Dana's Daily

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Dana's Daily

Post by DMJ75 » Wed Mar 25, 2020 5:57 pm

I have looked through a lot of journals here trying to see what other people do.
I think for now, I will stick with the simple Green, Yellow, Red system. I am afraid that if I start writing what I eat, then I won't get out of diet land.

I have been exercising 2-3 days a week for about 2 months. I have seen some (very small) changes in how my clothing fits, but I know I could do better if I stop cycling through the binge sessions. I might be wrong, but I think that the bingeing happens when I have gone too long without enough calories or maybe nutrients (because of restrictive eating) and then my body tries to find balance. It's just a theory.

Monday 3/23 Red
Tuesday 3/24 Red
Wednesday 3/25...Green so far

Day 4 and 5 were Red :(
I feel like I have already had my special days.

Well, I will enjoy the weekend and aim for green during week 2

Does anyone here eat more than 3 meals per day?

There are lots on this board that eat (or have eaten) 4 meals a day. A planned snack is a common mod, especially early. I think Alene was doing that.

I personally have never done that (on purpose, lol). If I am hungry between meals I have decaf coffee w/milk or cream.

Monday, 3/30 Red

I have decided to add that snack between lunch and dinner when I need it. That's the reason I have had Red days. Maybe my body is telling me something.

Sounds like a good plan! Figure out your inner rebel and reasonably appease it while you build sustainable habits.

Hi, Dana! I gently suggest you start thinking that you tell your body when to eat, not when it wants it. We have paired eating with countless situations, thoughts, places, people, and on and on and on. It almost never had to do with need, just a paired stimulus. Humans are opportunistic eaters! But we are all free to choose how often, how much, and what we eat. No S is about trying to decrease the decisions. It's the deciding all day that wears us out! But it's also true that we can phase in the habits. As someone said, lots of people start with a planned snack during their hardest meal gap. Others use a beverage. That was my go to because having a decaf mocha with stevia never made me want to go to town on food, but small snacks often led to WTH (what the hell, an actual willpower research term)! Sounds like you've made your choice for this week, and that's perfect.

Another great thing about No S is it's built in that you have to adjust as you go. It is not some prescribed program that you're either not going to be able to keep up or have to adjust a lot later anyway for other reasons. But it means that up front, it's more "mysterious." Am I doing it right? people often think. It can take awhile to figure what is doing it right for you, but it's also true that it probably won't be that far off from what has kept traditional societies slim for generations.

Glad to meet you!

Thanks oolala! Those are good ideas for me to think about. I will confess that the afternoon snack makes me want to keep eating. I am not sure which is harder, will power to skip it or will power to stop eating???

Hmm...a hot mocha drink. I might have to try that.

Hello,
I have been away for a little while. I really got off track. I am hoping to start posting again.

My morning was definitely NOT on plan...so I am hoping to stave of eating until dinner and re-start my journey there.
I have stopped exercising and I have been going to bed at ridiculous times!!!! I have got to get back on track.
I will probably track eating, exercising, and bed time. I need to sit down and think about my goals.

My plan:
1. Vanilla No S
2. Exercise for at least 15 minutes
3. Be in bed by 9:30

Simple and to the point.

I will start tracking tomorrow.
