My Diet is Better Than Yours
Last night on ABC: My Diet is Better Than Yours.
If I am not mistaken on the format, the diet/exercise trainers get sent home, not the dieters.
The first thing I thought when viewing it? No S needs to be represented.

No, it really doesn't. It won't get fast results, so won't be dramatic and cool.
This Hunger Games nonsense should go away, anyway. "Reality TV" is eroding our intelligent judgement.

I agree that No S shouldn't be there. Speed and drama are not its selling points. For the few minutes I watched it, the non-diet approach got trounced because the dieter, a guy who probably would have lost 10 lbs in a week on the Biggest Loser, lost only 1 pound. But we have no idea what his results would be in 6 months or a year of practice and support. (support may be just a reasonable record-keeping strategy.)
I have to admit that I looked recently at the US News and World Report rating of 38 diets. But the irony, if people care to face it, is that they are looking at what is basically a bunch of what will be failed strategies. The best of the failures to actually change people's long term habits!
I propose that they take contestants to LIVE in slim cultures for a period of time. Of course, it would still be a challenge to come back and keep the new lifestyle, given that it's rather established that immigrants from such places often gain when they move here. But ANYONE who resolves to eat moderately permanently here is basically having to create her/his own culture in the land of SAD.

To a point, I am going to disagree. Although No S is not "sexy" (although is it an less sexy than the Wild (?) Diet and The Mommy Workout Plan (?) that were on the show?), I think a person could certainly lose more than a pound a week.

Sure, that could happen, but the problem is that it's so much less predictable. That's okay, in my book. No S to me is much more about achieving moderation by dealing with appetite from the inside out. That doesn't necessarily come in a linear way. Even when traditional dieters steel themselves to adhere to calorie limits and measured exercise, the body can vary water retention for other reasons. Then people start manipulating that. Possible? Yes. Livable for most? No. Pleasurable? Not with truth serum. Putting No S up against what will be short-term shenanigans for the few just doesn't seem fair to anyone!
I guess I'm of this school of thought these days:

Well, yeah, it's the other stuff that makes the lettuce worthwhile, right?!oolala53 wrote:Full disclosure: I eat a lot of lettuces, by choice. Just with other stuff!
I get hungry for a good salad sometimes, or go on salad-streaks and want a lot of them...and then I get tired of them and don't want one for awhile. But HAVING to eat one whether I wanted to or not would irritate me!
