Hi....finishing up with 1st 5 weeks

Post by keldadog » Fri May 20, 2011 11:11 pm

I've been doing this for about 5 weeks now and wanted to check in. No major slip ups...some lovely S days, a few genuine sick days, but decided to give an initial report. I'm down about 11-12 pounds which is great. I'm also doing shovelglove and the C25K program....which I LOVE. I came down with a nasty cold and have been genuinely bummed about missing yesterday's run.

What have I realized in 5 weeks? Well, it is possible to enjoy a Friday afternoon with friends and not snack (nobody really notices). Food tastes a lot better when you're really hungry. And more importantly, yes, after some pretty "tall" plates of food, that issue is starting to resolve itself. My meals are smaller, I don't feel bad, and am TRULY hating the feeling that I get when I do manage to eat too much at one time. I really love that last part, because I used to feel that way after every meal.

It's a journey but No S combined with C25K has made me feel better than I have in years. Other stats are in order, I suppose....I'm 43, have 2 kids, lots of dogs, and started off needing to lose about 77 pounds. Five weeks later I'm still 43, still have 2 kids, lots of dogs, 77 minus 12 pounds, and I actually ran 20 minutes without stopping last Saturday. :) Yeah!!!!!

Thanks No S!

Oops...forgot to add....as you can tell, I joined way back in January 2010 and made a few half-a**ed attempts...then forgot about it for a while....then remembered it at the beginning of the new year...and then decided to go for it again April 11th. So...if at first you don't succeed....you know the rest!

FANTASTIC!

I am curious about C25K. I am trying to get back into running. I currently do a combo walk/jog and just try to keep my overall pace at less than 12 minutes per mile. Of course my eventual goal is to keep increasing my pace.

So....C25K sounds like a run thing? I am interested to learn more.

PS: I started needing to lose 70 lbs and did my 5 month weigh in today. I now need to lose 41.2 lbs.
The journey is the reward.
Maintenance is progress.

C25K

Yup...C25K is Couch Potato to 5K....and I for sure qualify as a couch potato...although I'm now a bit less of one. It's a 9 week program of walk/jog/run to get you up to a 5K. Since I'm a bit, ahem, slow, I think I'll be able to run the whole 32 min. by the end but probably won't cover 3.1 miles. I have an app for my iphone that tells me when to walk/run/go/stop and I love it. I'm going to try to get back out there tomorrow morning since my cold seems much better....week 6 day 2 is calling. :D
