Gearing Up for the Super Bowl
I must admit, it is strange, in a group of predominant posters who are ladies, to post about "the big game". But I have to, this Super Bowl is "special."
I grew up in the town of Loomis, a suburb of Sacramento, and the 49ers training camp was 3 miles from my house. I grew up (literally) with Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, and shared my 20's and 30's with Steve Young. I even served Whoppers with Cheese at the local BK to Joe Montana and Dwight Clark. (The Catch)
So, yes, I am excited for this Sunday. I also am menu planning. Terriyaki chicken wings, sourduogh bread squares and artichoke heart dip, real Coca Freakin' Cola (no diet on this day), fudge Pop Tarts, probably basmati rice to put the chicken wings on, and who knows what else? Maybe hot dogs. I have no idea what the wife and kids are having. (I'm not sure what will happen if they loose? curl up into a fetal position and eat Little Smokies out of a cold crock pot...)
Anyway, I'm in a quandary, I think I might under eat a bit on Saturday, but I'm not sure.
Pray tell, what would others do?

I would possibly eat a little lighter the day before, but even more likely the day after, according to my appetite.

I'd eat normally on Saturday, lighter on Monday if necessary. Well, since Saturday is an S-day, maybe a little lighter than usual, but not too much lighter.
I'm looking forward to having this with some fresh artisan-type bread as part of my dinner on Sunday.

Wow! So the Super Bowl really will be a big event for you - I hope they win! And whatever you decide to have, enjoy it. Since you ask, I think if it were me, I'd probably be very reasonable on Saturday, enjoy myself to the fullest on Sunday, and then be very conscious about getting back to routine on Monday.
Have a great weekend!

Gotta agree with BrightAngel. I'm often for the underdog but SF is just such a cool city!
But I don't have any plans to watch, at this point.

I don't care which team wins. I usually pay at least half-hearted attention to the game, the commercials and the half time show. But this year, even if I watch the game, I'll probably take a break and watch Downton Abbey.

Eat regularly on Saturday, less if you want, and enjoy your Sunday feast. That is what I'm planning to do. I'm going to a combination 50th birthday party (for me!)/Superbowl Party and I plan to enjoy every minute.

Me and my daughters usually watch Toddler and Tiaras marathon and do a mock beauty pageant to see who can do the most hideous makeup and hair, or perhaps a zombie beauty pageant. This year I don't see a marathon for TandT. Sigh. My husband is watching from home this year. He coaches six soccer teams and just wants to be home, so my usual plans are foiled!
I would try and eat lighter on Sat, perhaps wait u til I'm hungry and remind myself how much better I feel when I am not stuffed, and probably lighten it up on Monday. My husband does not like appetizer snacky food so we will get some Portillos tomorrow and chocolate whip cream cake, as requested. (Portillos is Chicago style Itallian beef and dogs=yummy!) Lou Malnati's tonight woot woot!
Edited to add Girl next door looks like we are about the same height and starting weight....keep up the good work!!!!!

I am so envious! I love Portillos and Lou Malnati's. Well, I love Chicago. Until about 10 years ago I lived about an hour from Chicago and made frequent trips there. Now it's 2 1/2-3 hours and for that among other reasons, trips are very infrequent. I miss it.snapdragon wrote:we will get some Portillos tomorrow and chocolate whip cream cake, as requested. Go Ravens!! It's a madhouse here in the Baltimore area! People are beside themselves over this Superbowl... The team spirit here is incredible. I'm joining with Over43 for Giant S Day phenomenon. There will be more partying around here on Sunday than every day of the holidays combined regardless of who ends up winning!
Sometime this week I heard that more calories are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday than any other day of the year -- including Thanksgiving. I believe it.

Well, cold little smokies...I ended up watching PBS at one point, the game was looking so bad. Congratulations Baltimore.

When the lights went out, I watched Downton Abbey. What a surprise when I switched back.Over43 wrote:Well, cold little smokies...I ended up watching PBS at one point, the game was looking so bad. Congratulations Baltimore.
