sugary, creamy deliciousness) with ice cream. And then more ice cream. And then some crackers because it was all just too sweet. Followed by some chocolate, to get back on the sweet bandwagon. Then a couple of bits of fresh bread. Because clearly I had not eaten enough.
Snack: (yes really) Christmas cake
Well that was a fail and a half. I knew it was going to be a bit tricky because we had lots of visitors. My mum has planned lunch at around 1pm, then a walk, then dessert at around 4:30pm. It's the only way there's time to get outside with a big group of people in these dark winter days, but turns out it's a recipe for disaster for me. I should have thought more carefully about how I was going to deal with being faced with a tray of meringuey goodness.
I also didn't go jogging because staying in bed and then in my PJs till the last possible minute was way more appealing. Maybe I'll get up tomorrow...
Oh well, just a couple of visitors tomorrow and I think they're just coming for lunch with no walk planned so I can say no to pudding. And then it'll be the weekend and then I'll be going home and regaining compete control of what food is available.

I started off the day thinking it was Saturday. Definitely still in holiday mode! Then I was in S-day mode (decided to have apple crumble because there were visitors and... well... holiday mode) but then I had seconds of pudding and then I just lost track.
I probably shouldn't have tried while still at my parents' with food everywhere.
On the plus side, I went for jog this morning, all by myself. Had a marvellous time. Might try again tomorrow.

Saturday and Sunday
Another marvellous run on Saturday, and then one this morning. I've probably doubled the total times I've been for a run in my life in the last week. This morning's was a bit less marvellous as I'm now back home in boring suburbia running along pavements rather than in a national park. My parents have a disused railway line near them so it's nice and flat and very scenic. But at least at home I can just run straight out the door (if you did that at my parents you'd either be going up a steep, muddy hill or along a fast road with no pavements).
Eating going well so far today, but it is only lunchtime... Back at work although I'm at a training day so very sedentary. Must stay awake this afternoon!

Lunch: chickpea and bulgur wheat salad, an apple, a little orange
Dinner: pea risotto. It also had cannellini beans and lots of onion in it.
Boom. Back to work. Back to routine.
Today was also vegan, so perhaps Veganuary is still a possibility. I'm mostly curious to see if I can do it, particularly if I don't use any dairy alternatives. Black tea is a bit blurgh, but I guess I'll get used to it or find another drink I prefer.
... I do have a lot of butter in the fridge though.

Veganuary sound so good! I didn’t want to do it the same month I started NoS but I like vegan food.
I drink black tea with a squeeze of lemon. It makes it taste much better. (A continental thing I believe).

First day teaching. That was hard work! And my legs ache - two early morning jogs in a row is tough! But I've told my class I'm going again tomorrow so let's see if I can make it three. I can't lie to a group of ten year olds so I'm hoping they'll hold me accountable
Teammoney- I eat mostly vegetarian food anyway, especially when I'm cooking for myself, but I thought vegan added an extra challenge.
I get what you mean about not wanting to start too many things at once though. I know I haven't been the best at no-s recently but I'm hoping that I know the drill well enough by now that adding vegan - ness in isn't going to be impossible.
I'll try the tea with lemon. I used to add half a teaspoon of sugar when I lived in countries where milk was not readily offered with tea, but that's not a habit I want to get into!
