Aberrant's 2012 Project

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

So my previous attempt at no-essing in December was a mess between traveling, depending on family for meals and exercise opportunities, and generally being new-ish to the diet. But I think I learned a few things and have the opportunity to start fresh with relatively little hassles this month. Yay!

I would LOVE to get to 21 days. I am also going into a huge career "new step" in the week just after January 22nd, and it would be great to have a few achievements under my belt. I know that's a pretty tall order, though, so let's just take it day by day!

For January, I am doing vanilla No-S. I am very sure that I will need at least one mod to make it a really realistic long term thing, but want to try it the whole way first. In addition, I have two exercise commitments I want to follow for this month: yoga 5 days a week and running 3. The amounts of time for either don't matter. And I am using a "flexible s-day" system for the exercise (NOT eating, that is straight-up vanilla) in that I have two S-days for yoga and four for running that I can use any time in the week, but once I use those up, any days that I don't exercise will be fail days. And if I exercise extra days, great!

Sunday, day 0- weekend S
My eating was a bit of a mess today, but I dont have to feel guilty about that!
I have a houseguest for the next two days and am showing her around town, so this does make sticking to a diet a little extra challenging. I am definitely a bit nervous.
Yoga- success! (1/5 for the week)

Tuesday, Day 2: success!
THRILLED that this is shaping up to be easy, for now, although my meals are pretty big. I did turn down a cream puff that I thought would settle my stomach, so at least I know I am turning down things.

Wednesday, Day 3: success!
...with some funny business. My lunch was a burrito on the run, so it never saw a plate, though I still "saw" it in front of me. And my boyfriend and I shared a pretty big single plate for dinner. It was still a plate, though, although I never got a visual on how much I actually ate.

TODAY I struggling a little bit. I ended up putting too much time between means (I'm hungry now and won't have dinner for another few hours) AND I am craving sugar. A lot. Sigh... another 48 hours or so till the weekend.

Thursday, Day 4: success!
And weathered some serious sugar cravings. Not bad.
yoga- day off (4/5)

Friday, Day 5: success!
Attended a memorial service for a friend who passed away. There was a buffet table with all sorts of comfort foods. I pretty confidently made myself a sweets-free, not at all overloaded plate. I feel odd celebrating this achievement given the occasion, but it was a success.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I MADE IT A WHOLE FIVE DAYS- which, obviously, turns it into a week.
I am attending my partner's work party this coming Thursday and am tempted to call it an "S" day since there will be (really great, free) food available, maybe not a sit-down meal, and I can't really anticipate if there will be an opportunity for "plating." I also won't really be able to get food anywhere else. Anyone have thoughts about that?
