NJfitmama's daily check in

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

NJfitmama's daily check in

Post by NJfitmama » Mon Oct 26, 2009 7:35 pm

I've decided that I want to start my own daily check-in thread. I'm currently 5 months pregnant, so I'm not trying to lose weight, but I'm really trying to not gain 65 pounds like I did with my daughter. I'm currently up 20 pounds, which isn't that great, but it's not as bad as before. I was doing no-s before I got pregnant, but then the first trimester was really hard for me to not snack all day to help with the nausea. Now, I'm feeling better, but I like fattening things and chocolate chip cookies!

Since yesterday was an S day, I'm going to start posting tonight what I ate for the day. Goal is to gain below 40 pounds this pregnancy and to stay active. I am currently working out 4 days/wee for about 45 minutes on the elliptical. With my daughter, I didn't work out at all and I had a 25 hour labor experience. Hoping for a better experience this time.

Exercise: 45 minutes on elliptical

FOOD:
Breakfast: Quaker lower sugar maple oatmeal w/2% milk; medium coffee w/cream & sugar

Lunch: side Caesar salad and one potato skin w/sour cream

Dinner: glass of juice & turkey and cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread

Accomplishment of the day: I was craving chocolate after dinner, so I brushed my teeth and am staying in my bedroom for the rest of the night.
