Nic's Check In - Sticking with it but nervous about 3 s days

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Nic's Check In - Sticking with it but nervous about 3 s days

Post by gettheweightoff » Fri Dec 31, 2010 2:00 pm

This is day 5 for me and I'm actually doing this. WOW. This is the first time I've been on a "plan" and have gone more than a day or two without giving up/giving in.

Today is an S day being New Years so I am nervous about having 3 S days in a row. Any advice?

Hi Nic,

What works for me is to still think in terms of N days. In order for me to lose weight, I CAN'T just completely let loose. I am the queen of perma snacking and will truly pick at food nonstop if allowed (which also ruins my appetite for my meals). That is something I've had to learn - I must have rules - and I like them. Having said that, I'll have a blowout meal tonight with dessert.

Depending on how you are, you may be able just to enjoy an S day without rules. If you are like me, you may want to proceed with caution and avoid mindless snacking as much as possible, sticking to meals but allowing more food, dessert, etc - that's what I'm doing!

Good luck :)
