Moxie's check-in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Day 1: Success

B: coffee & 1/2

L: Salad with cheese, garbanzos & bc dressing

D: 3 pieces Ezekial with almond butter

I'm relatively sure I can't do this. I already feel like such a failure, having to start over so many times. I have already gained back about 5 pounds that I lost. My life is a total wreck and, although I know it isn't helping, food is taking a large part in my self-comforting. I've been out of work for 6 weeks, getting back in serious debt which I've tried so painstakingly to get out of, one of my cats is very ill (I've been putting off taking her to the vet bc I was hoping to get a job first- but that hasn't happened, now I'm going to have to still take her in and know it will be a fortune), I'm getting a lot of rejections from my book submissions, Im exhausted and am seeing no light at the end of the tunnel. Everyone keeps telling me things may change in an instant and while that may be true- here in Manhattan (and I know everywhere) it is not a good time to be out of work. I am very, very depressed. And of course my 20 year high school reunion is next month and I'm devastated to be single, unemployed & overweight. I thought I would be at a different place in my life at this point.

Anyway, so I may drop out of NoS. I may not be able to stick with 3 meals a day. I don't know. Ok, that's enough venting for now. :)

Moxie,

sounds like things are difficult right now, don't have any "cheery" words, just whatever you decide hopefully you will have gotten something out of your time here. and if you decide to hang around will be very nice to have you. life can be very difficult sometimes. i am fortunate that i have a lot of my really difficult times behind me, that being said, I am very aware that life can turn on a dime, either way, good or bad, so we all just do our best to adapt.

as far as your cat that must be really painful. I hope whatever ails it, it will be ok. btw I am happily married, weigh less than in high school, and have the opportunity right now to be doing work I love, and I am just not really into high school reunions :D not going is always an option, you may want to think about if its something you are doing for yourself,

take care,

Yeah, on further thought, I have decided to take a little break. I'm just using NoS as another way to beat myself up at this point. I need to just step back for awhile, get some other things in order. Thank you to everyone on this board who's been such a help. One thing for sure I've learned is that I will not go on another "diet!" :D

Best to all!

Moxie
