Emotional Eating and Indigestion

Post by Grammy G » Wed Nov 25, 2009 1:49 pm

Like many of you, I have kept a journal (not always daily) and I find that rereading what I wrote years ago often brings me great insight into my actions at the time. Years ago, when felt I was stuck in a bad, bad marriage, i wrote this little ditty which i just reread and thought I should post. I'm sure others will know the feeling!

INDIGESTION
Swallow the anger,
swallow the pride,
Swallow the cookies with icing inside.

Swallow the heartache,
Swallow the fear,
Swallow the panic,
Wash it down with a beer.

Swallow the sorrow,
Swallow the pain,
Get up in the morning and do it again.

Please know I am in a much better place in my life right and I know that to be the person i am now I had to experience all my life offered, good and bad. it still makes me sad to read that poem...and I can't believe I felt so helpless and depended on food to solve my issues! I've come a long way and yet, have a long way to go!!

Been there, done that. Thankfully, I'm starting to get out of it and am learning new eating habits with No S.

Your poem says it all.

I think when I was there, I didn't even realize I was. It took some years after the fact for me to realize I'd been there.

Great poem - really sums up the way stuffing down emotions with food feels.

I'm glad you're not there anymore... and glad a number of us aren't. :)

To those of you who took the time to post a comment..thank you for validating my feelings! It was hard for me to make that little poem public but, and I didn't realize this at the time, very freeing. .. and now I can let that go (finally!!) and move on!
i will be lurking for the next few days as I get ready to make the trip to Florida for the winter but will be off site until spring.
I have never seen a more supportinve group of people and will carry your affirmations with me.
