Slyce's daily Check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Slyce's daily Check-in

Post by manwithaplan23 » Thu Feb 05, 2009 3:36 am

Day 1 for me: Success

Starting weight: 225 lbs. Height: 6'2.

Comments: Not too bad so far. I had a big craving to eat mid-day, but I held myself off til dinner. Drinkwise, I'm going to try and limit myself to water, one cup of coffee, and one bottle of Lipton white tea(appears to be about same healthwise as green tea) I just got from Target. I'm going to start implementing exercise at the beginning of next week. It's just tough to figure out what's best to do, as it's so cold outside currently. I'll figure something out. Will try to check in daily, but if I don't, I'll keep you updated on anything interesting that does happen.

Day 2: Success!

It was a good day for me. I had a pretty big urge to eat in between lunch and dinner again, but I staved it off with my white tea. I probably had 1 or 2 extra beverages then I really needed, but I did not mess up with food, and I didn't go overboard with meal portions either. This diet is such a great lifestyle to live with. I honestly have been enjoying myself immensely so far.

I also walked for 90 minutes today. It was a nice long walk, and I got to listen to a lecture that I had wanted to listen to for a while. I probably won't always do a walk this long(especially when it's as cold as it is right now), but I really enjoyed doing this as well.

one more normal day til my first S-day. I don't plan on eating too much on my S-day. I work at Chick-fil-a, so I'll probably eat something lower-calorie there for my meal, and treat myself to a small snack after I get off work. Then I'm off to my first full week on No-S. This has been such a great experience so far. I already feel much better psychologically, not feeling as guilty when I eat meals, etc. Thanks guys!

B - Bagel
L - Sandwich with mayo, meat, and lettuce
D - Rice-a-roni and Homemade chicken strips

Day 3: Success!

Another good day. It was once again pretty tough between lunch and dinner, especially since I had to eat lunch early in the day, and dinner came a bit later. It definitely made me enjoy dinner more, and with less guilt as well.

I've decided to not be as strict with beverages. Don't worry, I don't plan on goin crazy, I just find it a bit annoying and frustrating to watch all I drink as well. That being said, I am still most definitely staying away from Coke and other sugary drinks.

I didn't walk or run today, but I did have my weekly gym class from 1-2:30, which proved to be some great exercise. I don't think I'll exercise on my S-days, besides if I want to walk, or shoot some hoops or something like that.

My first S-day is up tomorrow. I don't plan on going to crazy. I picked out a meal from Chick-fil-a that's relatively healthy, and then I'm going to have some Reese's pieces I got for myself. I'll still write an update tomorrow, as it's a good habit to keep up.

I love the lifestyle this creates in me. I don't feel guilty whenever I have a meal, because I know i've been waiting for it, instead of snacking up til it.

B-Mini Bagel with a slice of ham.
L-Sandwich with Meat, Lettuce, and low-fat Honey Mustard.
D-Pizza

Day 4: Exempt (S-day)
Day 5: Exempt (S-day)

I didn't go too overboard on my S-days. Probably the worst things I had were Taco Bell and a bag of Reese's Pieces. It was nice to relax a bit, but I'm happy I'm back to normal days again, as hard as they can be.

I weighed myself on Sunday. Down 2 pounds! It's probably just fluctuation, but it was cool to see. Time for my first full week on No-S.

Day 6: Success
Day 7: Success

Another two good days for me. Probably ate a little too much for dinner tonight, but besides that, I was good. Sorry, I've been busy so only short updates for now.

Day 7: Success!
Day 8: Success!

These were both really good days for me. Along with No-S, I'll admit i have been doing some calorie counting. I had about 1200 calories total each of these two days. I've been watching my portions well, and have been working on eating things that taste good, are filling, but low on calories. I've felt really good these past few days. Thanks guys!

P.S. I'll probably be sticking with this Every other day format. A lot easier for me.

Sorry I haven't been checking in. Quick update:

Haven't failed yet! I kinda took 3 S-days last weekend, because I went out with some friends on President's day, but I'm not really worried about that. I've been sticking to it. My habits feel so much better, it's really great. Coming up on the 3-week mark this wednesday! Thanks guys!
