Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: pizza, cucumber, red pepper, a kiwi and an apple
Dinner: some crisps (probably too many pringles), curry, rice, naan, samosa etc, a small piece of cake

It was our staff social, we had a buffet of Indian food so I'm going to count it as a non-weekend S day. I did dance a bit and use the (children's) outdoor gym equipment (in the dark) so went some way to "undoing" it. That's what teachers get up to in school in the evenings :P

Saturday
Breakfast: pain au chocolat
Lunch: green lentils, bulgur wheat, tomatoes and pepper all cooked together and topped with seeds, followed by a kiwi
Snack: peanut butter and banana milkshake
Dinner: cheese sandwich, cucumber, an apple and a few cashew nuts

Almost a green s-day. This is what I was aiming for all along... The lunch sounds random, but it was surprisingly delicious. It did have a lot of herbs etc in it. Attempting something similar with red lentils and rice today but it's looking a lot more mushy...

Sunday
Breakfast: peanut butter and jam on toast
Snack: digestive biscuit
Lunch: red lentils, a little brown rice, a tomato and some red pepper in a kind of soup concoction. Not as good as the green lentils... But not bad.
Snack: a small packet of chocolate buttons
Dinner: flatbreads (they were supposed to be wraps but I've yet to master a homemade tortilla wrap) with tuna and cucumber

Again, a sensible s-day. To be honest, having no plans but lots to do (at home) this weekend probably helped - I had compete control over when and what to eat but not so much time I got bored and ate more.

Tuesday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana sandwich (bread fresh from the breadmaker)
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cucumber, carrot
Snack: a slice of pizza, a selection of small cakes
Snack an hour or so later: handful of cheesey puffy snack things

Urgh. Don't stick me outside policing an inflatable assault course full of overexcited 11-year olds on the first day of a heatwave for a couple of hours and expect me to say no to pizza. Or cake. :oops:

But now it's so hot and I'm still kinda but not really hungry. I got gifted some popcorn (random, but it came with a cinema gift card so it made sense) so that might be my dinner. After I've had a shower. Urgh, hot, tired, sweaty. One more day of school. Only a half day really. And I can stay inside in the air con tomorrow!

In reply to your lovely comments, I do love fruit and veg. Usually. When people don't wave cake in my face. And I bulk cook and freeze in individual portions to make life easier, so it's all much more lazy than it might sound!

I have learnt from experience that the last day of school is not worth stressing about keeping green

Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cucumber, red pepper, an apple, a kiwi and a chocolate cupcake
Dinner: cheesey mushroom pasta
Snack: some mini kit kats

Thursday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: tuna wrap, crisps, a strawberry and banana smoothie
Dinner: bread, mozzarella and tomato salad, crisps, green salad, bean salad, cous cous salad, cucumber, carrot, red pepper, humus

Statred the holidays with a busy day helping my parents pack up their old house, then a spot of tidying my new classroom and finally an evening at the beach with a picnic. Considering it was the hottest day ever (in England, in July) I'm quite impressed with my own productivity. But I did only go into work because there's air con and it was much cooler by the sea! So I pretty much avoided the heat all day - no excuse to eat ice cream!

Your Wednesday "fail" sounds like a relatively harmless day. Well done! I totally agree that there are some days it's not worth trying to adhere to all the rules. That being said, you really did well! I'm starting to slobber reading about what you ate on Thursday as well. Is that weird? Maybe so.

Congratulations on being out for the summer! I hope you get some relief from the heat. Our big heat wave (so far this year) broke a couple of days ago, thank goodness, and now we're back to "only" high 80s F. Whew.

Oops, Wednesday was supposed to be a non - weekend S day, I'll edit the colour to a more yellow orange! And I just remembered I had more chocolate, I'll add that in too!

It was a really good picnic yesterday evening, if I say so myself.

Our heatwave was a short one. It was 34C (93F) here yesterday (it got up to 38 (100) further east) but today its 25ish (77) which is much more manageable.

Today has been a proper fail. I'm slightly annoyed with myself because I said no to the cake my friend offered me at around 4pm, came home, had dinner and then ate half a tube of pringles and a massive bar of chocolate. I think it was partly because my meals were all a bit small, so better avoid that in future!

Friday
Breakfast: peanut butter and banana milkshake, toast with butter
Lunch: cous cous and bean salad (two left over salads mixed together), cheese puffs, an apple
Snack : three strawberries (I was going to count these as part of dinner at the time... But as I failed anyway I may as well confess properly)
Dinner: tomato and mozzarella on toast
Snack: all the pringles and chocolate

Urgh. I should have had mango instead. So silly.

...for a moment I thought I was reading one of my own posts....the words ‘Pringles’ and ‘massive bar of chocolate’... :lol:

I sympathise, flying! :) it’s something I occasionally do...refuse a nice polite snack only to go home and have something worse. Tricky! Willpower does run down. On good days I can fight this using extra drinks. I’m trying to rebuild this very habit at the moment.

Well, Octavia - I kind of think you and flyingpig are actually in the same neighborhood. You probably pass each other in the grocery store with your chocolate bars and pringles sometimes. :lol: :lol:

Pringles are good. But not as good as victory. Ha. Yep, the thing with refusing a temptation only to exceed it later sounds like something I've done more than a few times.

I think Octavia and I do both live in the south of England, so you might be right, automated. Next time I'm buying a tube of pringles, I'll give any likely candidates a knowing smile :P

Won't see me this week though, I'm in Norway!

I'm going with no snacks or sweets but yes to seconds as the buffet here has tiny tiny plates. If I do that, it's green. If not, it's a non - weekend S day, because I am on holiday! But just need a little something to restrain myself from super expensive Norwegian snacks or the endless supply of cookies in the reception area of the place we're staying in.

Sooo... Saturday and Sunday were both pretty snacky s days

Monday long, but green travelling day. I ate my first two meals in several parts, but they were packed the night before so I think that's planned enough to be considered "one plate"
Breakfast: peanut butter sandwich, a banana, fruit salad
Lunch: cheese salad sandwich, cucumber, carrot, humus, grapes and an apple
Dinner: bread, cheese, ham, tiny burger, salady bits

Tuesday
Breakfast: bread, cheese, ham, hard boiled egg
Lunch: bread, cheese, ham (sense a pattern here? :lol:), egg mayo and porridge with cinnamon and apricot jam (random, but nice, might start having porridge for lunch at home sometimes)
Dinner: chicken, potatoes, greek salad, tzaziki, fruit salad and ice cream
To be honest, the only thing that I'm making this count as non-green for is the ice cream. I could have just had fruit. Never mind. Probably will if that's dessert again.

Norway!! Yes! How fantastic! I'm particularly pleased that you got out of town ASAP after finishing school! It's great to get some physical separation for a bit to help the mind settle down and truly relax for the work-mode.

Norway is beautiful - would highly recommend it so far! Even if it did rain all morning today...

And added bonus, the food is good but nothing unusual that I feel I have to try (that we've come across so far anyway)

Holiday days are too long and full of lovely things to remember all the food. Or even what day of the week it is really :lol:

Yesterday was yellow; after my comment on the pervious post we were then presented with all kinds of Norwegian dishes including a lot of lovely fish and little pancakes with fresh blueberries in the afternoon.

Today was also yellow because there were chocolate brownies for pudding. But I did have a nectarine rather than an ice cream mid-afternoon. You win some, you lose some. Not even lose, I very much enjoyed my brownie!

Oh holidays...

So I slightly lost track of what day it was and was way too busy relaxing, travelling, eating ice cream and generally having a lovely time. Lots of moving (did 40000+ steps one day) but also lots of food.

Buuut... It's September now, work starts on Tuesday, back to normal life.

To kick start myself into healthier habits I thought I'd set myself the challenge of having no sugar in September. So anything with sugar as an ingredient (apart from bread - I make it, it probably has less sugar than bought bread) was going to be a no go in September. Fruit etc still fine, just no chocolate etc at the weekends.

Well, it lasted until 12ish, when I completely forgot and had a biscuit after church. And then chocolate after lunch.

I told my housemate this tale, and she said "well, it's still the first of September, you can still start from now!"

So, with that advice, I'll try again from now! See if I can last longer than 12 hours.

Also, back to logging what I eat. It helps.

Sunday
Breakfast: peanut butter on toast, butter on toast (see, I remembered about the no sugar at this point and didn't have jam)
Snack: one custard cream
Lunch: toasted cheese sandwich, tomato, five little chocolates
Dinner: chilli beans and rice

Six weeks of holiday are a definite teacher bonus. But it does make going back after the summer a bit of a shocker. At least we've got two days without children to ease ourselves back in.

One day down. It's amazing how quickly it all comes back. Happily my class have come back quite chilled and cheery - long may the calmness last. Still very tiring-glad for leftovers for dinner that I didn't even bother heating up. Cold mushrooms and pepper are surprisingly tasty. :lol:

Ha, amazing. I have tried various peanut butter flavours (coconut, seedy etc) and brands, but I always go back to the crunchy just peanut (and a tiny bit of oil and salt) ones.

I definitely missed sweet things more today, but I gave myself a stern talking to ("are you really saying you can't make it more than a week without sugar?" etc). Kinda struggling with ways to make weekends S-y without sugar cos it turns out I'm not really into savoury snacks... was tempted not to do anything different to a weekday, but I don't want to give myself an excuse to cave mid week.

Breakfast: peanut butter and banana on toast
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cucumber, red pepper, cherry tomatoes
Dinner: veggie pizza

Couldn't sleep last night, so I'm really tired. Couldn't be bothered to create any washing up for dinner, so made the (possibly dangerous) discovery that I can get a little takeaway pizza for under £5. At least it's small!

Breakfast: porridge with peanut butter and banana (and some extra nuts)
Lunch: cheese sandwich, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, a little orange and an apple
Dinner: carrot and coriander soup, warm cheese wrap (like a really basic quaesedilla)

Dinner: roast veg and bean stew with bulgar wheat, tomatoes and parsley

This week seems to be going on forever... first full week of work blues! Only one more day!

Saturday
Breakfast: an apple and yoghurt sprinkled with nuts and seeds
Lunch: pizza
Snack: crisps and a handful of blackberries (picked while on a walk). Then later, a couple of slices of bread
Dinner: leek and mushroom risotto with roasted butternut squash.

No trouble making this day S-y without sugar :lol:

I have a bit of an issue coming up this evening. We're taking the youth group out for ice cream. Not sure how I'm going to keep up my sugar-free September there. I think they have smoothies that are just fruit so that might be a compromise. Or just a cup of tea, but I don't want to put the youth off ordering whatever they want. We'll see...

You could order last so it won't effect them. I don't know the age of the youth but, if there are a lot of them, they are unlikely to notice what you order. A smaller group might notice but most likely will not care. A couple of other possibilities, depending on where you go, are steamed milk and flavored seltzer water.

Not sure how the ice cream social thing went - but I can promise you that if I order something sugar-free, my kids go right ahead and order whatever they want. :mrgreen: maybe teenage girls are a little more impressionable, though.

Sunday
Breakfast: buttered toast, apple, yoghurt, nuts and seeds
Lunch: pizza
Snack: pringles
Dinner: a very small bowl of pasta with roasted vegetables
Snack: hot cookie "dough" (if it's hot dough, surely that is just a cookie) with chocolate sauce and ice cream

So I decided to go with something sweet... It ended up being only one youth (so three of us in total - she was really looking forward to it so it would have been sad to cancel) and I'm sure she would have been fine ordering whatever if I'd just had tea. But the menu was amazingly tempting. And their hot drink machine was broken. At least it was a planned social event - the kind of thing that I'm actually quite happy to be eating unhealthy things at.

I'm still hungry, even after my extra dinner. Not sure whether to have some yoghurt, or just distract myself with washing up.

Edit an hour later: had a couple of spoonfuls of yoghurt. Washed up. Still hungry. Urgh. I want to finish some work but it's too near the chocolate cupboard.
