Happy Camper Check In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

Happy Camper Check In

Post by Happy Camper » Sat May 16, 2009 4:20 pm

I am starting my daily check in. I am looking forward to getting into the habit. I have been a part of no s since end of march and I just love the whole concept. this is my first time ever posting and it is very exciting well sort of. I have been doing well but just came off a couple of red days and I really like the idea of keeping track so I can see all the greens and get past the reds.

Welcome to No S!

Post by la_loser » Sat May 16, 2009 4:46 pm

So here's an official welcome since you're just now "joining." This is such a sensible, sustainable and safe way to live. And a supportive spot to be! (How's that for a bunch of good S's!?)

Don't stress about a couple of red days. . . as I guess you've been reading these posts for a while, you know that you just have to dust yourself off and keep plugging away. And don't decide to make this weekend No S days to "make up" for your two reds. . . it just doesn't work like that. Enjoy the weekend and climb back on the wagon on Monday!
LA Loser. . . well on my way to becoming an LA Winner.

Welcome! The more you do it, the easier it gets.
I guess this doesn't work unless you actually do it.
Please pray for me

Hey, it's nice to see such enthusiasm.

Yeah, I like using the HabitCal too, it helps me to get a better picture, what's been goin' on ... especially since most of it is quite positive.

When you have a red day, try to work harder in the next 2-3 days, then it's like water under the bridge. Even Steven. You just try not to have too many reds, especially 2 red days in a row ... to avoid having to start over and over, pretty soon seeing your progress will motivate you to keep goin' ...

Cheers !

Marc ;-)

Thanks StrawberryRoan for the kind words.

I had a great s day yesterday enjoyed 1 yummy treat and enjoyed my three yummy meals.

I want to look and feel my best ,I am at my heaviest weight right know and that is changing clothes feel looser and I do think that changing my habits are helping. I tell people about no s but I want to show the proof that eating this way does work. It just makes so much sense. I know in my heart that this is a sane way to go. I found the no s book at the book store while researching the next diet I was going to start and my search was over when I read the cover. I tell people all the time about the plan and the just stare blankely at me so that is why I want to show by example that this way of eating is the only way to go to enjoy food and life and lose weight.

I tried to convince a friend of mine to try no S instead of going on Weight Watchers again. She chose WW and went off track almost immediately. I want to be a noS example too, particularly because some people (especially my sisters) have seen me go on so many diets, some of which I've been as enthusiastic about as noS, only to eventually go off and gain everything back.

With the weight loss being slow, it's less likely that people will notice a weight loss if they see you often, so it's harder to be an example!

you are so right quadopt1997 I totally get what your sayin about the slow weight loss and I am ready to take my time and to prove that it works. I so want to prove that it is a slow and steady progress and that it does not happen overnight I want to prove that eventually if you stick with it it will happen and you will reach your goals in a personally sane manner. I like to think of it as having my cake and eating too. only on s days and just one piece  anyway I still want to be an example no matter how long it takes.
