What's gotten easier about no-S:
1) No sweets (no problem!)
2) Not craving food after dinner
3) No seconds, to some extent
But I still have this tendency to want to snack. Lately I've been fragmenting my meals: half a sandwich and an apple at lunch, the rest of the sandwich before I get on my bike to ride (40 minutes) home. In the end it's the same amount of food, or even less because I avoid the blood sugar crash (and frantic calorie fest) that happens when I go too long without eating.
But I don't really like this kind of virtual plating (actual snacking). It just feels like my good habits are falling apart. Anyone have any thoughts on the subject?
Virtual plating = actual snacking-- any ideas?

I actually do eat this way because it was just too hard and too painful for me not to. I figure an exact meal that will fit on a plate in advance and then eat it in pieces, as you describe. As long as it's set this way and things can't be added or changed during the day based on whim I feel file about it. And for me, it's what makes this possible for me to do for life.

What you want to avoid is irregular, uncontrolled eating... it doesn't sound like your "virtually" split afternoon meal falls into that category. What I'd try to do is regularize this as much as possible. Why not just officially eat 4 meals instead of 3 divided by some variable whatever? Then you're not fighting or twisting a habit, but building one, with appropriate safeguards, like perhaps a half sized plate for meals 2 and 3.

If I had to ride 40 minutes home, I'd definitely be eating before I started.
For a long time, I needed a fourth meal. I'm an insulin dependent diabetic, so I know all about Bg crashes, and how frantic they make you feel.
I wouldn't feel bad about adding that fourth meal. It might just be too hard to ride for 40 minutes, then gt home and wait for dinner, especially if you are making it!
