I have lost over a stone following No's and a little IF. Don't think of it as a diet though. It's a journey to better eating habits that help you lose and maintain

Re: Who is losing weight doing No S?
Most people have moved to the individual check-in threads. I started No s over eleven years ago. It took me a few years- being impatient had never led to maintenance- and I got into my normal BMI range by losing 40 lbs., though achieving orderly eating was much more important to me. As I got older, I experimented with the structure because of changing concerns. I've lost a little more.
The odds are very much against getting media thin no matter what you do unless you have been naturally slim in your early years. For everyone who does it, there are likely literally a couple of thousand who don't. But that is a terrible reason not to learn to manage the onslaught of real food and food-like substances we are exposed to every day. I am convinced that sticking to a few plates of good quality food most days of the year is most people''s best bet for pleasure and vitality. (If you have a compromising health condition, it merits more limitations.) But it takes more than a few weeks and really more than a few months to rewire the brain and get established and be something someone does day after day, year after year. Only cultures with either severe shortages or cultural habits of pleasurable limitation stay slim. We have to find our own pleasurable limitation. If you must, exhaust all the other possibilities so that you either don't need this or you see that it's the most sustainable choice you have.

Re: Who is losing weight doing No S?
I don't know yet because I'm only about two weeks into it and my weight changes could easily be attributed to normal variations in a weight maintenance mode. However, I am confident that I will lose weight doing this because I am eating less. As I'm learning to re-learn the habit of not snacking, I'm passing up all this food that I would have previously eaten. All that adds up.
No-S Lifestyle (~Don't Eat Like An Idiot Diet) and re-learning how to eat like a normal person after failing post calorie counting. More than half a year of that sent me diving face first into a giant slice of cheese cake and ultimately fat again.

What did you decide to do, mustloseweight? If you really must lose weight, I hope you find something you can completely surrender to, even if it isn't No S. Of if you can't find something that seems surefire AND sustainable to lose weight on, at least commit to replacing more of the low-nutrient foods that are par in our culture with higher nutrient food which is ultimately more satiating and can allow your body to lower its setpoint. Good luck and you are always welcome!

Re: Who is losing weight doing No S?
I would like to send you some gentle encouragement as well. It is hard to pull oneself out of that dreadful tangle of overeating and desperate anxiety.
Getting good eating habits established and therefore losing weight can be done in baby steps.
Can I suggest that you try just one ridiculously simple and easy thing today, whatever it might be. Write it down in your diary when you have accomplished it . Give yourself a pat on the back. Tomorrow do that same thing again .
In a week's time look back and give yourself another pat. Don't worry if you have missed a day or three. The aim is
to reduce anxiety while still moving forward.
When you feel comfortable that your new habit is established, add another thing that is easy.
When I am faced with a big task I start with that one small step. Somehow it just changes my mindset and propels me forward. I also use the gradual approach to get my fitness back after a break. Learning to eat moderately has been a long process, and was done in a number of steps. It is not over yet. But I have come a long way and I believe you can too.
Be kind to yourself, Ladybird.

Three meals a day - not too little not too much, but just right

Excellent advice from Ladybird. Remember it is a journey and you will occasionally step backwards but as long as you make incremental moves in the right direction you will be fine.

Re: Who is losing weight doing No S?
After the first year of the pandemic I realized that I had 20 lbs to lose. I decided to work on one pound a month - I'm down my 20 and it has been a ride of realizing where my mind goes to make a bargain with myself to just eat. It is insane on how your mind can override your body.
I liked the advice given a few posts ago that said when it gets hard to make a decision and muscle through it in order to strengthen your natural response to eating crazy. (Not the exact words, but that is what I got out of it).
I'm back on this site because I want to get back to three meals a day. I had been skipping breakfast and then eating lunch, snacks and dinner. NOS was great when I did it a few years ago.

Re: Who is losing weight doing No S?
Guess what! Mustloseweight and I met up in England in August! I was getting ready for a short performance in As You Like It and she drove a few hours to Leamington Spa, a city less than an hour from Stratford, to place it for those who might know, to have lunch and gab, gab, gab. Although she did have a period of non-compliance, she has since we first communicated by phone in May had many, many weeks of compliance with modest weight loss. (You can't lose weight permanently unless you have a plan you can stick to.) She has also instituted a consistent walking program, too. This she says she has not done for years. It was such a delight to meet someone in person whom I had known only online or by phone, and especially to meet THIS particular person. There is so much more to her than this issue! She has met many challenges and remains a delight to talk to. I didn't tell her this but I think she could do stand up. I'm confident that as time goes on I can help her tweak her meal structure and content to find the right plan and weight for the long run. I'm on her side!
