"funny stuff"

Post by Betty » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:05 am

I followed No S to the letter for 2 weeks, but this third week little cracks have been showing up in my resolve. (I won't bore you with the details, but things here are a wee bit stressy, weather has been rainy for weeks, houseguests visiting, the usual suspects)

Anyway, one night hubby brought out the chocolate after a nice meal and I had some. Just a little, but y'know. Then there's the juice: our houseguests like to snack and try out new places, so we've gone to a lot of restaurants and coffee bars mid day. I get a latte or a juice just to be social, but I know that the drinks are adding up.

So what I need are tips on how to straighten out, slap your own wrist, get back on track.

Thanks,

Betty

Enthusiasm and initial resolve carries you easily through the first couple of weeks, but then real life starts to catch up and the novelty wears off and you find yourself slipping back into bad habits. We've all had this experience. Sometimes over and over again! Not to worry...just strengthen your resolve once again and get back on the program.

We like to go to coffee places, too, but I limit myself to ice tea or coffee this time of year, with nothing added. It's a nice treat to have a good quality tea or coffee freshly brewed, since I usually just have teabags when I'm at home. So it's special, and I don't feel deprived.

Sometimes when people tempt me with goodies, I just smile and explain the no-s diet to them. It doesn't take long, because it's only 14 words, but then they usually leave me alone after that.

My own experience is that if you can be very firm with yourself now about the sugar, you are really going to lose much of your sweet tooth and the chocolate and other sweets will not be so appealing.

Make sure you are eating big meals so you aren't so interested in snacking. When you go out with people, get coffee or tea, or maybe a club soda with lime.

Stick with it; you are doing something good for yourself!
