Most people don't need snacks -- we need three meals daily. Part of the rationale is that we aren't active enough to warrant the extra calories. If we do need to snack, it should be 150-200 calories. Link to the piece.

Having said that -- and this sounds silly -- we also need to make sure we consume enough calories. My neighbor is actively trying to lose weight. She's been losing, but the nutritionist she sees suggested a fourth meal because she wasn't consuming enough calories. She's losing more quickly now.

I've just recently added more calories, usually in the form of breakfast -- which I eat after I've been up for 2-3 hours. To be fair, my level of activity has increased recently, too. I'm losing more weight!

Oh gosh, I think I saw what you were talking about. The "snack" items that fast food chains are now offering? I hope people who previously saw those things as legitimate snack (or even meal) options had a change of heart after watching that segment. Whenever I see commercials advertising those gross food products as something a person should eat between meals, I start seeing red.

I agree that they're gross, but I don't think most people realize that those "snacks" have nearly as many calories as a meal.
