Hello to everyone! I made it!

Hi, my name is Michelle and I am blind, so... I had a little trouble getting on for one reason or another, but I am here now and excited about this diet. Well honestly I am not doing so hot on it lately. I have days where I do great, and days where I don't so I really haven't lost any weight and in fact gained several pounds just because... I was probably a real idiot more times than I wasn't, and because I'm a woman... and because I don't drink enough water... and because for the past few weeks I haven't been exercising like I should. All my fault. Well most of it. I am right now 228. Something like that. But I can't seem todrop below 220. So anyway, I'm pushing forward one day at a time. I have failed today but I will just start now this minute like it's a whole new day. no more snacking. Yesterday was an S day because i was visiting with my sister who I don't see very often. Anyway, I visited a forum for a diet I tried for like, uh five minutes, and sure enough, I found a lot of starving people who were *very* excited about getting an extra half a protien. Ug. I couldn't handle that kind of stuff. Glad I didn't do LA weight loss. So anyway, I am 35 and have two kids and right now, I'm supposed to be cleaning or something but I've been goofing off in stead. Anyway, thanks to reinheart for his patience. I have an idea though. I think the no snacks rule should be tweaked to no snacks except sometimes with groups that start with f and v. But then maybe that would not work so well. I guess I've found especially in the middle of the morning I get really hungry so that's why I was thinking that way. In other words, no snacks except for fruit and veggies, but I would think they would have to be raw, not only because they are better for you but honestly, you don't have to do anything to them. So that's my thought. Reinhart, if I messed up your system with my idea, forgive me. I actually like it the way it is. But it might help to have that clause so that when my personal midnight snack demon attacks, I have a little tiny loophole. Peach good, peach pie... bad. Carots good, peanut butter, bad. Know what I mean? Strawberries good, strawberry shortcake bad. Ok, so anyway, I'm really going now. I have done all I want with the computer for today. Now I'm off to get ready for my work and find batteries for my head phones so that I can dance around and listen to music wirelessly with my xm radio.

Hi Shell!
I think it's amazing and wonderful that you are here!!!
I am curious how you go about posting and reading these posts..
Do you have a friend helping you or is your computer so state of the art that it does it for you?
I'm curious, so sorry if I sound even the slightest bit uncool...
Keep trying, and slay demons when you can!
Have fun dancing up a storm!!!
That is something we all should do every day!
Have a nice weekend!
Peace and Love,
Deb
ps.. Your post really made me giggle and was very cute!

Hi Pngelsu and greatful deb. Thanks for the encouragement, and I'm glad that I could make you laugh or giggle or smile. As to Grateful deb's question, well, you see, I am psychic. I can sense the energy of the monitor and the pulses that make the letters and words and pictures and colors. I didn't want to shell out money for expensive high priced synthesizers to do the work, so I trained and honed my psychic ability. Ok, I am sorry, I am being silly. I do welcome questions because education beats ignorance every time. So I will seriously answer your questions now.
I have no psychic abilities other than the ability to physically feel the energy of others. It doesn't lead me to any astounding revelations other than whether someone is sad or angry or whether they are tired or happy. Other than that, my abiliby to read your messages is strictly due to technology. I have a program inside my computer that makes the printed words into spoken words. I can even scan and read books. Not that I have time for that. But I can! I have been playing around witht he internet for a whilefor quite a while now and so i've been asked that question a lot. Some programs speak better than others. I don't have the technology yet, for instance to read music on my computer. It's out there but I just don't have the time for it. I just blue $110 on a trumpet on ebay just because. I don't often do stuff like that. Unless you count the ID mate which is very expensive and is a bar code device which helps you to read and identify packages and cans, etc. But that wasn't really so much an impulse buy as a blind people technology buy. The technology of blind people is very expensive. As for my head phones and satelite issue, I couldn't get it to work. I am not sure exactly what died. I suspect that there is eigher a short in the jack or a short in the y splitter that I use to control my headphones.

Hi Shell :)
I too am psychic! Ha ha!!! LOL...
Cool coincidence eh?

Thanks for the info.
Yet again, I was giggling in my computer chair reading your response!
I am astounded at the amazing possibilities of technology!
Sorry it's so pricey though.. I guess it's worth it!
Good luck with your trumpet!
That's a worthwhile thing to buy, "Just because"!

Have a nice weekend :)
Peace and Love,
8) Deb

Hi Mommashell and welcome! You are one funny lady! I'm glad you didn't do LA weight loss either, who needs to follow complicated rules plus starve while you're doing it? It wouldn't work for me, when I starve I can't think, and when I can't think I can't figure out the complicated diet rules!

As to the fruits and veg idea for snacks, with No S you can do "virtual plating". That means if you have an apple for a snack, then at your next meal you virtually (in your head) plate that apple so it takes up the space on your plate that it would take if you were actually eating it at that meal. Or you could simply take a small portion from the meal you're eating, and save it to snack on later. Sometimes I'll save 1/4 of a sandwich from lunch to eat at 4 pm when I feel hungry again. Either way you're still sticking to 3 plates/meals per day in terms of the amount of food you're eating.

I'm looking forward to hearing more from you on the No S boards. I'm definitely with Deb, I was chuckling and giggling all through your posts. I'm sure you can feel how happy I am right now!!!

Welcome!

Hi to deb and the person with the funny name.

Post by mommashell » Sat Jun 17, 2006 4:17 am

w :? Sorry person with funny name, I can't remember your name. I feel crappy and it's only gotten worse as the day has progressed. But I do remember your post and I wanted to respond to it. I guess the "plating is something I don't really do. I.E. trying to actually fit everything on a plate. I mean I guess I do it but I don't really think about doing it. For instance, if I have a bowl of oatmeal and some toast, I don't try to squish the oatmeal on the plate or whatever. I guess I should make a more concerted effort especially on days when I don't feel really inclined to eat healthy healthy stuff... like today... because I felt so yucky. Having said that I'll have to think through that virtual plating stuff before I really get it. It's a bit confusing right now. I did good in some aspects of no s and bad in others today. I went most of the day without snacking but ate a really unhealthy lunch. Well, it wasn't that bad, but a little heavy on starch. I mean when you pop a bag of microwave popcorn and eat most of it... well... so I have learned that I will not be doing popcorn. Wheat thins apparently are also something I have to be careful of. But I had some nice cheese and strawberries too. Again this is one instance where I didn't plate and should have. But at dinner I made this fantastic soup which I will post the recipe for in another post, and I really really wanted seconds but I remembered No S and didn't have seconds. Then later I got to thinking that if my dinner had been on a dinner plate I might have had space for a piece of fruit so I had a mango. Yum. Ok, Whew. I thought I was really going to be mad at the computer but everything is cool now. I really need a better virus program. I don't like macaffee. It will sit there and tell me that there is a web update available but it won't just come right out and tell me. Instead, it makes the text not work properly so I can't see what I am typing. Hey no pun intended... and make me go into Jaws cursor, which is to say, in sighted people terms, move around with the mouse, even though I'm not using a physical mouse, and not show in my uh, you know, where you alt tab to the different programs. So anyway this little whispering thing was telling me that I had a web update available and would I like to update now or continue what I was doing. So whew. I fixed it and can see what I'm typing and correct for errors. Maybe that is why you guys thought I was so funny before. So anyway, I'm not very good at message bords. Honestly an email list would be better, but then it would probably generate more spam. So anyway, Wally bought me some reece's peanut butter cups. The mini ones. And I had a few of them. It was a small bag and I had maybe five or six and put the rest in the fridge. I know, I know, it was sweets but I feel so nasty I am kind of achy and stuffy and if I move around too much I start sneezing. On a scale of one to ten it's like a five as colds go. I can still move around, cook, feel mostly human but it's kind of a pesty cold. Know what I mean, this cold is like the kid who is sitting behind you on the bus going "I'm not touching you!!" So anyway, now I have talked about lots of things and some of them don't have a darned thing to do with no s. So ok. I'm going to stop for now. Recipe is forth coming.

Sick days are free days according to Reinhard. I don't know if that includes Reeses peanut butter cups but sick days are s days.
Computers are a blessing and a curse most times. Wouldn't want to live without one but we curse at ours a lot.
We had McCafee for several years until my daughter who is a computer geek told us about a free program called AVG. They have programs you can buy and a free edition. We have had the free edition for about 6 monthes now and I love it. Updates are easy and it seems to block more pop ups etc than before. She used to date a guy who fixed computers for a living and he put her on to it.
Hope you enjoyed those peanut butter cups on the weekend and can now move on to Monday.
By the way, I can't keep corn chips, peanuts or chocolate around on S days. Just way too tempting. I usually toss what is left on Sunday nights to make Monday easier. Have a good week.
