superhero's daily check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

superhero's daily check-in

Post by superhero » Sat Feb 16, 2008 7:02 am

I was on the No S Diet for a couple of months last year before COMPLETELY falling off the wagon for reasons I don't really care to remember, so I'm making another go at it, starting earlier this week. As an addition, I just went to the dentist for the first time in a decade yesterday, and though I'd developed no cavities, my complete lack of dedicated flossing has caused some other problems.

So, in addition to the No S Diet, I'm incorporating daily flossing into my routine as well (and will also be tracking that here), and flossing doesn't get S-days off!

My daily breakfasts during the week will almost all be identical, as my office lays out a continental breakfast buffet for employees every morning, and I usually have the same thing... fill up a plate, take it to my desk.

Because I'm a huge nerd, funny pictures will be included with each post.

Even though it's well after midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning, i haven't gone to bed yet and am about to go floss for Sunday. I'll call this day a SUCCESS as well.

Wow, busy week spun out of control. Couple of nights working at the office until 1am. Stupid deadlines.

Anyways...

Have pretty much forgotten exactly what I've eaten at meals this week, but Wednesday and Thursday were SUCCESSES, Friday was EPIC FAIL because I found myself unable to say no to the chocolates that were being passed around the office Friday afternoon.

Saturday/Sunday = S-Days, so EXEMPT.

Flossing: have flossed every day this week. SUCCESS!
