Nita's check-in Is anyone losing weight?

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Nita's check-in Is anyone losing weight?

Post by nitaholbert » Mon Apr 21, 2008 6:39 am

I did not have any results the second week in fact I have gained a pound. I know you are not supposed to weigh-in but I feel like I am eating too much. I have managed to chang a couple of bad habits; the biggest one is snacking. I don't snack anymore in between meals and I havent' been eating any sugar at all. Hurray! Next week (week number 3) I am going to concentrate on eating a smaller meal at dinner. My dinners last week were too large and I am not used to eating that much. If I can manage to eat three moderate meals with no snacking and no sugar I will have accomplished a lot in three weeks. Then I will concentrate on more excercize.

So far it doesn't feel like a diet just better organized eating and more control!

I could have written your post. My biggest thrill was this morning when I was down 3 pounds from last Monday-but that equates to only 1/2 pound over all.

I think we are all young in the area of experiencing freedom to eat without counting portions or choices or points or forbidden foods, etc. (except for the sugar thing). I've been led to the same point as you. This week, now that I know in my head that I won't starve between meals, I'll not feel so driven to load my plates. If I get panicky, I can always fill my plate, eat 1/2 and then reevaluate.

I've allowed others to tell me what to eat for so long that I've forgotten how to tell myself.

Freedom is the most delicious thing!

With you on the praying thing.
