Margitta's Quest for Normalcy

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Margitta's Quest for Normalcy

First post, 8th day on No S. So far not too bad, out of the 8 days I had one I consider a true failure as I had 2 of the 3 no S's on an N day. I had started to only do one calendar on the Habitcal page to keep track of my days on No S, but I was reading some threads and realized since this is still very new to me, I made 4 calendars.

In order to keep a check on exactly where my issues are (as if I didn't know already, though it really does help seeing it in red, yellow and green!) I labeled them 'diet", 'NoSweets', 'NoSnacks', and 'NoSeconds'.

The diet is pretty self-explanatory, It's to track the No S diet in it's true state. Any little S that happens will be marked as a failure. On the other three calendars I keep track of how well I do following each individual No S rule. In this way I can see where I am the weakest and it should help to keep me hopeful that I can do this!

Sure, you can do it. And we will all help you.

Take it one meal at a time, celebrate each small victory, brush off each small defeat - check in here and post when you can, check the other threads as they are very helpful.

Glad to "meet" you.

:D

Yesterday went well, a few sweets, probably more than I should have, but they wound up not being the all "yummmmm" that I had wanted them to be. Which I am glad for, now I can be a little bit more discriminating on what treats to have on S days.

Welcome to No S. Strawberry said it so well, I won't try to improve on it. My daughter was at your weight a year ago and has since lost 50 pounds doing basically what we are all doing. She just doesn't post. So hang in there.
I'm baaaack.

14 days in and I have had a few weak days. I made brownies and cookies for my girls at work on Tuesday night and then spiraled out of control. :P I am not giving up though, it's just a set-back for now.

I have been doing very well with avoiding seconds since I generally do not get seconds. Snacks was one of my weaknesses, but with making sure I eat enough food to get me through from one meal to the next, I have been able to almost completely avoid snacking.

Now, sweets....sigh....my weakness. Tuesday and Friday nights are bad for me. Tuesdays because it is my late night. I was mulling over possibly starting my breakfast later and having dinner, albeit a small one, after I get home at 9:00pm so as to avoid snacking and sweets. I'll have to think that one over.

I have been reading about people making Friday evening an S night and Sunday evening an N night. That sounds in theory pretty good, since I usually don't have anything after dinner on Sunday evening.

Things to think about.

No diet is perfect for all people all the time. Make it work for you and it will be the perfect diet for you. If doesn't matter if it is perfect for anyone else. The true test is if it is maintainable and you lose weight.
I'm baaaack.
