Clarebear's daily check in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Clarebear's daily check in

Post by clarebear » Mon Aug 05, 2013 2:11 pm

Doing this so I am accountable!

This is my first day, so far so good :)
I am excited for a few weeks time when I can see the difference in myself, although I think I will feel the difference in a couple of days!
Feel like I've been set free from the diet trap!
woohoo!

Day 2 was a success! I've taken up reading to take my mind off snacking!

Thank you :)

Well, it's day 2!
I had a very grumpy hour between 4.30 and 5.30pm yesterday where I was so hungry! but think this was my brain tricking me! I had a glass of milk then went in the gym!
Hoping day 2 is a little easier :-)

Late afternoon is really hard for me too. Having milk and diverting attention away from food is good strategy. Hang in there! Remember you did not give in!!

Day 3 was slightly easier than 1 and 2, didn't get as harsh 'hunger' pangs.
I know it will take weeks maybe even months for my body to adjust after years of yo yoing but in the grand scheme of things that is life it's not a big amount of time at all to become healthy!

Very very HAPPY I came across this when I did

As they say, when the pupil is ready the teacher will appear!

Late afternoons have been really hard for me too lately & then I torture myself even further by watching the Food Channel!

Just make sure you're eating enough at mealtimes & your body should start to adjust. (Hopefully mine too!)

haha!
Yeah I'm making sure I have a plate full at meal times, breakfast is hard at the minute- I'm normally starving in the mornings but this week I have woken up with not much of an appetite but I'm pushing through!

Well, it's Friday and I have had such a good week! Looking forward to my S day tomorrow, this will be a test for me as I'm all or nothing - and struggle with bingeing sometimes. I am in the zone though so am going to have a couple of treats and enjoy them but then draw a line!

Really wanting to weigh myself today as my skirt feels a little looser but I'm resisting the urge! Going to wait til end of August

Dear clarebear. What a great week you have had. The weekend beckons - enjoy your treats, no need to binge, all is allowed and some wild s days are a characteristic of many successful noSers I have noticed. I will also struggle this weekend as have planned lots of treats and I don't want to fall into a great big food pit. So I know why you are anxious. Hope it goes well

I'm scared too :-S
I don't want to build myself up too much for not losing as much as I think I will. I certainly feel a whole lot different so that in itself is enough at the moment! :)

feeling good again today, more energy in a morning!
Watched the men who made us thin this morning, so interesting. The diet industry has got people who want a quick fix to losing weight right where they want them!

I actually said the phrase 'hunger is not an emergency' yesterday!
It was nearly tea time and I was STARVING!! but tea was less than an hour away so chill out!!

I know weight loss will be steady so I don't want to rush it but I am looking forward to a few months time when I can really see the results - and all without feeling deprived!!

Hey, you are doing so well- good on you!! I get sooo hungry in the late afternoon, always been the time when I am most vulnerable to blowing it all and bingeing. You are getting through it and staying green - great :)

Thanks Tessy! :)

Had my tea last night then my friend offered me a cornetto, normally if on a diet I'd say no then think about it for ages after! Last night I said no and didn't think about it once, knowing that if I wanted a treat it was only 1 more day to wait!

I LOVE NO S

My s day yesterday was much better than last weekend, I stuck to my 3 meals but had a treat with dinner- I am from the uk and call luch dinner :) (rocky road)
And had a caramel latte at Starbucks. I had planned on having a proper dessert after tea but my taste for it just wasn't there, a very very weird feeling!

Looking forward to having a little treat today too

I've also decided that I am not going to weigh myself, was going to weigh in at end of august after 3 and half weeks with No s. I have decided that like so many people I am going to focus on the habits and not the number on the scale. I may weigh myself in several months time but that will be more for reference than anything, the fact that I feel SO much better after 2.5 weeks is amazing in itself and can only get better!

So here's to no weigh ins!!
Let the looseness of the clothes do the talking!

Yesterday went well, had a macdonalds for my tea, the new Mediterranean chicken burger and chips (fries)
was delicious! but probably won't have it for my tea again as I was hungry again by 7.30pm!

Normally I would have snacked but that can't happen anymore, so I had a glass of milk and that was that!

Best bit was, I didn't feel guilty for eating the macdonalds or that I had undone good work, it was my meal for that evening, I just won't make a habit of it :)

Well done clarebear. So good to see your resolve paying off. It's great when you can really enjoy your food and not tip over into excess. Giving up the scales is scary but it will be a big step forward I feel. Keep going :)

Felt a bit crap when I woke up this morning, I ate too much tea last night (even though it was one plate) I ate until I was bursting. Feel bloated this morning . . . But . . . Then I remembered I'm
In the 21 day club so that cheered me up a lot!!
Just going to think forward now and learn from my eating yesterday
Have to say I'm relieved its Monday!

They say it takes 21 days to form a habit, now I've been at this just over 21 days I can confirm that :-D

I don't even really think about it now. I was thinking on my way home from work at 5.30 last night - I haven't eaten since 12pm but it's fine, I'm ready for my tea! Beforehand I would have eaten at 12 then snacked until I finished work, I'm saving so many calories!

I am really enjoying my meals and eating the things i like.
Still need to work on my S days and I need to stop when I'm full on S Days!

Apart from that everything is going good! Really looking forward to seeing real results but I know this will take some time!

haha its so annoying!!

Yesterday went ok apart from getting a snack head on, didn't give in though!
I found myself checking calories for the first time yesterday on my dinner that i was buying from tesco, it was a tuna and pasta salad. (they use mayo which bumps up the calories)
It was such a good feeling to snap myself out of it and tell myself, it fits on your plate with room to spare, you can have it!!

Thank you tessy :)

I had a great day yesterday!
Didnt snack inbetween meals. I had my normal breakfast (boiled eggs and toast) then I met with friends and had a pub dinner, pulled pork burger and chips, I then enjoyed a brownie with ice cream which was delicious!
I then wasn't hungry for another meal! I had some crisps later on as I had a savoury tooth but I wouldn't say I was actually hungry, it's like my body didnt allow me to binge yesterday which was a great feeling!
I would say my best S day yet, 1 month in
My tummy feels flatter and my muffin top doesn't feel like its sticking out as much, I'm still never weighing myself though, this feeling is too good to spoil it with what could be a smaller loss than I have in my mind

exactly! my goal is to lose some weight but also to learn to be happy how I am along the way. I've always felt that no matter how much weight I lose I still don't like what I see, so it is fixing this that is more important for me! and No S is helping me to do this, I feel so much better already.

Yesterday was more 'snacky' than saturday, but that's ok, back to N Days today!

it's something that seems to have been introduced recently to uk swimming pools - there maybe something similar in the US.

It's basically goals and tasks to do in the pool rather than swimming loads of lengths and getting bored - the instructor gives you certain styles to do and some lengths you just have to use arms and sometimes just legs etc, it's really good fun and makes a nice change from the usual fitness classes I do, they also give you tips on how to improve your swimming etc

http://www.swimming.org/swimfit/

you can find info here, they may not have the classes in the US but you can get the class structure that instructors use on here and have a go yourself if you'd like

Yesterday was better and now its only 1 day until s day!!
Was thinking too, I've been doing this over a month now, only got to repeat that for 11 times and a year will have passed!
Not wishing my life away but in looking forward to seeing what a year on no s feels like :)

Thanks tessy :)

Good weekend but need to read this post next weekend, I've just had a crisp fest and 4 choc biscuits, I have given myself an awful tummy ache :(
Don't feel down about it though, it's Monday tomo so N DAY woohoo. In the grand scheme of things it's only my fifth weekend on no s so I'm still learning. Just need to remember how I feel right now!
My stomach has obviously shrunk and can't take the binges anymore so that's a positive!

update on last night, I was so ill! I felt so sick.

I'm really going to have to put structure into my S Days. don't really want to make mods but I think I'm not going to snack on S days (know i've said that before) and just have 1 thing on each of the days that I really want ie a really nice dessert or a chocolate bar or a big bag of crisps. Definitely not all 3 like I did yesterday! EUGH!!

Hopefully lesson learned!!

I had one of THOSE S days yesterday too. I can feel it today for sure.... But that's the beauty of this program. Excess becomes really obvious. It makes another week of N days actually enjoyable!!

very true!

good day today, although I had a wobble when trying on some clothes in a shop. It didn't make me want to stop or anything like that, No S is the way for me for life now. in fact it made me more determined, I think I may have to step up the exercise a little, but trouble is, I don't want that to become obsessive again! It's a fine line!
I am going to Australia in 12 weeks and that is why I am worrying as I want to feel content and happy with my size. I think I am going to have to just continue with how I am, (hopefully my S days will calm a little now this is my 6th week - definitely don't want to feel like I did on Sunday) and whatever I am on 13th December when I step on the plane is what I will be!! - my head will hopefully be in an even better place by then anyway
So far so good

:)

You are doing brilliantly and you will love Australa. I have been twice each time lost weight and felt great. Your habits are getting hard wired. Come Xmas you will be a very different clarebear  I am really impressed by your progress particularly your determination.

looking forward to weekend today, not because I can eat whatever but more because I want to have some calmer 2 S days behind me! My aim is to be calm on Saturday and eat same as N days but allow myself a standard bar of chocolate or a pudding after my tea. Then Sunday I will do as I wish, in theory after how I felt last Sunday evening it should be tamer :-S

Hunger at work isn't even an issue now, it just fades into the background of my thoughts! I feel very hungry around 5pm but I finish work then so I have the drive home to distract me then it's tea time followed by a glass of milk at around 8pm!

I never thought I'd be able to go from 12 until 5 without a snack!

12 weeks exactly until OZ, can't wait to see how I will feel after 12 more weeks on NO s!

You are doing SO great clarebear!! Isn't the peace of mind so wonderful??

I think it's great to have one controlled S day & one free for all. That worked well for me 2 weekends ago. I think I'm just planning my S days the day before depending upon how I feel. Sometimes I really want a little structure but other days I know I just have to have a day free of rules.

Sounds like we're still working out those S days but I'm sure they'll fall into a nice pattern overtime.

I'm sure you're be lighter come December but try not to stress about it. Remember this is about endurance not speed. You will get there in time. Meanwhile enjoy the process!!

I have always had to finish what is on my plate but last night I noticed something, I consciously stopped eating when I was full!! I was so hungry as I had just been to the gym, I had chicken, chips and vegetables, when i first starting eating I thought I would have cleared my plate but I ended up leaving some!
Was a great feeling, I didn't even have to think about it, I just stopped!
Learning something new every day and loving this feeling

Have I mentioned that I LOVE Nos?

Wow clarebear you are so getting in the habit, nearly 2 months green, you should be very proud of yourself. Have fun this weekend with the bridesmaids dresses.
I love no/ S too although it does not always love me!! I really think you will have lost some weight when you do weigh yourself. But whatever you have lost you have clearly gained so much in confidence, control and in balance in your life :) :)

Thanks Tessy, I have decided not to weigh myself until at least after the wedding, it is 7 months away but I feel so good right now I don't need anything to stop me feeling this way! Plus in 7 months time it won't be far until I will have done a year on NO S and that would be a good point to weigh I think :) Thank you for your support!

Kat, I will, thank you :) Part of me wants the 7 months to be over so the wedding will be here but the other part of me is savoring the planning and excitement and you have just reminded me to do that and not rush the time away! :)

Good s days :)
At the beginning I was eating everything id craved during the week on top of meals, now I'm having nice things but my feeling full comes sooner so I can no longer seem to do both!
I had breakfast on Saturday, then for coffee and a muffin with my friend at about 11. Normally id have gone home and eaten my dinner at 12 because that's 'dinnertime' but I didn't eat until around 15.30 when I felt hungry
I'm really enjoying the different stages of this journey :-D

the main thing I am enjoying about NO S is not thinking about food!
also being able to enjoy for tea what my husband to be is having without having to make modifications etc. I never wanted to be one of those wives that is always on a diet. And when we have kids I don't want them to have a mum who is always on a diet!

Can't believe I've been doing this almost 2 months!!

I love your posts, Clarebear! They always cheer me up! I was just thinking last night how much I loved being able to have a banana or some potatoes occasionally -- things I hadn't eaten for years on low carb.

haha thank you! I am very full of joy!

Just had a sausage butty, there would have been a time when i craved one, had one and then felt guilty about it.

Now, I have one, really enjoy it then don't think about food until 12pm!!

Before I started No S I was really worried I was going to be in this trap forever-I struggled with an eating disorder a few years ago and I never wanted that to be a part of who I am.

I can safely say I am becoming healed!

It's amazing how much this does for our emotional well-being. You are going to be such a great role model for your children one day. Maybe the next generation of kids will be able to have a healthy relationship with food. How great!

My S days were ok, didn't go overboard on saturday as I had a bad cold so couldn't taste so just ate enough so I didn't feel hungry
Yesterday was full of treats but thats what S days are made for! and I was making up for my grumpiness of not being able to taste on saturday!
back to it today :)

Hello

I might have 2 months of green under my belt but thought it was important to post today as I am having a shaky day!!

Started last night really, I remained green but husband to be was eating some dairy milk and I had a really bad craving!! I had some warm milk and got over it!

This morning I have enjoyed my breakfast (peanut butter on a cinnamon bagel) at 8am and now I am starving!! (10:20) - I know I'm not but my brain is telling me I am!
I have all sorts of foods running through my mind and I just want to eat!!

So, I just wanted to say that although I have all green I still get bad days and by no means find this easy sometimes. Posting here helps me be accountable and I have no intentions of going red today but MAN it's gonna be a hard day!!!

I hear you Clarebear!!! Can you make sure that your lunch is PARTICULARLY yummy and satisfying and decent portion-size wise?

I know that on tough days, there is usually something going on for me emotionally which I want to soothe with food. Can you take 5 minutes out to take some deep breaths and tune into your feelings and intuition? It's amazing to me that when I recognise what the niggle is that is making me want to eat or feel especially hungry (provided of course that I am actually eating enough food for my body) then it works like magic to ease the craving.

You're an inspiration! You can do it!

Thanks Kookie!

I am going to try and make sure it is a yummy lunch!!

There's nothing emotional or anything, I think it's because I had a cold at weekend and am still recovering, feeling a bit headachy. I however don't feel 'ill' enough to take a sick day and think this would make me spiral! So am just going to power through!

So like you say I will eat a yummy lunch and hopefully I'll feel better this afternoon!

Oh my goodness, sickness will do it!!! I had a cold all last week and like you, it wasn't bad enough to take the day off but I just felt bleurgh! I'm really learning that when I'm under the weather, I tend to lose my joy and everything just seems a bit bleak. That makes food a lot more inviting!

Go gently through the day and get lots of rest. I didn't rest enough (didnt' think just a simple cold warranted too much rest) and as a result I did end up having to take Monday off because I got run down. Feeling so much better now physically and consequently emotionally too.

Big hug!

The fact that you are recognizing what's going on and coming here to journal it is awesome!! You are learning so much about yourself on this journey! You're killing it! Btw is dairy milk like a chocolate bar or hot chocolate?
