Anyone thinking of skipping S days this weekend?

With Thanksgiving coming up next week that will be a definite S day mid week does anyone think it would be a good idea to forgo the S days this weekend.

I may skip ONE S-day, or do what I call "limited-S" days. That means I get a snack OR a sweet OR seconds (as opposed to "and").

But I'm more likely to do that the weekend after than before. Just because I want my upcoming S days, and probably won't feel a need for them after T-day.

But hadn't really thought about it until you mentioned it. Yes, in terms of weight loss, a good idea. But in terms of learning to accept that it's okay to eat food sometimes, and be selective about when... I think it's okay to take them if you want.

My "S" days as of late haven't looked too different from my "N" days lately, so I'm not even thinking about skipping them. BUT I wouldn't skip them if things were different.

Thanksgiving comes but once a year. It IS an "S" day. As long as you don't take it as license to stuff yourself (in addition to stuffing the turkey) and go right back to good habits the next day -- what the heck?

If I felt the need to miss an "S" day or eat more lightly, I'd probably do it the weekend after the holiday rather than the weekend before.

But then I see the meal as one plateful, add some dessert. We typically don't do appetizers and snack things, except for veggies, so I'm not worried about that.

I'd advise against it. Thanksgiving itself isn't going to make much of a difference. It's one day. It's clearly a major holiday. Enjoy it. Keep it one day and you'll be fine. Start trying to compensate for it and you introduce complexity and a bad precedent of paying "reparations" which will make you more likely to screw up because you think you can always make up for it later.

The hard part around the holidays is not the holidays themselves, but the days around them. Confusing the N-day/S-day division only makes that worse. Focus on keeping your legitimate S-days rewarding, and your N days virtuous and you'll be fine.

While weight loss is a goal for all of us, I think the bigger goal is to learn to deal with food in an appropriate manner. In that light, I think keeping the "S" days is important.

I have not posted for a while so some of you newish members of this board may not know who I am. But, I have been a member for about 18 months.

I echo Reinhard (surprising, huh?) that you should just enjoy the S day of Thanksgiving and then just stick to a normal non-S day on Friday. You will feel so empowered. You will have enjoyed Thanksgiving and then on Friday you will have your regular three meals. (One of which will probably consists of a turkey sandwich). Hey, the pie will be there on Saturday and Sunday. I followed the rules to the letter during last year's holiday season and I lost weight! Any Christmas party that doesn't fall on an S day was just a regular non-S day. This can be done. The rules are so simple.
