Four months!

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Four months!

Post by BeingGreen » Fri Jan 23, 2009 6:39 pm

I just noticed that today was the four month mark for me! In that time I have learned a lot, been very successful at keeping my N days green, and been humbled by "s days gone wild" more than once! Just when I think I've got "NoS" down perfectly, my appetite seems to run amok on a Saturday or Sunday. While technically okay, it doesn't feel very good when it's happening or the day after. I'm striving for better, more moderate S days in the months to come.

And while I'm still very much a habitualrunner, I like my new username better.

Good for you New Hope!!! You will find that S days taper off naturally over time. It took me about six months in my initial time on NoS between 2005-2006, for my S days and serving sizes on N days, to become less of a free for all.
The fact that you don't even like this behaviour is the first step in changing it.
You just have to keep thinking of *enjoying* S days and not simply gorging yourself.. That's not enjoyment..
Be proactive and choose a couple of great treats for the weekend in advance.
If you stray a little it's still far better than "winging it" the whole weekend and just having non stop "opportunistic eating".
Congratulations on your four months of successful NoS!!!!
