MK's Daily Check-In

Counting carbs/calories is a drag. Obsessive scale stepping is a recipe for despair. If you want to count something, "days on habit" is a much better metric. Checking off days on a calendar would do just fine, but if you do it here you get accountability and support. Here's how. Start a new topic in this forum called (say) "Your Name Daily Check In." Then every N day post a "reply" to that topic as to whether you stayed on habit. A simple "<font color="green">SUCCESS</font>" or "<font color="red">FAILURE</font>" (or your preferred euphemism if that's too harsh) is sufficient, but obviously you're welcome to write more if you want. On S-days just register that you're taking an S-day. You don't have to do this forever, just until you're confident you've built the habit. Feel free to check in weekly or monthly or sporadically instead of daily. Feel free also to track other habits besides No-s (I'm keeping this forum under No-s because that's what the vast majority are using it for). See also my <a href="/habitcal/">HabitCal</a> tool for another more formal (and perhaps complementary) way to track habits.

MK's Daily Check-In

Post by Marym » Sat Jul 03, 2010 9:47 pm

After a long hiatus I am back! I've been going back and forth in my mind about how to lose weight. The last time I wrote on here it was in December. It's now July 3rd and I am very motivated, having been doing NO S all week (since 6/26 - started at 165.5 pounds and I am 5 feet and 1/4 inches tall) with only one day of getting off track (yesterday I became too hungry and ate about 40 pistachios while cooking dinner! WHat is really motivating me now is not going to WW. I hate it! It is so time consuming and wrong-minded. Today is an S day but hasn't seemed like it yet, haven't felt like eating anything but healthy foods. We're going out to dinner at a brazilian restaurant and I plan to have dessert!

Exercise-wise I took a terrific pilates class this morning and then rode the recumbent bike for 20 minutes, walked the dog for at least 10. So an hour of exercise.

No writing - ugh!

I'm wondering if July 5th counts as an S day since it is a legal holiday? I'm counting it as a NO S day unless I find otherwise..

MK's Daily Check-In

Post by Marym » Fri Jul 09, 2010 5:04 pm

Have not been doing the daily checkin and I think that's a mistake. I need the accountability. Last weekend threw me off. It basically continued all week as if every day was an S day! I got into holiday mode with the 4th and then we had a heat wave and I had no energy and then my father spent the day with us and brought over a homemade cherry pie and a homemade chocolate pie. I felt weird saying - can I put my piece in the freezer for the weekend? So now I am up in weight again. I also drank more alcohol than I would like. My doctor has recommended that I only drink alcohol socially and I am seriously considering doing it. It just seems to have a greater effect now that I am 46 yrs old, besides, my husband doesn't drink and neither does the dog! I also just got too hungry between meals and started snacking, eating samples at the gourmet deli, pistachios while I am cooking. My aunt brought over the largest bag of pistachios I have ever seen and now I know why she brought it over! So, that being said, all week, no green days, barely any exercise, no writing. It's depressing. I may also not be drinking enough water. I think doing this post will help me stay on track with many things. adieu!

MK's Daily Check-In

Post by Marym » Thu Jul 15, 2010 3:22 pm

Thursday, July 15th- This week has been going well. Had successful N days on Monday and Wednesday. Today I weighed in at 163 (a 2.5 pound loss)! I am determined to get below 160 as soon as I can. I need to do the daily check in. For yesterday:

fruit salad with whole milk yogurt and granola
iced coffee with whole milk

(I like eating/drinking whole milk since it fills me up more as suggested in the NO S book)

turkey and cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread with lettuce, blue corn low salt tortilla chips and pickles

scalloped potatoes and seafood stuffed eggplant, green salad, 2 glasses of red wine with sparkling water

no exercise really (had massage instead)

no writing

Did feel discouraged about NO S today, started thinking about going back to WW. NOOOOOOOOOO! So weighing in lower today helped. I really, really need to do the exercise thing, making it a priority. Same with the writing. I also would like to measure the amount of wine to make sure each glass is the standard 5 oz and not go over. I'd really like to not have more than 1 glass a day since that is the recommendation for women and also to only have it with my meal, when I'm sitting down at the table. It contributes to the overall "meal focused" concept of NO S. I just saw a video on Ayervedic eating the other night, done by Deeprak Chopras's Ayeverdic guy and he said that we should not snack, try to eat more in line with the seasons. I'm focusing on having half my plate be either fruit or vegetables. Will check in again at the end of today. Adieu!
