Are the new low-cal Frappuccinos an S?

Post by moderatemeals » Tue Jul 20, 2010 12:21 am

Hi -
Just wanted some advice on the new lo-cal Frappuccinos from Starbucks. I used to consider them an S but now they have a low cal coffee version that is about 80 calories (not that calories matter at all -- just using it because I wonder if this falls in the diet beverage category). I used to get the regular coffee Frappuccinos on weekends only but of course now I am tempted to get the low-cal version during the week. I don't drink the mocha or caramel flavored ones, just the coffee. Just curious what category everyone else would put this in....snack/sweet or just like a coffee/diet beverage? I am trying to do vanilla no s for 21 days which is why I am asking.

Thanks!
Lisa

Is this what you're talking about? It's an S -- almost all of the calories are from sugar.

Yes and thank you for the answer. I didn't think to check sugar content!

Yeah, low cal things are often loaded with sugar... the low cal part comes in when they take out some of the fat. Sorry!

My personal guideline is that if it FEELS like a sweet, it is, regardless of how low-cal it is.

But that's because I have focused on "building habit," and don't want to confuse my brain. There's a part of my mind that's just like my 9-year old in terms of wanting to push the limits...."but you let me before! THAT was okay, so why isn't this? Oh, c'mon...puh-leez? Just this once." I just don't want to give it a toehold to argue with me. :) When the answer is just "no, and I mean it," that's the end of it.

For example, I freeze regular yogurt for summer snacks. The yogurt is okay to me UN-frozen, but frozen it's an S. Just too "dessert-y". And yes, I know that's a ridiculous distinction, but if it keeps me on habit, I'll be a little ridiculous.

My rule of thumb: if you have to ask, it's an S.

I know it's beating this to death, but the 16 oz. has about 6 teaspoons of sugar, if that helps put it in perspective.

Thanks! I agree with all these points. I figured it probably wasn't really in the true spirit of No S but I was so hoping I was wrong. Guess I'll save it for the weekend and get the REAL thing!! Thanks for all the posts. I'm on day 2 of vanilla No S and it's taking every ounce of willpower in my body not to raid my pantry right now. 19 more days to go!!

It gets easier--most of the time.
