Due to massive spam, I recently upgraded the bulletin board, and have it configured so that I have to approve all new users. The problem? I got 135 requests in the last few days since the upgrade, and I am sure the vast majority are spambots. Until I figure out a more elegant mechanism for dealing w...

Re: I'm upgrading the bulletin board...
OK, I think that habitcal is working again... Please let me know if you run into difficulties. Note that the login system it uses is now separate from the new bulletin board. What this means for existing users is that you will have to login to each system separately, and if you change you password i...

Re: I'm upgrading the bulletin board...
Yes, so good to hear from you again, Deb! Sorry for furnishing such an annoying pretext, though... I'm struggling with it now, I hope to have a somewhat hacky solution in place soon... basically, I'm going to bring the old bulletin board back up at another url, clear the boards themselves, and use i...

Re: I'm upgrading the bulletin board...
If you have trouble logging in, try clearing your "cookies" for everyday systems. I think cookies set by the old version of the bulletin board may be confusing the new system.

Re: SPAM hit list
Hi all, As you probably noticed, I finally upgraded the bulletin board software, and this should make it a lot easier to stay on top of the spam (and even deputize some of you to help me!). Thank you all for your continued vigilance and patience while I figure this out over the next few days. Reinhard

Re: I'm upgrading the bulletin board...
Well, we're running the new version. I see a lot of little things need tweaking (and as anticipated the habitcal is broken), but I think it basically works, and it seems to have much better anti-spam features, though I need to spend some time figuring them out and tuning them. Expect some chaos over...

I'm upgrading the bulletin board...
The spam is too much. I can't deal with it. I'm sorry but that likely means the bulletin board will be down for significant stretches this weekend, and there may be lingering issues into next week. Thanks in advance for your patience!

The No S Diet = The Yes Meals Diet. I love how jenji put her finger on the positive heart of "No" S in her one-year testimonial: If the heart of this plan is meals, try to give yourself a nice meal. I also love how she lost 17 pounds despite a long list of typical diet dealbreakers (stressful job, p...

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for the link! One great thing about the mindshare IF is getting is that it's (finally) making people see the obvious lunacy of permasnacking (as you point out, snacking on any scale wasn't even *possible* before refrigeration, microwave ovens, hi-tech convenience food). You know, moderation might be the way to go... thanks for suggesting/volunteering, Soprono! Shall we try it as an experiment? I think we'll need a few moderators to make sure there isn't too much delay. Any one else interested? (I'll put a top level post about this to the main group as well) Reinhard

I now (many years into it!) really like google sheets. It's free, hugely flexible, and works well on mobile devices. "Conditional formatting" (coloring things automatically based on their values) is the key to turning it into a habit tracking tool. And you can go bananas with summary stats. You can ...

First off, sorry it's taken me forever to pop in here. Secondly, I love your "Zen of Shovelglove" attitude. I tell people in the No S group "Eat moderately, see what happens" rather than fixating on results, and with exercise this kind of detachment is just as helpful. Thirdly, congratulations on wh...

Hi Syfy74, "Glass ceiling" (the 2 drink a day maximum rule) is different from no-s, but compatible with it. Its goal is to limit problem drinking, not reduce calories. If that's not an issue for you, then don't worry about it. But frequently going beyond 2 drinks might be a sign of a problem for man...

Bluebell, congratulations and I'm so sorry I didn't see this till now! I'm delighted, of course, at your quantitative success, but even more so at the new "freedoms" you've enumerated.
