Middle aged Newbie from England....
Hello everyone,
I hope you are all set for a good week? I am SO fed up of diets, failing, punishing myself , you know. I also literally AVOID weighing myself as it's so depressing and end up in a destructive cycle. But this morning... I weighed myself. 11 stones 11 lbs. I can't keep putitng my life on hold, not buying clothes (until I lose weight), not going here or there (until I lose weight). It's so sad and I don't want to be this powerless, weakling..
Before Christmas, by myself I decided to try 3 square meals a day, no snacks and junk (chocolate!).... I didn't know about 'No S' at this point but it seemed common sense as this is what folk used to do. I have to say, my appetite naturally reduced after a few days but I hadn't thought it through to the point of this brilliant book! I need to break habits, not be obsessed with being thin.
I downloaded 'No S diet' on m ykindle late last night and have finished it today.
What a thoroughly refreshing read! Thank you Reinhard. You say it like it is and I feel equipped for the coming 3 weeks ahead... that's my focus. to change the habits in those 3 weeks. Not beat myself up and to enjoy what I have on S days.
I'm actually a sufferer of endometriosis and there is no doubt that carrying an additional 28lbs is not doing me any favours. I am on a gluten free and dairy free diet and should not be eating all the sugary treats I've been indulging in. At the moment, I feel grotty, hormonal and just fat and old. I'm 44, I don't want to go on yo yo- ing like this. If anyone wants quick weight loss, well divorce was v.v.speedy for me - drastic (I really wouldn't recommend it) and it didn't stay off and it's expensive!
Prior to that I lost 35lbs with WW ... couldn't live on points... Slimming World... urgh... no good telling me to eat as much as I like of things.... the group meetings were dreadful, going round every member discussing their woes and joys. Then I've tried intermittent fasting (I just binge). 2 years ago I lost about a stone on the Rosemary Conley diet (calorie accounting)then put it all back on - I lost 7lbs in the first week but was now realise this is unrealistic. I've also tried the 'Zoe Harcombe diet' which is similar to atkins I believe ... no fruit, no carbs... no life... no light at the end of the tunnel..
I do think, I was on the right lines with my 3 square meals a day idea but I needed more help and insight, and Reinhard's book has been so easy to read, I already feel free in that I'm not being told to cut something out or be a food accountant.
So today... I know it's an S day but I have had 3 healthy meals, No snacks , no seconds and no sweets. I have probably eaten more on my main meals than I would normally think possible but I'm going to crack the basic rules before any fine tuning. I have to stop looking for quick fixes, I have to change HABITS. This is a very different approach, I am thankful.
I've got my coloured pens next to the calendar and hopefully, the green and yellow pens will wear out much sooner than the red.
Sorry this is long, I just needed to get this off my chest I think.
Any tips for week 1 appreciated.
Love

Welcome!
My main tip is that you start a Daily Check-In thread and use it as a bit of a diary or journal. Talk about food, talk about family, whatever works for you to be motivated to come back to your thread frequently to update your progress.

You are certainly starting strong, and your presentation is hilarious! ("no carbs no fruit, no life....") There really is nothing like being truly fed up with the alternatives to help get you through the possible tough moments when aspiration meets doubt in the face of old habit.
On another site where I have a "team"- quite inactive, unfortunately, but No S will never be able to compete with the diet status quo since it's just not shiny or fast enough-for awhile I posted quotations from the book on a daily basis. Problem was, I felt nearly every sentence was quotable. Theoretically, someone could just read the cover or the book once, but since we are talking about a new "culture" of thinking about food, I think it bears rereading.
Happy eating!

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.
I will look at the daily check in. I think the calendar traffic light is going to be helpful for me too.
About to have scrambled eggs on gluten free toast, which seems extravagant on a Monday morning.
My husband also purchased a hard copy of the book and says he will read it. He needs to lose a stone I'd say but he needs to understand why we're doing it.
Much love

Welcome! NoS is the place to be! Sensible, Satisfying, and Sane!
I highly recommend that you peruse one of the threads in the Stickies entitled "NoS glossary". It is full of pithy, witty sayings and word pictures. Getting these into our brains is like having a sword against irrational impulses, stupid choices, and weak moments. And when we do fall, a staff or crutch to get ourselves back up!
Here's a link to make it easy:
https://everydaysystems.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=3883
I also recommend you spend some time wandering through the NoS Diet Testimonials forum. You'll see how real people have applied NoS to real lives with success--success measured in many, many ways beyond the scale. Very inspiring!
Enjoy your meals! All three (and no more) of them!
PS. I've yet to change my sig but I'm at 9+ years with NoS. It is truly livable...

Hi, vmrsbat! Haven't seen you in awhile. I've been on the board for 10 years, but didn't take it seriously until after the first year, so we have the same time in.
Hope you got through Hump Day, No more yo-yo.

Good going, No More Yo-Yo!
Thanks for the warm greetings, Oolala and Automated.... and for even noticing, as I am not a big poster even at the best of times.
Still NoS-ing, although menopause and injuries hit hard there for awhile. Have had to readjust a bit what I put on my plate, and that has taken some time to figure out, but no other "diet" even tempts me--they all seem so ridiculous (barring true medical necessity to restrict).
Here's to another green day, No More Yo-yo! (And if not, just mark it and move on.)
