phxhocking check in
Today was just a weird day. First I found out that a friend of mine passed away yesterday. Then I had a doctor's appointment that required that I not eat beforehand because I needed to get lab work done. Turns out the lab work didn't happen until 2:00 in the afternoon. Then I had a meeting tonight, so ate dinner at 5:30. Here it is, almost 10:00 and I'm starving. Since I've only eaten twice today, I figure, THIS is dinner. A small bowl of cream of wheat. I think it still counts as a successful day. And tomorrow my community is having a Thanksgiving dinner for the residents at 4:00 in the afternoon. Oy vey...
You did very well, considering the stresses and disruptions, phx. If you just hit the reply button at the bottom of this post for your responses, you'll be able to have all your entries in one long thread, like a diary. Makes it easier for people to converse with you and also easier for you to look back on all your successes! Good luck with your Thanksgiving tomorrow

I think I'm going to have to count this as an "S" day. My community is having a Thanksgiving dinner today, so you know I'm gonna have a piece of pie. Also, I cooked a turkey breast, and I did nibble on some of that while I was slicing and dicing. So, might as well call it an "S" day. The holidays are gonna be a killer. OTOH, I have no plans for Thanksgiving day itself, so this may be the only one I get. Just count T-day as a normal day I guess.

One week, lost 4 pounds
Well, I've been on the No S Diet for 1 week and I've lost 4 pounds. I'm pretty happy with that. I counted Friday as an S day, because we had our community T-day meal then, but I counted yesterday as a Normal day. I've also come down with a cold, (wouldn't ya know), so am missing church today. Unfortunately, that also means I'll be missing the memorial open house for my friend that passed away. Looks like another day of curling up with a good book, and maybe crack open the 2nd season of Touched By An Angel before I have to take it back to the library.

Sounds like NoS is suiting you well, and you are right off the bat experiencing NoS with some tough life challenges, too.....

I know! I am fortunate indeed. I live in a senior apartment complex and we have: oranges, apples, tangerines, grapefruit, avocadoes, figs, pomegranates, peaches, and I think there's even a cherry tree. All free for the picking. Of course, some folks try and pick more than their fair share, and that's annoying, but for the most part I think most people are pretty honest.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Today is Thanksgiving, so it's an "s" day. Even so, I've done so well, I don't want to overdo it. I've still got this lousy cold, so won't be going to anyone's house. The family has babies, one is only about two weeks old, so I'm not taking the chance of getting them infected. And then there was the passing of the friends I was going to have Thanksgiving with. So, it looks like I'm on my own. This morning I splurged and made myself a pancake, but I used non-fat milk and used the Walden Farms zero-calorie syrup. It was about a 4 inch pancake, and I'm plenty full enough. I'm still scarfing on the tangerines, trying to get as much Vitamin C in me as I can. About 3 a day. I have a pumpkin pie in the oven, and plan on half a Rock Cornish Game Hen for dinner, with some veggies and piece of pie. Not really planning to snack. Of course, if my neighbors invite me over, I might just go. In any case, it will be a quiet day for me. And I think the dog show is on tv, one of my favorites. And...is there a Twilite Zone marathon on? That used to be a Thanksgiving Day staple for those who weren't into sports. Anyway, have a happy thanksgiving everyone!
Hey, phx, I am on my own, too -- not because of a loss like yours, but because of snow. I got the car about half dug out in the equivalent of five shovel glove sessions and then thought, enough, tomorrow is another day . . . however, I had turkey, stuffing, and cranberries for lunch, took a turkey-coma nap, and am now looking for a netflix movie! Sometimes the best plans get disrupted and we have to make our own comforts. Best wishes for the day and enjoy those tangerines!

Well, Thanksgiving is almost over. I don't think I overdid it too badly. I had a pancake for breakfast and another for lunch. Then my neighbor brought me over a plate of turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green bean casserole and a piece of pie. I divided the plate into two servings (except the pie, which I had at lunch.) I had one of the halves for dinner and another piece of pie. All in all, not too bad for Thanksgiving. Tomorrow is a normal day, and I'll probably treat Saturday as a normal day as well, since Sunday is my birthday and I know I'm going out for dinner. Red Robin.
Sounds like a nice Thanksgiving after all, phx -- delicious and quite moderate!
Yes, I live in rural northwestern Pennsylvania. This is not typical weather here -- this past week, we got more than half the total amount of snow for all of last year!

Today is an S day. I had originally planned to stay home, but my across-the-way neighbor has guests, including little children, which means staying home and reading has lost a bit of its appeal. I had planned to just save my sweet for tonight after dinner. I do have pumpkin pie left, after all. But I might just pop myself over to Starbucks and get a gutless wonder. That's not what they call it, of course, but I can get a non-fat, sugar-free hazelnut latte, and if that ain't a gutless wonder, i don't know what is. I kind of wanted some peace and quiet today. Guess that's not going to happen. My birthday tomorrow. The mighty 65! Going out to lunch with my sister and niece at Red Robin. I get a free hamburger on my birthday, and free is always good. I'll probably eat just half of the burger and take the rest home. That's what I usually do. So....oh yeah....the little munchkin outside is just making more noise than I want to deal with right now, so I'm off to Starbucks.

Gosh, I see I haven't posted in a few days. Sorry about that! I've pretty much remained on track. I went a little overboard on Sunday because it was my birthday, but for the most part, I find this tremendously easy. Also, I've had a cold that I'm just now getting over. A friend of mine is taking me out tomorrow for a birthday lunch because she couldn't join us for the lunch at Red Robin for my birthday. So far, I've been on the plan for a couple of weeks and it's starting to become habit. I like this a lot! I'm losing slowly, slowly, but that's okay. I want something I can do for the rest of my life without having to count points or calories or carbs or all that nonsense.

A friend took me out for a belated birthday lunch today and I did pretty well. ordered a bbq chicken sandwich. I ate half the sandwich and the filling from the other half and left the other bread. Had some french fries, but gave the rest to a tablemate. So, all in all, done well. Going to have a bite of dinner before I head out for my writer's group tonight.

An "S" day. I've been looking forward to this all week. And this morning I got a "twofer" in my email. Buy one Starbucks breakfast sandwich and get another free. So I hied myself to Starbucks, bought the two sandwiches and a small latte. Had the latte and one of the sandwiches and will save the other for lunch. No need to go overboard on an S day after all. This is actually quite good for me. Once upon a time I would have gotten the Grande latte and eaten both sandwiches at once. Progress, not perfection. Amen, amen.

I also live in a senior complex and we have....nothing! All that fruit available for picking sounds wonderful!phxhocking wrote:I know! I am fortunate indeed. I'll also be 65 on my birthday in January.
