Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Sbay301 Check in

Post by sbay301 » Sat Jun 21, 2008 10:39 am

Completed my first week and have 7 links in my paperclip chain. Yes, I need an animate object to carry around to help. Adding to my link gives me a sense of accomplishment.

I have faced my scale fears and now weigh in everyday. I will begin to graph my weight so I can have a picture of where I’ve been and where I’m going.

This is the first “diet†I’ve been on that I can see myself sticking to. Just enough rules to be helpful and just enough room to it make my own.

Woke up at 4:30 a.m. like a kid on Christmas. It’s my s-day!!!! Of course I’m not hungry yet so I’m going to wait to see what I want so that I make this day really special.

I’m planning on sticking to the 3 meals a day. I want to maintain that habit. However, I know I will have a dessert with lunch and/or dinner. That’s just who I am.

Tuesday Results:

Yesterday was a very tough day for me as I was tired and crabby due to lack of sleep. I wanted to eat all day long. However, I stuck with the program.

I had to tell myself "oh well" many times. As in "I want to eat the Reeses Peanut Butter Cups in the office refrigerator." "Oh well. I can't have everything I want." "But I'm hungry." "Oh well it's not lunch time."

b - cereal and coffee
l - frozen dinner - Beef & vegetables and apple
d - sandwich and banana

Eating the same items really helps when I want to eat everything. It also helps that I don't cook so there is no tasting and sampling. A package of granola bars is just that 1 serving. A frozen dinner is just that 1 serving. As far as making a sandwich, I purchase just enough slices of turkey and cheese to make it through the week for dinner. No fudging! Portioning cereal is not hard as I measure the cereal into a plastic container after I eat dinner so it's ready for breakfast the next day.

So, I made it through another N day and today (Wednesday) I don't have the need to eat - yet!

sbay301,

WAY TO GO!

I used "self-talk" a lot in the beginning, it is very helpful for talking us through the rough moments when we just "want to eat", I still use it whenever I need it!

Blueskighs, thanks for your word of encouragement. You are so positive and uplighting.

Wednesdays Results:

b-Cheerios, milk, and banana
l- frozen Chinese dinner and apple
d- Turkey & cheese sandwich

I didn't work out as I got home late due to beauty appointment.

Feeling more in control but sure do miss my love, sweets! But as I said "oh well." Saturday is just around the corner. Really thinking hard about this weekend and how I will handle it. I feel I'm doing well with n-days and want to continue the trend with s-days.

Already have breakfast planned with a friend and I know we are going for pancakes on Sunday. So, I just need to decide what to do on Saturday.

Note to self (or anyone who will remind me): take yummies home tonight so that I may enjoy 1/2 of one this weekend.

Blueskighs thanks for the vote of confidence. I need all the support from this site that I can get.

I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas as I anticipate my S-day. Just need to make it through the day. Only X hours to go.

Well I made it through the weekend. I'm disappointed in myself for having a free for all. Total failure for this weekend. My passion for sweets took over and I indulged on both Saturday and Sunday.

I need a strategy for the weekends. I'm comfortable with my weekdays. So, I've decided for the month of July my goal is to work on S-days.

l-frozen dinner - Beef Stroganoff, apple & 8 crackers
d- Turkey & cheese sandwich and banana

I'm really worried about Thursday and Friday and how I will handle food. Believe it or not I'm hoping boyfriend and I do NOT go out of town. It's simpler for me to stay on track when I can eat foods that are controlled portions - ie pre-packaged food.

So, if we go out of town I plan on bringing granola bars and apples which will give me some structure and can be considered breakfast.

I guess bottom line is that I don't trust myself, especially after this past weekend. I feel like I'm a bottomless hole and that no amount of food is enough.

I feel like I want too much.

Believe it or not this is my 20th day No S-ing. As I've written before, Monday throught Friday I do the Vanilla No-S. I haven't deviated.

The first weekend of No-S I did great. Had a special treat each day - no problem.

The second weekend of No-S I did fairly well also. Saturday lunch was a little big and had chocolate chip cookies as a dessert in the afternoon. Looking at my journal on Sunday I didn't have sweets, snacks or seconds.

My problem was this past weekend. It turned into a free for all. I actually gained 4.5 pounds when I weighed in on Monday. Needless to say I have felt terrible about myself all week and therefore I am dreading Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Sooooo......what to do?

Yes, I'm frustrated and scared.
